Now after watching your video I really want to be able to play with your console just once in my life as a die-hard SEGA fan We never had this console here in IRAN . recently I was able to play master system games (new to system in 2023) and wow It's games are beyond amazing . it stand beside Sega Genesis as best game console of all time to me . Thanks for being a SEGA fan
Thanks for your feedback! Experiences from all around the world. You're right, Sega was really amazing, and largely underrated (in the US). Only here in Europe it was equal to Nintendo.
There is this dude who somehow emitted analogue tv-signals at his place just to watch them with the gamegear. m.th-cam.com/video/B1rSwHElCj4/w-d-xo.html&pp=ygUZZ2FtZSBnZWFyIHR2IHR1bmR3ciB0b3NheQ%3D%3D
Completely agree with you . Sega did what Switch do after 30 years later !! Sega never able to be king of mainstream but definitely SEGA always was King of video game console . Being always ahead of it's time made it hard to understand to oridinary ppl always in it's glorious history . Atari also was KING back to it's own time .
Currently playing Pokemon blue on an original Gameboy Pocket. The game is a very relaxing and minimalist. The monocrome Display adds to the whole experience, too. Saw a trailer from the new Japanese show Poketsume, which seem to have nice, somewhat nostalgic visuals and is losely connected to the first Pokemon games.
The florescent backlight definitely was a big fat double-edged sword. The power drain it brought was horrible, and basically forced you to get a power accessory or pay the price, but if you *were* just gonna play it plugged in or something while you’re stationed out of your home, I can definitely see this being much more enjoyable than trying to play a Game Boy and angle that to the nearest good light.
One of the things I liked about the game boy was the games would often be more sophisticated. Think of things like gargoyles quest or the third teenage mutant Ninja turtles game or Metroid 2 Color comes at a cost and it cost is cartridge space. It eats up the space much faster and back then that was an issue. The Sega Genesis had a similar problem with its high-resolution sprites. Eventually ROM technology caught up but you were looking at 93 or 94 by then.
The Game Gear was more powerful console than the NES and had a lot more on screen colors. The NES obviously had a better game library though, and it's not even close.
@@RetroDream I have both, but I’m tired of dealing with Game Gear systems breaking. I’d love to be able to play them through a GG converter on SMS. To my knowledge, no one has made anything like that
Does the newer screen help with the battery life? I took mine apart to see if I could fix it and it had "Danger - High Voltage warnings on the bulbs" I assumed this is what ate the batteries.
I love Game Gear, unfortunately I can't find it anywhere at a reasonable price. My father was amazed by this console and wanted it in the past, but it was quite pricey; he preferred spending his money on computers. I believe it was innovative and original when it was released, along with the Atari Lynx. But I still appreciate the original Game Boy for other reasons: I grew up with Nintendo DS and Game Boys represent its spiritual predecessor with some "retro charm". :-)
I agree the Game boy has retro charm, just like all other oldies from that time. But you're right, the Game gear was expensive, and I just realized I didn't stress this fact enough in the video.
Great master system only games shown, afterburner, ghouls n ghosts, rtype etc

Great video! Sega Master System was also my favourite back in the day! And the Game Gear was a great console indeed.
It was. Thanks for your feedback George
Sega was for people that not had enough money for buy a super nintendo
Someone should update that tv tuner so it can show digital television.

Mastersystem games can run on a sega Nomad after bridging one circuit and using an adapter or flash cart but game gear on Nomad wont work.
Good to know, thanks for the heads-up
Thanks for info
*WOW! SEGA should hire you and bring the Game Gear back!* 💡
That explains why RetroArch uses a Sega Game Gear emulator to run Sega Master System games on my Anbernic.
Now that's a great idea for a game gear mini, a portable console which includes several games with a modern long life battery
Absolutely.
And who said that the Game Gear can't be a portable power house?
Game Journalists, apparently.
Nintendo fanboys too

It should pley even SG-1000 games
Absolutely love that screen! Is it you that have made it or do you know where I can get such mod for the Game Gear! Loved the video, thank you!!
Thanks for your feedback! It's a pretty much standard mod that you can find easily.
Cool, I thought the graphics were just cropped rather than resized.
That depends on the games
I used my Walkman back in the day on rechargeable NiCd batteries. Would those give enough power for the Game Gear?
I think so

Yes that makes a point. Although the Game Gear was not only about color, it also featured many sophisticated games.
Since the game gear runs master system perfectly, then it can be a portable tv with a game gear tuner
Absolutely 💯
The convertor doesnt play xenon 2 trying to find a fix 😢
really? that's strange
Как работает уменьшение оригинального разрешения Mastter System с 256×192 до 160x144 Game Gear?
need to investigate
NES was better than SMS. but GG smashed the GB.

@@felixfranzen7318 Absoluely
what brand of screen did you put in ?
BennVenn
is original screen too bad? I am interested but the moded ones go for almost $300.
Someone PLEASE make a way to do this the other way around.
You have GG cartridges to use with a Master system?

The original screen of the Gameboy is better than game gear. You need to change the screen of the game gear and that wasn't possible in the 90s.
