This was a momentous moment in chess. Brilliant but arrogant Kasparov thought he was invincible, but got “zeroed” (0-2) against Vladimir Kramnik (certainly one of the best players in history at his peak then), and felt shut down by a human version of Deep Blue 2.0
This brought mighty and arrogant Kasparov down to the ground, a bit.
It was best for chess too.

Kasparov actually was sort of convinced that Kramnik, who he helped “bring up”, would succeed him - some people think that his loss was in part to feeling like it might have been inevitable.

Similarly remarkable is that Topalov, too, has wound up looking quite good in comparison; Vladdy has done as Topalov did in ‘06, but several times over, and-in another comparison one’d never have imagined one’d find oneself making-with less grace, civility, and reason even than Danailov.

@Phurngirathaana before u talk about anything make sure u have a brain. Peak of raring doesn't mean peak it can be due to various reason such as competitions opportunity different opponents etc (Karpov fe nearly stopped).
Kasparov became a champion at about 20 while here is nearly 40. So no chess player is at peak at 40. Every champion loses one day and it means nothing that kramnink did it. Casablanca also lost his championship and carlsen would lose no. 1 as well . Let's see what happens when he is 40.

@johnanderson5009but that doesn't make sense. Garry being the 13th and Kramnik being the 14th world champion... How is that trash? Just because it was from Fide? Why did he compete and celebrate his victory against Karpov if it was trash? Kasparov is mad to change his stance according to what suits him at any given moment.

    • @johnanderson5009

@@kartz2010 Back in 2000 there twere two Chess World Champion titles ever since Kasparov and Nigel Short (qualified through the candidates matches and beat Karpov) broke away from FIDE in 1993 to play their match for the World Championship. So from 1993-2000 the lineal World Champion was Kasparov (until beaten by Kramnik) and the FIDE World Champion was Karpov. The unification match came in 2006 when Topalov (FIDE Champion) and Kramnik (lineal Champion) played eachother.
