I did it. This channel was supposed to be a science channel. Nauka means science. Idk from where I got the idea tho. Maybe just because I subscribed to too many people on the other channel.
Oh and I want to experiment if my name "nauka" will feel natural, and has the same feel as my real name
I liked 5k videos in just about 6 months. I probably have already watched 20k videos on this channel lol
Almost all in English, that's probably why I'm able to type and understand English well

Hey matt, I have been doing "MIA" for almost 2 years now(precisely 23 months and 30days.). My navite language is portugues and my target language is english, this means that I can watch your wonderful videos to immerse myself xD. I have watched all your videos a lot of times and you have helped me a lot. I started outputing a little bit after 1.8years or so. I may make a video of me speaking english and showing how MIA has helped me achieve great results in a short period of time. Keep up the good work. Love you Matt

this is pretty much how i learned english as a kid. I would watch minecraft commentary videos in english all day which helped me slowly pick up on the language
its really crazy how many people in the world have been basically mia’ing english this whole time without realizing and yet they still cling to the old ways of language learning while trying to give people advice

I've been waiting for this, before I've just used private mode and set my country to my target language, this is a really good idea though! quarantine time immersion time
You can keep TH-cam playing on Chrome for free, at least in Android. Open TH-cam via the Chrome browser, set the page to show the PC version, press play on the video and lock the phone. It might stop initially but just like a music player it will leave a notification bar on your lock screen with buttons, and pressing play there will allow it to keep going even after the phone is locked.
Matt is right. English is not my first language but thanks to TH-cam I was eloquent enough to skip a class in English. I am still the best in my class. My next goal is Japanese.
I've done this for months now and I can confirm it works perfectly.

I live in small town in the middle of Russia and back in 2009 when I only started to discover TH-cam for myself, there was so little content in Russian so I pretty much had no choice but to try to watch videos in English. The majority of channels I'm subscribed to are in English and even though it's been 10 years I still don't have many recommendations in Russian. Never been abroad (not even to Moscow lmao), never met a native English speaker. But thanks to this happy "accident" now I can enjoy content in English and probably would be able to even hold a conversation if needed (even though I make lots of mistakes and may sound way too off :D)
okay, i just did what you recommended and goodness me it's working. i've only been doing this for about 15 mins and i feel WAY more immersed than my typical one account method, and like everyone says here, I am also mad that i have never thought of this despite being a binger 😭
As someone studying Japanese - I'd like to add a helpful tip. As most of you probably know, TH-cam videos usually come with closed captions. More likely than not, the Japanese videos you watch will have closed captioning. However, more likely than not, these captions will be auto-generated. Good news, I've found a few Japanese TH-camrs who have taken the time to add their own subtitles into their TH-cam videos and into the closed captioning.
Example: Tokyo Veg Life / Miku Real Japanese (some videos) / Sayura Saying
Next step I recommend. You can extract the closed captions (google how) and add those closed captions to a reader of your choice - this will help you with your immersion, reading, and allow you to look up words you don't know (if the reader/app you use provides that feature of course).
it BLOWS my mind how good generated japanese captions are, i remember how hilariously awful english used to be

@@ThaThree The new profile starts fresh. I mostly watch anime (and Terrace House) there, so the algorithm recommends me more related stuff

Tip: If you want to avoid logging in and out, you can use "Firefox Multi-Account Containers". Simply create a "Japanese" container and log in. Now on a "normal" tab you're on your standard YT account, but when you open YT in the "Japanese" container tab you're logged in to your Japanese YT account. You can be logged in to both your accounts (in separate tabs) simultaneously.

This is an awesome idea! I'm too lazy to handle dealing with multiple channels though. I, thankfully, am pretty decent at making sure I watch things in my target language because the channels I've subscribed to I can't find English equivalents for.

Thank you, I created a second channel and it worked great. Now I am roaming Japanese TH-cam and delighfully immersing myself.
I'm not an english speaker but i watch your every video. And so i can say, that your approach is 100% efficient. I have taught myself english and german and even if i can't speak fluently(just for now!), i easily watch netflix and english/german youtube. Thank you Matt for your work! :)

It's cool when you can actually understand what a foreign person is saying, it wasn't on TH-cam, but one time I picked up "motto" and "sugoi" from a video about womens' cardiovascular health.

MIA French - I actually do use a second youtube channel for french :D PS: MIA/AF(J)ATT for french is one lf the mlst powerful things that you could imagine, since the French are famous for their chronic incomprehensible slur tornado of words - but thats exactly why MIA works with French so much! Just in 80 days I am starting to differentiate more and more words, repping sentence cards and such and I already understand more real French than my ultra smart friends who studied French for more than 4 years...

I finally got Anki set up properly last night and read through some of the AJATT table of contents so I can figure out what i'm supposed to be doing. I have a good feeling about this. Another useful feature with TH-cam Premium is that you can download videos which you can then listen to on the go without any connection to the internet! With this, I’m able to continue my immersion when I’m at work, running errands, going for a walk etc.

I have been learning japanese seriously for about a month now. I have gone through everything on the MIA site and I am going to start with the recognition cards. I don't really know where I am in terms of skill level but I can understand simple anime like シロクマカフェ without any english subs and n5/n4 podcast on spotify to some degree around 70% I guess. My listening skill is way far ahead of my reading skill (maybe I should say kanji skill, because if things are written in hiragana I can understand them pretty well), this is probably because I have been watching anime and listening to japanese music for years although I never really was focused on learning the language at all, and also that I already have experience picking up a language through immersion though I never really thought it was a thing, I just had no real choice since I was just thrown into a foreign country and never had anyone actually teach me the language. I am not really sure where I should be in terms of the MIA level of studying, should I just go straight to sentence mining after kanji recognition?

I'm glad I waited to the end of the video. I have TH-cam premium but I didn't want to switch accounts because I didn't want to give up youtube premium. I had no idea you could have multiple accounts agle to access it from one email.
I did this ages ago for a different account. This current account i'm using is also for learning Japanese, but not strictly entirely in Japanese, although I still watch stuff in Japanese. I have 3 different account specifically because of the algorithm.

For youtube mobile just get TH-cam Vanced and block updates. Better UI, access to dark mode, access to all the options mentioned above + download and free.

You can actually create multiple channels under the same account. Each channel acts as like a separate profile. You can subscribe to contents in your first channel without affecting others.

You can also click 'not interested' for the random English videos you might get recommended. Just hover over the thumbnail and click on the 3 dots that appear on the righthand side. I've found it works quite well.

Thanks for the tips, youtube is a pain in the ass for putting background device playback behind premium, when I first noticed this I was bewildered I swear remembering being able to do so otherwise in the past. The good thing about being an android user is that you know theres probably an "an app for that" and well yeah, its called TH-cam Vanced.

Heh, I just watch enough in my target language that TH-cam thinks I'm already bilingual.
The only problem is: if you forget which account you are logged in and click an embedded video, the algorythm caught you and there's no going back.
Please post a video to show us which Chinese things you've subscribed to, too! I've never really looked for much stuff because... isn't TH-cam banned in China? I guess it's popular in Taiwan, eh?
