Nah, to be the channel just feels right with Coop on camera. As much as I do enjoy videos like this that are attainable, it's also fun to see Coop tour Gunnar's place in LA and to geek out on amazing gyms.
I've been saying this for a while now but Coop has gone from your average gym builder to a full fledged reviewer of high end gym products. Sam has been the real Garage Gym Guy for some time.
For budget stuff that isn't junk Rep Fitness is probably the best option for racks and benches. The Rogue Boneyard is a great place to look for bars and collars. But be quick as they sell out really fast. Titian iron plates and decent and not super expensive. Skip kettlebells and dumbbells as they are luxuries not essentials. For what spend on that expensive air bike you could get a full set of sand bags and farmers handles and get some functional cardio. If you absolutely need a cardio machine buy it used since there are mountains or used bikes and treadmills out there.
Wow are we finally going back to budget friendly equipment as in referenced in “garage gym” rather than commercial equipment geared towards commercial gyms? Sam should make his own page called non-commercial gym equipment reviews.
" homegrown lifting" is a kentucky based maker of bumper plates, had mine for a while and they have been working well, and didnt smell hardly at all when i first got them. US made, and very competetive pricing
I just found your channel and started watching, the 1st video I saw was Coop valuing power racks and he had the XLT as the best value. Then I just kept watching. Ended up seeing around 20 videos at one sitting. I immediately subscribed and am still watching. The barbell drop in the driveway and the dumbbell drop off the building are 2 of my favorites. Great Channel, Coop
Awesome video for sure. One thing I’d personally change for someone just starting a gym would be the bike. It’s just too easy to get other forms of cardio for cheap/free and that $600 could go a long ways towards other areas of the gym.
Budget has more appeal to more people. With unlimited funds you an buy anything, but it gets much more difficult with limited resources. You need to find the sweet spot for every single product. Good for Sam.
I don't know what the disconnect between the general population and the channel is, but when we talk about a bugdet cardio machine, it means $90 stationary bike on Amazon, not a $600 air bike. Maybe there's something about air bikes that I just not know about that's so magical but that's not what most (non elite) people use.
I much more prefer Sam with budget stuff. Feels more relatable. Like there's no way I can look at the stuff Coop reviews and actually afford it one day. But this, this I can get behind.
I have a Rep PR-1100 and it’s a great value. The main reason I went with it is it fits in my space with relatively low ceilings. I’d love to upgrade when a higher ceilings allow it, but it really will last you a lifetime. Well worth the little extra it costs over the super budget racks.
Would love you guys to test squat wedges, specifically comparing all the angles they come in and how they feel to use. The new Rogue squat wedges, while not a budget pick, range from 5 to 30 degrees. I imagine that either the 15 or 20 degree ones would be the best to go for but I can't compare....
@@josephbloxham3992 Completely agree. Worth comparing them too to discuss pros and cons. I imagine shoes are best as are much easier to use and can be used anywhere, but wedges are best if you need a larger angle. (just not too large... which is what I would like to find out)
@gavin brown problem for this one is there is no best, it will vary depending on how you want to tweak the movement and what that person’s squat is like right now. I can tell you you’re right though and the middle angles (10,15,20) are more useful more often.
@@coachthierry1 Cheers. Yes, agreed. Was just speaking generally i.e. if you just need a bit of extra ankle dorsiflexion to aid your squat, then squat shoes are def worth considering. If you have other exercise goals, or an injury like myself, then the larger squat wedge angles come into play. Cheers for angle advice. Would be nice to try them in person before buying...
@@GavinBrown i have some amazon rubber ones that create 3 angles because they separate in two and stack. That may be good to investigate although once you know the angle you want like I do a fixed wedge feels a little bit better. I end up using 15 degrees for myself and my goals but I still want to the 10 and 20 to achieve different effects or for clients.
Would be cool to see this with more of a themed garage gym like a boxing gym or an MMA gym or a jujitsu gym. That’s really the direction my gym is going kind of a calisthenics/boxing gym. I wanna see something like your best rock climbing/mobility work garage gym.
I have the CAP power cage, 2x2 post, 1in holes. Safety bars and J-hooks included. I bought it on Amazon for 350CND, so around 250USD, free shipping. The J-Hook are metal only so I glued carpet pieces on them to avoid scratching my bar. I added a land mine (I had to drill some holes on the bottom post) and a dip attachment. I've been using it for the last 3 years, it's still very solid, no loose bolts!
i guarantee you that if you guys did more real budget friendly shows you would get even more views and subs. MOST people are looking for options that arent going to break the bank. I understand there is a market for mid level and expensive. BUT throw some budget in there too and its good..
Please review York Barbell’s racks and benches from their FTS and/or STS lines. And also their barbells and plates. I live near their warehouse and built a great home gym on a budget with their products. (FTS squat stand, full set of bumper plates, hybrid bar, FTS adjustable bench, oly loadable DBs, 35 and 50 KBs and more). I would love to see how you rate their products against other budget products. I personally love them. Also, please review bodylastic bands. I think those should have been included in your previous video comparing the bands. And for something very different… please compare yoga mats from different brands. Thanks and keep up the incredible work!!!
I just started the Bioneer's mostly bodyweight routine and can't agree with these choices more. I just bought a house and dont have much cash to build a home gym. Stuff like this is what I can actually afford and does the job. Only thing I would take out is the aero bike. You don't need that to get in cardio shape.
More stuff from Bells of Steel. Glad you're doing the blitz bike, would like to see more from them. I have their light commercial rack and I really like it.
I would prob go with mil-spec on the bumper plates, they are thicker and have more bounce but are cheaper. Vulcan has the cheapest iron plates right now, on sale 45lb plates are $60 each, free shipping too.
I started my home gym with the same CAP half rack, a cheap barbell that came with a set of cast iron weights set and a cheap adjustable bench from dick’s (fitness gear) and lastly a set of powerblock classic 50. All those served me well for about 10 years, granted I wasn’t lifting real heavy stuff when I was starting. I started upgrading last year, first my rack to a titan T3 with a lat pull down attachment, my bench to a rep fitness AB3100 bench, a couple of rogue bars and some specialty bars from titan. I agree with Coop when he says buy once, cry once but at the same time I don’t really need the overbuilt stuff rogue offers since I don’t think I’m gonna need those kind of specs. I like these videos that shows options for all kinds of budgets.
Finally a break from luxury home gym reviews. I built out my entire basement home gym for $1,600 (so far :D ). All are shipped costs + tax listed below Everything was purchased between June 2022 and last week, so some of them were discounted and not available right now. 1 Olympic Barbell - Sporzan $80.00 - Amazon (hasn't deformed yet with max of 365 loaded on it for deadlifts) 2 Squat Rack - Canpa adjustable rack - $120.00 Amazon 3 AMGYM Weights - bumper plates 160 lb set - $338.00 Amazon 4 Safety Clips $9.00 Amazon 5 Adjustable Bench - LINODI $102.00 Amazon 6 Pull-up Bar $25.00 Estimated - Lowes - DIY with 4' metal pipe 7 Tape - for pull-up bar $11.00 (pipe is a bit slippery and leaves leaves some residue otherwise). 8 Dip Belt $26.00 RIMsport - Amazon 9 Everyday Essentials Bumper Plates $147.00 2 45 lb plates - Amazon 10 Change Plates $47.00 -2x10, 2x5, 2x2.5 bought used from FB marketplace 11 Rug Pad $86.00 - Cut up to make drop pads. 12 Black Duct Tape - to make drop pads $22.00 13 Cap 45 lb plates (2) - $105.00 Amazon 14 Short Resistance Bands $14.00 Fit Simplify - Amazon 15 Pull-up Assistance Bands $37.00 Hapbear set of 5 - Amazon 16 CAP Adjustable Dumbbells 2x 52.5 lb set (includes 2 17" handles) - $141.00 Amazon 17 CAP Adjustable Dumbbells - 60 lb set (includes 2 14" handles) - $91.00 Amazon 18 Bench Press Safty Spotters- $20.00 DIY w/plywood & 2x4s - Estimated - Lowes 19 Rubber Flooring - Rubber surface $134.00 (would recommend horse stall mats but sold out in my area at the time) 20 Lifting Platform $35.00 Estimated - Lowes (2 sheets of 15/32 osb) 21 Olympic Rings - Myprotein $15.00 Estimated - price includes reduced shipping cost for protien powder order due to hitting spending threshold
Total Costs $1,605.00 My biggest limitation is lack of spotter arms for heavy back squatting, but I prefer the front squat anyway. The drop pads + lifting platform help me bail a front squat without making a shit ton of noise.
Please do a comparison on manual incline treadmills. They're inexpensive, compact, and the nicer ones look like they're a reasonable alternative to a push/pull sled. The nicest one as far as I can tell is the Sunny Health & Fitness SF-T7723 which you can currently get for $400 on Amazon with free shipping. Reviews and comparisons for these treadmills are basically nonexistent.
How about doing some videos on space efficient gyms for those of us who live in high cost cities. Apartments cost about $1000 a square foot where I live in Miami, so the cost of the space is a much, much bigger consideration than the cost of equipment.
I've built my home gym last boxing day (2021). I workout 5 days a week and i chose the cap barbell squat rack. The thing is that for every component, there is an other better option for a little bit more, but at the end, including all those little more, it's a huge more lol. well, one year later, my squat rack is still holding tight. I know what i want next, but i'll wait an other year before buying an other one. i'll give you the review after 2 years ;)
Kind of like one of those 10 minute shopping sprees from the 80's... "You've got 10 minutes to grab everything you can and get it out the door and you can keep it!" (contest idea? I don't know... just a thought :) Also, @ 1:40 what's the little step looking thing in the lower left on the Rogue squat rack?
I have a CAP squat rack to use for calisthenics with rings, a dip station (?), bands, powerblocks, and a Schwinn bike. Good set up unless you want to become a bodybuilder lol
Maybe be a budget review but definitely not good for people looking to do multiple types of workouts. For example… How am I supposed to to incline anything or leg exercises others then different types of squats? How do I do decline exercises? How do any cable type exercises? I think it would be best to do a budget build for someone who is looking to lift weights and be able to to all types of exercises that are needed.
As a college student I would change out some things for a real budget gym. I would probably get cheap squat stands ($65 rated for 550lbs so spend more if you're stronger), a rogue boneyard bar ($200) or if you wanted to make it even cheaper use a 8ft 2in steel pipe with some clamps for a cheap axle bar, used iron plates or the cheapest new iron plates (I've seen as low as $1/lbs used so if you search $400 for 400lbs), a used or the cheapest bench I can find ($30), for DBs I would just make them out of 2in steel pipes and other things from home depot ($20), and for everything else I just wouldn't buy cause you don't need it. This comes out to $715 with 445lbs of weight in total with the weight being the most expensive thing. And then if you're worried about the floor you can make your own platform for about $125 if you buy a 4'x8' 3/4" osb plywood sheet (~$25) and then 2 4'x6' 3/4" horse stall mats (~$100). Or you could even make giant bumpers by bolting 5lbs plates onto some old tires which could be free if you have the tools. You can make things pretty cheap and very useable if you try. I got lucky to get my dad's old weight set but I'm still doing things like making my own dip belt for $20 (which actually turned out better than any dip belt I've used), making my own bumpers, and making my own platform.
What would be awesome to see, is a guide for buying second hand gear and what to look out for. Many of us are considering second hand cardio machines (ie rowers, treadmills) that typically sell for thousands, but even though there’s a ton of incredibly well priced used options, I personally don’t know what to look for to save myself the future headache… what do you guys think??
I would like to see an adjustable dumbbell Roundup for the non Bowflex style of dumbbell. The Bowflex style the length of it doesn't change as you adjust the weight up and down the non Bowflex style the weight stack slowly grows on the dumbbell so that the length slowly increases as you adjust the weight up. Nuobell and Nordictrack are examples
Excited for the blitz bike review! I would like to know if I can recommend it to clients, friends and family who need one piece of equipment to get some cardio in at home.
Not bad on choices, but I would forget about the rings, cause those are unnecessary. Forget the weight vest, not needed either. Forget the overpriced air bike too. Buy a better 3x3 rack, like the one from Titan at 690 or so. Get a cheaper barbell, unless youre a true powerlifter. Buy cheaper bumper plates like ones out here for .89 a lb. Same with a few pairs of dumbells. Buy good running shoes and run/walk, run your dog or hike and forget the air bike. Buy a decent bench to add to rack. Cost total much less than $2500. Done.
Great video 👍 Here is a video idea for budget equipment: I'm looking at adding a budget lat pulldown machine to my home gym. I know Coop reviewed the plate loaded Titan Fitness lat pulldown, but I'd love reviews on two others I found on Amazon. The XMark lat pulldown looks like it is heavier duty than the titan fitness for about the same price, and the GDLF lat pulldown looks like it might get the job done for about half the price, but it's package weight is the lowest of them all. A lat pulldown roundup would be awesome.
GGR please review the Kensui adjustabell ... $35 spin lock loadable dumbell handles, but I'm speculative of the durability (as plastic) and security of the weight.
I love my Ethos 1.0 power rack. It was $699 when I got it but is now $799. I ordered a fitness gear 300lb bar/weight set for $240 with it - order online for instore pickup saved 10% so the whole setup was $913 after tax. After getting set up i liked it so much I added the Ethos dip horns and landmine($140 combined). That Ethos rack was a bargain, it came with monkey pull-up bat, fat pull-up bar, spotter arms, pins and J hooks. Its a shame GGR hasn't done a review on it.
@@TheNotimprezed I picked up the Half rack "multifunctional Trainer" in 2018, I want to see the Barbell and weights reviewed, to see how they stack up against Titan, Rep and Rogue
Do a crossrope review. They are pretty inexpensive and weighted jump ropes are a killer workout. It probably just depends on what type of athlete the gym is for.
Would love to see a review on the Hulkfit power rack with lat pull down and cable crossover attachments. I think they also just released some lever arms. I have a Fitness Reality that y’all have reviewed. Unless you are a monster lifting over 500, I don’t really see why you’d need anything more. Check out the Hulkfit stuff. I’m guessing it is made out of the country which is a thumbs down, but hard to beat budget wise. I also wish it wasn’t yellow haha.

Titan Fitness pulley tower!
Rack mounted lat pull downs on budget racks.
Can u please review the budget walmart black and yellow power cage with the lat pull-down/low row attachment
the CAP open trap bar, asking for a friend
Supermarket Sweep! Garage Gym Reviews Edition
Anyone else randomly pausing the video to check out the equipment even if it's not mentioned?
Excited for the blitz bike review! I would like to know if I can recommend it to clients, friends and family who need one piece of equipment to get some cardio in at home.
ISF Fitness in NJ. Their power bar is amazing.
what about 28mm bars and plates?
Not bad on choices, but I would forget about the rings, cause those are unnecessary. Forget the weight vest, not needed either. Forget the overpriced air bike too. Buy a better 3x3 rack, like the one from Titan at 690 or so. Get a cheaper barbell, unless youre a true powerlifter. Buy cheaper bumper plates like ones out here for .89 a lb. Same with a few pairs of dumbells. Buy good running shoes and run/walk, run your dog or hike and forget the air bike. Buy a decent bench to add to rack. Cost total much less than $2500. Done.
Or just buy the rings.
I see climbr there I how you guys compare it to versaclimber home unit is same ball park for price.
Push it to the limit!
I have to ask, wouldn't the Titan t2 be better due to being 12 gauge steel instead of 14 gauge like the REP pr 1100?
TDS is another good budget brand. Very sturdy power racks for the money, for example.
great to see some content for mere mortals! Stuff like a Rogue attachments worth a month's rent are not for everybody...
Great budget picks video. Could you please review bells of steel's light residential rack? Do you think it's upgradeable in the future?
Probably a long shot but was wondering if you could do a European budget home gym equipment video 😅
Waiting for my PR-1100 rack to come in....what is that leg attachment that you guys have on yours?
Sam you son of a gun, you're speaking my language!
What are your thoughts on the bells of steel equipment- open hex bar, oly bar, functional trainer etc?
Is it 240p only for somebody else as well?!
Yes I thought something was wrong. TH-cam sucks at processing videos
having the same issue
Same here
Hang in there! TH-cam is still processing HD and 4k versions.
@@GarageGymReviews tell TH-cam to get it together 😂😂
Great video 👍
Here is a video idea for budget equipment:
I'm looking at adding a budget lat pulldown machine to my home gym.
More Sam videos please.
I just picked up a pair of the Powerblock 24 sports, and I'll have to say I love them! One day I can't wait to upgrade to the larger set
GGR please review the Kensui adjustabell ... $35 spin lock loadable dumbell handles, but I'm speculative of the durability (as plastic) and security of the weight.
Budget lat pull down machines other than Titan.
Hey, what about standard barbells ,plates and dumbbell handles ?
Is there any strongman budget friendly? Stone of steel? Farmers (top loaded) handles? Yokes? Log’s?
Gone are the days of the 1000 dollar home gym.
What is the best assisted pull-up setup without a machine? I am getting a cage but like to do assisted pull ups.
Aussie pro runner! Supposed to be a budget version of the skillmill
Can you guys review the Ethos equipment from Dick's Sporting Goods?
Is that a leg press attachment on the RepPr 1100?
Review on climbing ropes
Do another video reacting to other home gyms!
Do a crossrope review. They are pretty inexpensive and weighted jump ropes are a killer workout. It probably just depends on what type of athlete the gym is for.
Review the Titan wallmount pulley v3 plz
Do the Titan S&D uprights come with hardware? Those giant bolts aren't cheap
Love it
Would love to see a review on the Hulkfit power rack with lat pull down and cable crossover attachments.
My issue with hulkfit was it’s not 1”x1” uprights so attachments are harder to match
