Had some sandpaper brush past me when I was about 13 sitting in a dirty water lineup in Gilgo Beach, NY. The calmest yet most aggressive “Nope” I’ve ever had in surfing.
I touched a shark bodysurfing near the pier, absolutely terrifying. Went back in after 30 minutes then people on the pier yelled there was a shark and i called it a day after that😅
C’mon Jules, that’s the last thing you should do when you’re in the water!! That’s like calling for a meeting with the gray man suit. Growing up is Hawaii we are taught to respect sharks because one of them may be your au’makua. Side note: the movie North Shore came out before my teenage years and was an instant favorite of mine. Funny thing about this movie that I wanted to share with everyone was that Lars, who was one of the main characters in the movie. He played the role/part of a pro surfer who had traveled to Hawaii in order to enter and compete in the pipeline classic. Well to cut to the chase Lars is like the villain in this movie, not so much because of criminal behavior, but more like a big headed/I’m to good for you type of mentality that he carried around with him. Well Lars had done such a good job at playing his role that I ended up growing up and hating him lmfao. I was young then hahaha but I really believed that that’s how Lars was in real life!!! However, being older now and seeing what the real Lars was like….all I can do now is to laugh at myself for being a dummy and thinking what I did through all these years!!!
Orcas are smart though. I imagine they started attacking specifically boats due to a misfortune caused by a boat. There’s never been a recorded wild Orca attack on a human.
@@julienmayer9966 There are records of them attacking boats though. It is only in one area south of the rock of Gibraltar, in that channel that opens the mediterranian to the atlantic. Orcas have been specifically targeting boats there, it's probably the learned behavior of a few specific pods. I wouldn't risk getting in the water with those particular orcas.
They know we’re smart and we know they’re smart. It’s like there’s an unspoken mutual respect. There’s never been a single recorded wild Orca attack on a human.
Hes right I was when I was 10 I was snorkeling off shore in the Florida keys and suddenly got a very frightening feeling like I was being watched and I turned around in the water and there were three 4 foot massive barracuda staring at me. It’s cool humans still have some of those prey animal instincts left from our pre Neolithic Revolution days.
We weren’t prey as hominids pre Neolithic anymore than we are after to certain animals, particularly cats. Those predators likewise still have basic self preservation instincts.
Free Willy 😂 got me laughing 🤣
"that's high level"😂
😐😐😐 wtf subtitle boy
Laird always a great conversation and SERIOUS athlete
“It's not tragic to die doing what you love" -Bohdi, the movie Point Break (1991)
lol Edelman totally trolled him

It's really easy to torture yourself imagining sharks pulling up on you.
"Mork calling Orson, come in Orson"
I was eight when Jaws came out. I've never been in the water past above waist, and that's in a swimming pool. 😅

What pier and beach was it??

Who is Lars?
Another funny thing about that movie? None of the characters are named Lars.
Lar’s is the guy Julian is interviewing. In the movie his name is lance burkhart
Sorry, I misspelled his name. I meant Laird
the point break quote
The Orcas ram boats apparently, so a lil old surf board isn't going to hold up. They can send a 300lbs dolphin 10' in the air when they hit them.
In British Columbia we have whale/orca watching tours. they usually ignore the boats here

There’s no record of an Orca attacking humans in the wild, scary as shit though to see one

Lance Burkhart! Dude pulled Rick's leash.
Spidey senses off the charts
They had a relationship
in La Jolla in SD. there actually is a big seaweed wall that keeps out larger predators like sharks
Laird should be the spokesman for Dos Equis in a real world not the fake guy
Lance Burkhart!!
Where you surf at dawg?
Laird has a friend named bruce
Gtn eating alive honorable 😅
Orcas like ppl. I really hope they still do. Orcas we cool right?

Orcas are just disrespectful
