    Some of the things you said are not entirely true, though i will just brush it off as you not being super experienced. for example, you said that bosses dont seem to have any description or reason for being where they are, but that isnt completely true. Some, like the Leechmonger, are pretty bland and dont have any lore, but most have tons of lore behind them. All of the bosses in Boletarian Palace are demonic forms of the three knight captains, The tower knight, penetrator and archer. The shrine of storms bosses are all part of the religion that originates there. For example, Adjudicator was the one who judged souls, if they were unworthy the body would devour them. Fool's Idol was just that, an idol created to inspire false hope in the prisoners of the tower. Flame Lurker was a demon that was sealed away, but breaks free when the player enters the temple. There's lore for him but i forget it. All the Archdemons have extensive lore and descriptions behind them too. Also you only lose tendency if you die in human form, soul deaths count as nothing. I'm aware that you aren't particularly experienced in the soul series so it's understandable, but when watching a review it bugs me when people say things that aren't exactly correct :/

    @acerpg007 You're not impressing anyone by trying to show off on the internet. Demon's Souls is objectively punishing and difficult, it's billed as such, it was developed as such, it's universally reviewed as such. Bragging about things you will never have to prove on the internet is one of the easiest and most spineless things you can ever do and as such, doesn't impress anyone.

    "Certainly not a story based game."
    While I can see where your coming from, but after playing the game, reading item descriptions and doing some research on the lore I'd say this game has got a amazingly deep story and it's a shame not many people find this.

    I feel like you, I had neglected it a long time for an RPG fan and I just ordered it yesterday and today I see you posted a review of it.
    I hope I'm in for some frustration...
    You keep up your great reviews!

    I got this as an Xmas present. This game has been one of the greatest games I have ever played. Definitely hard but totally worth the time I put into playing this game, so much entertainment :D

    your review got me into the souls games. thank you dude. without you i would have never found out about these amazing games.

  • @ZeitgeistReview
    @ZeitgeistReview  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @SoraDrive Well kind of. The game is divided into 5 zones, and you can free-roam them once you enter a zone, but the zones are not connected. You can play any level in any order you wish though.

  • @IrisKatze
    @IrisKatze 10 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    The story wasn't supposed to be the focus. The GAMEPLAY was. Something games nowadays should take some fucking notes from.

  • @ZeitgeistReview
    @ZeitgeistReview  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Playstationgamer814 That's not what I meant. I meant that you can play disconnected from the beginning to avoid being invaded by black phantoms.

    A good review of my favourite PS3 title! I played through it at least 3 times.. You didn't mention the Pure Black/White world tendency events! There are many of these extra quests and they really add to the replay value.

    I purchased the Asian version of this game on it's released and enjoyed it so much I picked it up day one for the US release. I haven't seen a game as cleverly difficult and remarkable in ages. One of the best this generation. Nice review.

  • @ZeitgeistReview
    @ZeitgeistReview  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Danny77uk Online players can only enter your game if they are within a specific level range relative to your own, and you have to be alive, ie: not in soul form, and they must be dead, ie: in soul form. If they kill you, they gain their body back. It doesn't happen very often, I think in my 41 hours, only 3 people entered my game, and I killed one of them. You could also disconnect yourself from the internet to prevent it from happening. There is no voice chat, so you can't hear them either

  • @ZeitgeistReview
    @ZeitgeistReview  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @DragonRising88 Well the developer was From Software, which I credited, and the publisher in NA, where I bought my copy, was Atlus.

  • @ZeitgeistReview
    @ZeitgeistReview  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Hailtothegun That's partially my point. While all of the info is there, you have to look for it and work at it to actually understand it. It's not presented to you in a manor that helps you understand. So while there may actually be a good story buried in there, it's exactly that, buried in there.

  • @ZeitgeistReview
    @ZeitgeistReview  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Myncu Why is that a spoiler? That's the first thing they mention to you outside of the tutorial.

  • @ZeitgeistReview
    @ZeitgeistReview  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @kreeboy411 I believe that it was extended for a full year actually.

  • @ZeitgeistReview
    @ZeitgeistReview  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @knwitham What's unfortunate is that when I played, there was a pure white event going on for a few weeks, so no zones ever left pure white, so I didn't experience anything but that.

  • @ZeitgeistReview
    @ZeitgeistReview  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Aepriz Yea, once you've beaten the game once things get much easier. I played through this again a few weeks back and had very little trouble. The tough boss my first playthrough was the maneaters.

  • @ZeitgeistReview
    @ZeitgeistReview  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @RedOgre9 I'd say playing as a Royal or a Hunter would be the toughest.

  • @ZeitgeistReview
    @ZeitgeistReview  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @largo6661 No, I said I liked that the music only played during the boss fights, I just said that the quality of the music during those fights wasn't the best.

    • @Slyguy846
      @Slyguy846 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +OfficerMarmalade The Armor Spider's weakness is pure tankiness. The bulkier your character is, the better. You shouldn't care about equip load, because rolling doesn't matter because of its web debuff.

    • @BossDrSample

  • @ZeitgeistReview

    @Ki11agramm Indeed I did which sucks. I had it in my notes, and had it in my rough draft script, but accidentally deleted the line that mentioned it and I didn't realize that until I was rendering, so by that point it was too late.

  • @ZeitgeistReview
    @ZeitgeistReview  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @ridabelaco There are no difficulty options and you can't block others from joining your game... unless you disconnect yourself from the internet, but then you'd lose the other benefits of online play.

  • @ZeitgeistReview
    @ZeitgeistReview  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @ibstrd Playing as a mage will not trivialize anything. It will make it easier yes, but it will still be one hell of a game for you.

  • @Richieb75
    @Richieb75 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice review.. I bought this game when it came out because I was intrigued about the online play. The guy at Gamestop told me I had 3 days to return it because of the difficulty..lol. You forgot to mention that after the tutorial and nexus cutscene you have to beat the first area in the castle before going to any other level. And there is no way to level up your character until then. I think the hardest part of the game is beating that first level. My 14 year old son is on his 4th play through

  • @TheJorus
    @TheJorus 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't know if you know about it right now, but there's plenty of NPC dialogue and item descriptions to give a great deal of story to the player, in both Demon's and Dark Souls

    @MusicJutsu I hear that! The first few times I saw it I didnt' get it, as I was being summoned as the black phantom. Once you reach that boss it makes sense though :-)

  • @ZeitgeistReview
    @ZeitgeistReview  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @LiamNeesonsDick And I praised the game for only putting the sound track on the bosses. I said that the music that DOES exist during the boss battles is quite mediocre. It sounds to me like you just want to complain, which really I don't understand considering I said the game was great and it appears you feel the same.

  • @RustproofBurlap17

    @hahaloMY
    Boss souls are used to make multiple weapons in dark souls too.. Example "Soul of Quelaag" makes "Quelaag's Fury Sword" OR "Chaos Blade". So doing a NG+ to get both weapons is in the game.

  • @ZeitgeistReview
    @ZeitgeistReview  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @marchak I had a hard time with Armor Spider as well. I beat him simply with luck, and about 1% of my hp left.

  • @ibstrd
    @ibstrd 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @ZeitgeistReview So should I go as a warrior to experience the full force of the game then? It would suck if after all this building up some fireballs make the game easy.

  • @ZeitgeistReview
    @ZeitgeistReview  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @TheDevilBurning Do you know how to do that?

  • @Indarionnnnne
    @Indarionnnnne 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Reliquish Its hard to start in Demon's Soul, but once you understand how to play, its a perfect game. I never get tired of it. It took me 7-8hours to understand how to play the first level, after that, I didn't have much problem with the other level.
    You can't charge head front in this game, you need to be super defensive, dodging, parrying then attack a little !

  • @ZeitgeistReview
    @ZeitgeistReview  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @LiamNeesonsDick But it's not presented to you in a way that gets you involved this way. I felt no feelings for any characters and was not drawn in by any means to the story. Generic storytelling, no cut-scenes and limited voice-acted dialog means I don't get immersed. There is no sense in arguing about it, that's how I feel and that's how you feel. You were immersed, I was not.

  • @ZeitgeistReview
    @ZeitgeistReview  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @TheDevilBurning What do you feel needed to be discussed that wasn't? This isn't an in-depth analysis of the game, it's a review. Fan sites make the videos it seems you're looking for.

    @bloodshot93 Actually, I've heard of lots of people having significantly more trouble than even I did, to the point where they never even finished it, so yes, I'm going to relay my actual experiences with the game. If you happen to be more skilled at this game, well then that is just that, you're more skilled at this game than me.

    The maneaters are really tough! I only managed to beat them by sniping through the fog door. Later on warding and curse weapon spells really help, with a shield that offers magical protection.

    "hard as shit and fun as hell", well said. Great review, just seeing clips of this game brings back a lot of memories, makes me want to come back to it.
    Early on you mention that there really isn't much of a story, but I'd argue that the story is there, only not put forward in a manner typical to most games. If you listen closely to the things characters say, read about the items and the worlds, you'll have a better understanding of whats happening.

  • @Indarionnnnne
    @Indarionnnnne 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @LuscottDB9 When you kill the fat guys from the cut scene, he will drop a keyset. If you go back in the tower before the Tower Knight, you can use it to unlock the door and free Biorr from his jail.
    If you beat the Penetrator with Biorr still alive, he will "help" you with the next boss too.

  • @ZeitgeistReview

    @foxvbowser Only while you learn to play. Once you learn what you're doing, it gets better. I started a new game and raped face all the way through it the second time. Note, I did not play N+ mode or whatever it's called where the difficulty ramps up.

  • @thobaben
    @thobaben 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    I never managed to get past the second boss (the giant knight) but I did kill a dragon. It's cheap, but if you get up on one of the bridge towers, the red dragon will continue to fly past and burn the bridge, giving you enough time to fire one or two arrows at his face. It takes a while, but you can kill it like this and get some powerful soul candy!

    Well no game is perfect but when I describe a perfect game it's always a game which I will remember forever and when I think back I don't see bed of chaos, I don't see blightown frame rate issues, I don't see lock on issues, all I see is a perfect gaming experience. That is how I define a perfect game.

    this. Demon's Souls is actually very challenging. Skyrim is great - no doubt, but it gets ridiculously easy as you level up and find the right equipment.
    Here, you could be soul level 50 with good weapons and still have quite a challenging and fun experience.

  • @Indarionnnnne

    Being in soul form for the game is the smart way to go since if you have a ring it boosts ur health back up to 75% or around there and if u die it doesnt effect ur soul tendency and no players can join your game :)

    @Richieb75 Cool...i only have heavy rain, uncharted 2, gow collection, and soon god of war 3, and off course demons souls. I do want to buy resistance 2 though, and i`ll buy the 3rd one when that comes out.
    I`m also planing on buying KZ3 next month (or whenever my mom can afford it....i`m only 15 ) =P
    And is team fortress good for the PS3? I used to own it on my 360...but i sold it wich i regret, so i want to buy it again, and i might just buy it for the PS3 =)

  • @TheDevilBurning
    @TheDevilBurning 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @LiamNeesonsDick i can also completely concur with LND.... I put nearly 250 hours into the game and there's plenty of story and tricks to make the game much more easier than people make it out to be... not to mention you emphasize that dying is a bad thing... there are items that increase your damage when your life is decreased, and in order to avoid being invaded (online you need to be in soul form. dying in living form moves world tendency towards black making enemies tougher and you weaker.

    This was my pick for game of the year in 2009 and my favorite ps3 game. I enjoyed this even more than uncharted 2 simply because of its innovations and satisfying gameplay. The way singleplayer and multiplayer are intertwined are just fantastic, one of the major reasons i enjoyed it. Be warned, this game is not for those who get frustrated easily. I also encountered more pvp players joining my games last year when I was alive than zeitgeist (at least a few in an hour during second half)

    @PKDeviluke25 While fighting flame lurker, I actually got him to go behind an object and I stood on the other side and was able to spear him to death lol. Man Eater was the boss that took me 8 hours to defeat. I had to resort to cheating to beat him... Shooting him with a bow through the fog. I figured after 8 hours, it was acceptable.

    I think one of the big things about this game is mood, so keep the volume up. I was paranoid through the whole experience.
    I played pretty aggressive and with far more levels into attack power abilities than defensive ( except endurance to be fair ). It took me about 20 hours to beat on my first play through. But as has been said you screw up and you're smear on the ground, even basic enemies when relatively outnumbered can be the death of you, but it's because I ( you ) made a mistake.

What you meant to say was, "My opinion is different from yours in these regards..."
