I just got out of an interdiction by deliberately flying into a planet and getting 2% damage. It was a bold strategy that I didn't actually expect to work.
Yeah, an NPC tried to do that once by flying close to a planetary ring. Chasing him a few thousand meters above it at 10% of lightspeed felt really cinematic!
I just started playing last week. decided to get rich off mining first. First time I got interdicted I had no idea what was going on. I was carrying 180 something void opals and knew whatever was happening wasn't good though. Thankfully I naturally just went for the escape vector and got out. I had to look up what just happened to me, had no idea it was even a thing.
I struggled the same way. This video (and comments) helped me - I'm in the same boat, Picked up ED on sale, and promptly spent 20 times the price on a HOTAS (joystick and throttle) voice-attack, to speak commands to the ship etc... first panic. Landing without the auto-sequence.... once that became second nature... I started mining LT diamonds as other guides recommended to build credits... and then... I've tried to interdict NPCs a few times for some assassination missions, but I find that every time I win the interdiction I end up rolling around and taking hull/module damage as if doing an emergency drop from supercruise. Is there any way to avoid this?
The best you can do it pop 4 pips in engines and boost out of it - otherwise just part of it (they will be reeling too). The bitch is NPCs can cheat and insta jump without the full cooldown so get a shot on them fast so they'll stop.
This may be due to the speed you're doing while interdicting. If possible, have the speed in the blue zone (or even lower) when you start the interdiction.
Did they change the controls when I was away? Haven’t played E:D in a couple months, but last time I played, you didn’t need to hold the button through the entire interdiction.
Yeah, honestly I might have been wrong when I said that - it's just my habit that I hold it and I didn't think about it too much when I wrote the script since I've always done it that way.
Lol, it’s fine. I’ve been wanting to get back into the pilot’s seat lately and that would’ve been pretty embarrassing. Immediately failing a bunch of interdictions ‘cause I hadn’t gotten the memo. Heh. :3
How do you get behind your target in supercruise, in the first place? Mine just escapes and, by the time I get to suprecruise, it has already teleported thousands of ls away. Am I supposed to engage supercruise as soon as my target starts charging his?
I honestly have no clue how to even begin to do one. I was after a bounty, and they used their FSD and escaped. I engaged supercruise to try and interdict them, but they were completely gone. I can't even find them once their gone. Do I engage supercruise while they're charging their FSD? I have no idea how to do it.
Real question: How do I prevent them from just running away again the moment they're interdicted? I'm having major problems with this - every time I interdict an NPC, he just *immediately* charges up again, eats my damage with his shields, jumps out and recovers. Isn't his FSD supposed to be on mandatory cooldown for a set amount of time? How the fck are they instantly charging it and jumping? To make matters worse - I think to myself "Gee, well, I have a bigger ship at least - so more fuel than him. Just keep jumping after him until he's out"... then when he runs out he suicides into the sun rather than face me - resulting in no bounty credit at all ( *even if I did damage him at the start of the chase!* ), and only managing to waste my time, and piss me off. -.- I guess what I'm saying is: "Why is this mechanic stupid?"
OK. What I want to know is this: in supercruise what's the sensor range for ship detection? If one wants to evade interception / interdiction then keeping out of detection range seems sensible. Are sensors in SC engineerable? Or are they the same module as for normal flight?
It depends on your speed, but honestly I'm not sure exactly how far it is - and no, that's not engineerable. Engineering sensors only affects the range in standard space. So yes, staying out of sensor range means you can't be interdicted as that range is MUCH further than an interdictor. The thing is when you slow to drop at your destination that's when the attacker gets you as he doesn't have to slow down.
Thanks. I've tried to keep tabs on a contact and let it drift further away but NPCs seem to be, well, uncooperative. Knowing this range gives an idea how far away from the shipping lanes we need to be. I've even looped right around to approach a destination from the 'rear' so to speak to evade detection; not had any contacts until I came into range of the orbital station at times. Planetside is more problematic as more time is required in manoeuvring. Still, in both cases go in hard and fast and use gravity braking helps. IRCC, Isinona demonstrates this technique as only he can! I hope he has another video soon.
One idea to evade if you think someone is after you is to fly past your destination and purposefully do the "loop of shame" - that way they are going to have to decelerate and turn with you. If you're far enough ahead this works rather well. I didn't put that in the video for 2 reasons - first I'm working on a "Surviving trade in open" video and as I'm a pirate I don't wanna let all the secrets out ;-)
I have a good sensor, and can see NPC and Player ships as far away as 450K LY. The idiotic thing about that is that the attacker knows where am I heading with me not even having a clue he is after me, until it is too later. Therefore, I hit F13 (Combat Log button :) ) LOL

Depending on your range from the attacker and their sensors you may break their target lock - preventing the use of missile and otherwise making it harder for them to see you. Doesn't always work but if you have the sink it's a good idea to use it.
Submit, pips to power, FA off, boost, boost, high wake...never had a problem regardless of ship I was piloting with 1-2 exceptions: Pre-2.0 my hauler was mass-locked by 2 Anacondas...it was over so fast, I din't feel it...much, lol.
If by "pips to power" you mean pips to sys (systems) then yep, that's it. If you mean to any other then no, always to systems. 4 pips in systems makes your shields 2.6 times stronger so you want them there.

And again ALWAYS high wake in this situation.
You have ruined the Sunday of all those griefers out there Exi, let the salt flow. :)
Well, not exactly - sorta sadly. Depending on your build even if you submit and only give them 10 seconds there are some super-powerful ships out there that can nuke you in that time. I am planning a "A Gankers Guide to Surviving a Gank", working with a few "emergent players" that I know ;-)
Anyone tried to self-destruct while doing the interdiction mini-game?
Nope because you can't - when you're in the mini-game the side panels are locked - plus you can't self-destruct while in Supercruise anyway...
Bruh, I've been interdicted by an actual griefer and actually won the interdiction, if you see you are failing then submit, otherwise you should fight back the interdiction, fly dangerous o7
I have Captin Pelley in my friends list ha
Whats your CMDR Name
-Captin Pelley
Cannon_155mm Absolutesw1tch. I added you during a CG a while ago because you were hilarious in local chat
Look at that, bringing players together! And yeah, Pelly can be pretty damn funny - we laugh at, err with, I mean with, him all the time.
I'm sorry for your loss
Saying things like full pips to sys and popping chaff is approx 0 helpful to new players
frontier should put you on their payroll...
I couldn't agree more - feel free to let them know that as well ;-)
Consider all the third party softwares or web applets the game has now... i mean they shld hire the entire world there.
Funny to interdict other player if you wish to stop them from reaching their goal.
C’est
very well explained..
