- I recently started learning to dockstart on a pump foil. While I am not there yet I wanted to share my progress so far.
The foil is a Indiana 1100P with 420 fin, 75cm mast and a 90cm board rented from www.gearloose.ch/

This technique is so right !!!
I accidentally adopted it since I am left-handed and regular. I just wanted to get as much speed as possible and using this side allowed me to guide the board longer and still get some speed.
Take away: It is just as hard as it looks. I commend you on your persistence.
Dang. The farther you go before you fall off, the farther you have to swim back to the dock dragging it with you. Ouch.
Me after the first hour. Effit I'm buying a jet ski
Nah man. I guess maybe your not depressed. But the idea of having a nice calm place like this lake to work on something hard is what i desperately want. I desire to learn something no matter the difficulty. My depression comes from seeing how complacent and sloothful we have gotten. Taking pride in being lazy and uninterested in new things. Happy yo just watch a news channel and yell at who eere told to. Not being out there testing stuff ourselves comparing prices to resource costs to employers wages and bonuses to identify the most abusive companies and as a society just dtop buying from them. But nah. We just want netflix.
Also not saying your like that.
Just depression ranting O😅
Which is why history will forget your name..
@1stNumberOne Why would I care . You really think any of the known people from the past care that they are remembered.
Nope, they are dead and no longer exist . So go ahead waste a week of the time you have here for something that benefits no one.
You be remembered for being a moron.
I have great admiration especially for your persistence!
Lots of determination!!!
Him on the board, and me watching till the end!!! 😵💫
This is what regular people don't understand about getting "good" at something. Hundreds of times, maybe thousands of failures.. Most don't have it in them to suffer through that.
Kudos to you! I can’t imagine how soon I would have given up after so many failures. Very inspiring!
We learn from failures. Often how we learn best.
With each day of practice, you're not only learning the skills required for the hydrofoil, you're building strength and endurance in the necessary muscles. That was good progress in less than a week. I suspect you're riding with ease by now.
I am now casually riding around my dock but still struggle with longer distances. Check out my other videos to see more.
@@MarcEgliI have a picture of a ghost on a tv.
@@tristanbulluss9386get back in heck. Or my 4 mouths will drag ya back hades said rent is due on that ghost.
That's perseverance for you . FairPlay for not giving up
So... it's like jumping into the water, but only after you pump really hard at it.... Seems like a weird sport/device. GOOD LUCK! 😃
I take my hat off to you for not giving up
That's an impressive amount of cardio!
Hey a liitle advice to maybe, I see when you pump using only your back leg..... As soon as you pump with your back leg pump with your front leg on the front of the board right after you pump witb your front to and you will be able to go longer distances you sort of learned wrong all goo though took me twice this long to figure it out so Id say your doing great !
It is so gratifying to be in the process of improvement👍👍👍
Best motivational video I've seen in a while 👏👏👏
You must be in excellent shape, it looks exhausting.
I admire your tenacity.
I expect to see one of those in the next Bond movie. 🏄
Finally! a real dock start video - I went throught same pain. Finally just got an efoil.
Can't believe I watched some of this. Life really IS too short....
Thanks for sharing! Great motivation :D
Admiration my friend 💪
I'm glad you enjoy this... As for me, that's why I'll take a boat thank you!
magic looking extream work
You can see how powerful the down stroke is when you’ve got weight on the foil the problem is the up stroke the foil has so much more resistance in the water than your body can produce as a spring seems like a test of diminishing returns.
mec je sais pas qui tu es, mais je rentre de ma 1ère séance frustrante de badminton en 30 putain d'années de pratique, tu viens de me redonner le sourire ! délire ta planche ! bonne continuation !
I was cheering for you loudly from my couch! I just did my 6th session at my local dock, which is a floater, so the water is only about 6" below. That means I can push the board in the water, and run with it until the end of the dock. I can finally ride it out, until the nose raises up, and throws me off the back. I have the mast set all the way back, because I'm riding a "peanut", 3'11" board. The wing is also a shovel that swoops back (moving the CG further back), and it doesn't make lift until it's moving fast. I don't think I have enough leverage on this tiny board to keep the nose down, and start pumping.
Anyway, I'm building a new setup with a high aspect front wing, on a 5'0" board. Big props for taking and uploading video of your dock start saga!
It took me a while to get my GC forward enough, I would recommend to launch and try to have most weight on the front foot, most likely you would then manage to push the nose down. Once that is working I recommend slowly balancing the weight in a few attempts until you glide and hit the water with a level board without even starting to pump. Only after you consistently get your GC right, you should think about pumping again. Wish you more success next time!
311 pnut?!!! 👽🎸
@@danielcorrigan6998 this is a small board from Clearwaterfoil. I am using the 2'11 version in my newer videos.
Awesome job brother! Great progressions and video!
You ride that thing like a hobbit on mushrooms.
A great visual metaphor for "middle-aged gamer trying to get past a difficult level"
I laugh. Then realize I could never do it. Hat's off to you who try and succeed. .
So cool!! Does not seem easy
Just by looking at you, i am tired...
Congratulations
You have dock start wired, time to work on pumping and riding!
Respekt vor deinem Ehrgeiz. Ich hätte den ganzen Krempel schon lange in die Ecke gepfeffert.
This look so fun
"We taught an AI how to dockstart. Here's what happened."
I've never tried something like that, but it reminds me of trying to ride a unicycle.
This gizmo is based on some hellish physics factors that it is intentionally to make it difficult as fxxk: The friction between the feet and the board is way less than the resistance by the water under the surface. And by countering such a force difference, a 1 meter long leverage is set and connects the board and the fins, holy moly, that means you need both superman's leg muscles and precision of surgeons simultaneously! (Imagine using 2 fingers to pinch a 1 meter long and super greasy pen to write on a sandpaper 😂😂😂) let alone you have to steer the direction.
But it is hell lots of fun and exercise.
Somehow it is remimiscent of someone trying to force a flying bicycle to operate
When you imagine your canopy under water, try to make it describe a sinusoidal? without "pumping" with the legs, fixed rear leg, and the front leg flexes and extends with "fluidity" :D Good luck haha
Just watching this made my thighs burn!
Wow. U must have incredible leg muscles. Lol. Congrats
You can do it!
Beware the great white, Marc.
I like to imagine a crowd of 600+ people gathering 'round the dock and cheering you on. Such is the "likes" count at the time of my comment.
YOU GO BRA IM STOKED FOR YOU HOPE YOU MAKE IT TO SANTA CRUZ .SANTA CRUZ COLD WATER SURFING. THE GHOAST OUT.
I think if I tried that, it would be titled "How to get a deadly head injury in two easy steps."😮
Bravo
If you fall off, how do you get going again? Can you do a deep water start, or is swimming your best option? Pretty cool.
Yes, swimming back is my only viable option. That's why you won't see me pumping too far from the dock.
Maximum effort!
NEVER GIVE UP
NEVER SURRENDER
This looks similar to people (myself) learning how to ride a unicycle a lot of failures but you go just a bit further each time
The joy of learning something new.
I'm exhausted, and i didn't even do it!
Humans are awesome!
FANTASTICS、🎉
While it appears to be a fairly rapid method of muscle powered overwater travel, I don't know if the speed is worth the apparent energy expenditure.
I'm certain it's not. And thank you for your contribution to reason.
Give me a rowboat... any day of the week over this.
@@joetuktyyuktuk8635 My guess is that freestyle swimming expends a lot less energy per distance traveled. People have swum the English Channel. I can't see anyone keeping this up for near that distance.
@@bricaaron3978 It's an interesting concept, but I don't see it even really being fun, more of a "look what I can do... for a short distance"
Maybe a redesign, with levers you pull back and forth in opposing directions on each side of the platform, to power the mechanism. Even if that worked I don't see it being efficient.
as i see u trying , i see that the best result u have is when u push nose down and than push tail down while u pull nose up...and again...
it like an olli on an skateboard
persévérance est la clé
Cool video and it looks like you’re getting it but the music almost made it unwatchable. Wow that’s a bad song. Good job on the dock starts tho
Lmao…never give up!!!
Would he learn faster with a different choice of background music?
That looks exhausting
It is...
LOL that thing is so goofy. Looks like dude is using a pogo stick in the water
yeah for ~$2k I'd be dedicated to learning that thing too lol
So that’s just jumping into the lake with extra jumps.
i feel it would be easier if it had either a front handle or a heavier nose
would it be easier to launch on the other dock side ? i see you have to rotate 180 degrees before landing on the board which makes it even harder ...
The other side of the dock has shallower water with rocks so I didn't want to learn there. I tried a few times to start on the other side recently but since I am left-handed my push is much more consistent on this side. I got used to the turn and land 8/10 starts or more now.
Cool! How many time per day you spent?
I usually spent between 30 minutes and one hour but with small breaks in between. Probably 30 attempts on day 2 and fewer as i progressed.
What are these contraptions! They look like so much fun. I need one a.s.a.p atevthey expensive?
It's called a hydrofoil and you can check the description for the exact model. It is definitely not cheap but you might be able to get one for under 2000 USD if you are lucky.
@MarcEgli wow, so expensive 😅 I can get 2 second hand cars for that here in the UK 🤣 ill have to start saving 😆
😂👍
My board won't float like that when I release it... Does that mean my foil is too small or something ?
No it might not be too small but it is likely that it is moving too slow. Speed is your friend, it makes everything more stable and was one of the main reasons why I now land almost all my starts while I fell a lot during the early days.
Learning the dork fart
Like surfing don’t look down
I have watched this video.
So how do you know when you got it? Do you just try and see how far you can go?
If you watch my newer videos you see that I try to end my run close to the dock so I don't have to swim back. Then it's a game of how far am I able to go without having to swim.
Good job !
Thank you! Merci!
А с первого подхода не было понятно, что это какая то хренотень, которую надо бросить и забыть?
Простіше навчитись літати...)
Not sure what a successful ride looks like
Do you ever get pulled behind a boat?
how do you start in the middle of the lake tho lol
You don't
ouch. @@MarcEgli
I hear skateboarding is like surfin?
Ilove you
Not my toxic personality thinking I can do this in a couple of tries
Generation 1, Generation 25
Needs a e foil
No hay Nesquik
Why not the other side of the dock?
I am left handed and left footed. Pushing the board with my right hand is much harder to control. I am capable of starting on the other side now but it took some time to master.
すげー
아니 영상보면 딱 봐도 앞을 살짝 누르면서 떼는 동시에 뒤를 누르도록 해야될 거 같은데 동시에 계속 발구름을 하는건 왜입니까;;;
Yeah fuck that, boat, 👍
What if he/she fails at the middle of lake/sea?
I have to swim back ☹️
Who is he/she?
I weighs 94 kg
Is this possible for me?
Sure, I know people who weigh the same and still manage to pump foil. Maybe get a slightly larger frontwing and be prepared to put in the effort 🤙
If at first you dont succeed then try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, again..
Das gseht nach Zürisee us? ;-)
Richtig 😁
same as unicycling..
cools video, schöne See ;)
Merci!
Need long and more flexible fins underneath
Flexible means loosing energy. I tested the betafoil 2 weeks ago and that was super rigid with no flex at all.
What. Is. That.
