In criticizing the retreading needed to return to your bloodstain, there was no mention of the ingenious level design that includes shortcuts which can be opened up through hard-won progress and utilized for more convenient future trips.
This is the best game I've played in years. While some will be turned off by the extreme challenge, others (like me) will take joy in finding themselves working hard at a game for the first time in ages.
John Guzzi you have beaten dark souls, try this one it is demanding but not like Dark Souls. And because it is more like level based and not open interconnected world, unlike Dark Souls, the Framerate is more stable. There is no Blighttown Framerate problems in it.
@lugorifm if you press R3 (the right analog stick) you´ll lock on to the nearest enemy, enabling circle strafe and whatnot. to cast magic you´ll need a wand equipped, there´s one in 1-2
This game isn't out in the UK, so I've pre-ordered it. Just two questions: 1. If I'm playing the normal game mode, do other people interact with my world? (Let's say I am signed in PSN) 2. Do invasions and other online features get annoying, disrupting my game constantly?
I think some of the complaints about the backtracking are unfair. There is a portal back to the Nexus - the shard of archstone. Also the levels are designed in such a manner that you open shortcuts as you go through. It's not as though you have to do the whole level again if you die to a boss.
Red Eye black skeleton is easy to read. You only get 1 hit K.O if you are directly in front of him when he jump slice you. Side step and he'll either miss or you block it. Reading the enemy will help out a lot.
Great review. One thing I noticed wrong you said is that there is a spell that does let you go back to the nexus. It's fricken expensive though and there is no way to get back to the point that you teleported from other than to start the level over (obviously) but this is normal in Demon's Souls. This game is awesome.
@disturbed9411 There's also some useful level design to facilitate a quick return to certain locations. Boletaria castle has several gates that, once opened, stay open, allowing swifter returns. Similarly, there are lifts in StoneFang (and a daring mine shaft to drop down), gates and switches in Latria and bridges in the Valley of Defilement.
Essentially the only things that are different between starting classes is their starting gear, spells/miracles and starting stats (which determine your soul level, which is simply a gauge of how strong you are.) So for instance, A knight class is going to be heavily armored with a sword and shield and will have higher strength and endurance vs a mage who will start with lighter gear, a catalyst to cast spells and higher intelligence and magic. Hope that helped :)
@bennythepenny9 What do you mean there is no difficulty Level? Its a very hard game that gets easier the more you play it, the fact is once you beat the game you start an NG+ game (which is alot more harder) with the character you used to beat the game. I beat it with alot of difficulty my first play through, and Then I beat it while having a much easier time while playing with a new character. Only now with the new character I'm attempting to beat NG+ which proved much harder.
The difficulty can't be changed in demon's souls, but I don't think it's fair to compare the two games. Demon's souls has a lot more in common with Ninja Gaiden than with Dragon age, for instance...
Haha bro I am past the Tower Knight archstone you know the place with the fog that says you have to kill an archdemon? There and it's decently harder. Does that mean I'm close to Doran?
u mean old king doran. u have to get the key and remember the knight with red eye in the first level there is door in the right side and old king doran is there but u cant open it until u get the key .
@Denu85 i will, i consider myself as a hardcore gamer. i like challenges. the bad thing is that i live in sweden, and to get the game you have to import it or buy it at some shops that import games. and i want the deluxe edition :( which nobody has, and if they do, it costs like 120 bucks.
there were a few things the guy messed up...when you die you don't go back to the nexus but instead the beginning of the level right after the previous levels boss for later levels or the very beginning of the stage in the first level and yes there are things that can transport you to the nexus like the evacuate spell, shards of the archstone, and the nexial binding but if he meant the archstone instead of the nexus then there is no way to go to the beginning without backtracking or dying.
Is this a freakin awesome game? Cos I'm thinking of getting it, but my local shops here in Australia does NOT have ONE copy of the game. It's frustrating!!!!
@SnugOFP Gonna disagree. I've been playing it for the last 3 weeks and can't get enough of it. I'm at the False King, but haven't beat him yet. The controls feel great to me, but targeting has got me killed a few times, due to the sensitivty of being able to jump from one target to another, but not meaning too. The game is a challenge, but it's so satisfying accomplishing tasks. And when you make it to a boss and die, the game is setup so theres usually shortcuts back. Cant wait for Dark Souls
Great video review, I enjoyed your breakdown of the different components of this game. One question about "invading" another person's game. What happens to you or your human opponent when either of you die? It seems like this could lead to people with much better equipment simply griefing others.
Well i've been playing DS for a week, beat it in 40 hours, NG+ is kinda challenging, but it's all the same again a bit harder. The mobs have the same attack patterns and they become really predictable after a while... It IS a great game but I'm really starting to wonder about the replay value other then the soul grind, just a bit new stuff with tendencies and items in NG+... Am i missing a point ? I keep asking myself the same question while replaying it : "ok, then what?"
How high can u level up cuz on fallout 3 wen i got to lvl 20 and could go no further i was kinda disapointed( still one of the greatest games of all times) lvl 50 or 100 would be good
It's online as long as you're signed into to PSN, but I think to get more out of it you have to beat the game and get certain crystal things that let you interact more with other people. Idon't have it myself yet.. really want it, but thats about all I got out of it in terms of the online play.
thats an awesome feature in the game and is what sets it apart from other games he also said that the game is always online when in fact if your the kind of person who doesnt want to have the online features in his game(i dont know why you would its one of the highlights of the game) he just simply doesnt sign onto the server in the beginning menu
I often find myself going right back as well. I really want everyone to play this game and give it a chance, hell one level&boss playthrough feels like a whole entire game in itself.
@southpaw8123 I never said anything about the gameplay being the same. I was comparing the difficulty of the***** PC (NOT THE CONSOLE) version***** of Dragon Age pre-patched to demon's souls.
@whitestar111 a realy easy way to beat him (cheap but gotta take advantage of anything) is get a catalyst and soul arrow. when you have that in the boss take a adventage point were you can easily shoot him in the head with soul arrow and you can evade his long range attack like the staircase that leaves you to the top
@Katakuna51 dammit, i was hoping PS3 would keep this PS3 exclusive, now we gotta wait another 6 months before it comes out due to the layout on 360, it's like Final Fantasy 13 all over again -.-
RE samsam24242.The game is saying one (or more) of your character statistics is less than the item statistics.Example-if your character's strength is 20 and the item's required strength is 30 then you will not be able to wield it until your character reaches a strength statistic of 30.Compare both character and item stats.
U can play it offline just fine, u wont get as much help as in online but u won't be bothered by invaders. U will see some notes and red phantoms while offline but they are NPCs. If you're online and somebody invades you, you will get a red message that u are invaded, same goes if you invade. The players u will fight will be of your same level or so (+/-). As for the pause, quit the game from your PS3 and enter again when you're done at the same position u logged off. It works for me till now.
To get the item to allow you to fight another player u need to kill a black phantom yourself (either another player that enters your world or an npc black phantom). But someone can only enter your world to fight you if you are in body form (you are not usually in body form because of the amount of times you die!). Also for someone to join you they need to be within 10 levels of you. If you get really annoyed at ppl attacking you all the time in body form though, you can always play offline!
@disturbed9411 But, unlike Scrolls of Town Portal that will allow you to return to your original location, Shards of Archstone are a one-way ticket back to the Nexus.
Anyone knows if i, who imported this game from america , will be able to play this game with my friend ,who will buy it as soon as its released in europe? So are the american and europe people able to play together soon? (sorry for my shitty english)
@CrippledKnight If you enjoy dungeon crawlers than this game is right for you. It isn't "plotless" its just not too attached to its plot, and it isn't super detailed. It still has a storyline, just not as in depth and captivating than other games like it. Although, Demon's Souls definitely makes up for it with its smooth control/gameplay mechanics, its numerous spells/magic, the variety of weapons and armor, its innovative multiplayer system, and its one of a kind replay value.
I got this game yesterday and i can tell, its AWESOME. Im not sure about the online part, but indeed i believe lots of people do, once it´s a diff system than the other online rpgs ppl are used to. If not many play now, soon will start lots. About the graphics, the graphics are great. Movements, light effects, everything feels just like they should. This game is totally definitly AMAZING.
That's what I thought before I bought it. I can tell you though, this game has one of the most satisfying combat systems I have ever played. Everything just feels like it has weight, and oozes realism. If you can, try it or rent it to get a feel for it. It really is a fantastic game.
@shadowsergil The game is really difficult. The first time you enter 1-1 you will die loads of times, but each time you die you will feel compelled to improve and make it further in the level. However, most of the bosses, if you bring enough food are not as challenging as the reviews make it seem, though there are bosses, such as the flamelurker that are extremely challenging, though once you find its weakness and defeat it, you get a huge sense of accomplishment.
In criticizing the retreading needed to return to your bloodstain, there was no mention of the ingenious level design that includes shortcuts which can be opened up through hard-won progress and utilized for more convenient future trips.
This is the best game I've played in years. While some will be turned off by the extreme challenge, others (like me) will take joy in finding themselves working hard at a game for the first time in ages.
hope you’re well! how are you? what did you think of sekiro
Starting level: "Pssh, this game is so easy!"
-Went to a magical golden door-
A gigantic demon appears and killed me in one swing.
This was the best game I played last year. I didn't expect it to be nearly as good as it was.
hands up UK people, WHO HAS GOT THEIR DEMONS SOULS?
I am lol
Theres also a miracle spell called evacuate that you can get pretty early on that ports you back to the nexus and lets you keep all the souls
Having played Dark Souls 1 & 2 I am sold on playing this game.
I was too and I have no regrets almost finished it is incredible
John Guzzi you have beaten dark souls, try this one it is demanding but not like Dark Souls. And because it is more like level based and not open interconnected world, unlike Dark Souls, the Framerate is more stable.
There is no Blighttown Framerate problems in it.
A remake is coming out for PS5
@lugorifm
if you press R3 (the right analog stick) you´ll lock on to the nearest enemy, enabling circle strafe and whatnot.
to cast magic you´ll need a wand equipped, there´s one in 1-2
@Viper900100 he got the tailsman from the valley of defliment and I forgot were he got the falchion.
This game isn't out in the UK, so I've pre-ordered it.
Just two questions:
1. If I'm playing the normal game mode, do other people interact with my world? (Let's say I am signed in PSN)
2. Do invasions and other online features get annoying, disrupting my game constantly?
u can only use it in certain areas like midway through some of the dungeons then ur allowed too
I think some of the complaints about the backtracking are unfair. There is a portal back to the Nexus - the shard of archstone. Also the levels are designed in such a manner that you open shortcuts as you go through. It's not as though you have to do the whole level again if you die to a boss.

No return to town scroll? What about the Shards of the Archstone?
seems like this game is very cool... but i dont have much free time.. does it still worth to play it tho? how much time do u need to finish it?
@disturbed9411
There's also some useful level design to facilitate a quick return to certain locations. Boletaria castle has several gates that, once opened, stay open, allowing swifter returns. Similarly, there are lifts in StoneFang (and a daring mine shaft to drop down), gates and switches in Latria and bridges in the Valley of Defilement.
Haven't played this or the new Dark Souls. Can i jump right into the new one or is it better to start with Demon Souls?
@SLIMPLAYSTATION which one is better? I'm torn between which one to get!
Essentially the only things that are different between starting classes is their starting gear, spells/miracles and starting stats (which determine your soul level, which is simply a gauge of how strong you are.)

Hope that helped :)
@samlun777 What's your soul level? If we have a similar soul level, I can help you out as a blue phantom. I'm at 130 or 135 .
@samlun777 youve been playing since then or just forgot about it?
@bennythepenny9 What do you mean there is no difficulty Level? Its a very hard game that gets easier the more you play it, the fact is once you beat the game you start an NG+ game (which is alot more harder) with the character you used to beat the game.

@Cyral189 Can you see blood stains and notes if you're in spirit form?
PLz can you How hard is this game? I just have bought PS3 and Im really curious about this game,,,Advice pls FFXIII or Demon's Soul?
which type of character would be better to begin?
The difficulty can't be changed in demon's souls, but I don't think it's fair to compare the two games. Demon's souls has a lot more in common with Ninja Gaiden than with Dragon age, for instance...
Amazing review! I just discovered your site thanks to Demon's Souls, you guys rock!
if you dont die but while your in the game quit will you still have to start the level over or will it pick up where you left off
Haha bro I am past the Tower Knight archstone you know the place with the fog that says you have to kill an archdemon? There and it's decently harder. Does that mean I'm close to Doran?
How do you get those swords man? I have searched every damn archstone and nothing! ^^
difficulty can be changed in demons souls just not by an option in a menu
u mean old king doran. u have to get the key and remember the knight with red eye in the first level there is door in the right side and old king doran is there but u cant open it until u get the key .
You can only invade if you have a special item that is a rare drop.
i wanna get this.. but one question: if u die, do u also lose ur soul level?
@GpB217 are you talking about that vinland dude
I'm getting this tomorrow, any tips?
@samlun777 finish the main game? or get platinum?
@Denu85
i will, i consider myself as a hardcore gamer. i like challenges. the bad thing is that i live in sweden, and to get the game you have to import it or buy it at some shops that import games.

the info is wrong the is a "town portal" scroll call arcstone pieces that allow u to instantly teleport to the nexus

should i get this game or dragon age origions?
@whitestar111 old monk online i mean in what other game can you fight another player asa boss
You just need to attack him with magic endowed weapons. He has a really standard pattern that you can learn pretty easily.
@MrFinalgamer thx man who was ur fave boss
How high can u level up cuz on fallout 3 wen i got to lvl 20 and could go no further i was kinda disapointed( still one of the greatest games of all times) lvl 50 or 100 would be good
Which is better this or Dragon's Age origins?
out on the 6 october and no PS3 only
Hey! Does anyone knows what the deluxe (US) version has over the normal one?
@ ShawnWAX and Spineblade, thx for your time. im getting it soon
is this game like oblivion?
Where you can level up and get better armor?
It's online as long as you're signed into to PSN, but I think to get more out of it you have to beat the game and get certain crystal things that let you interact more with other people. Idon't have it myself yet.. really want it, but thats about all I got out of it in terms of the online play.
@wrestler375 upgrade the crescent falchion at shrine of storms to 3 to 4(1-2 works as well just that 3-4 makes it easier)
thats an awesome feature in the game and is what sets it apart from other games he also said that the game is always online when in fact if your the kind of person who doesnt want to have the online features in his game(i dont know why you would its one of the highlights of the game) he just simply doesnt sign onto the server in the beginning menu

Great review and the Dragon God is freaking huge. Looks like a pain to take down but satisfying nonetheless.
Is this game worth getting i love rpg's but with the difficulty i dont know if everyone around me wants to hear me scream

is this a open world RPG game or no?
worth buying?
i dunno if i should get this or borderlance
2024 checking in
if you die and lose all ur souls does that mean all the leveling up u did is gone?
@rapboyjeremy oh yeah, check out Mystic Defender for the Sega Genesis.. or some of the Shinobi titles. i recommend the Kega Fusion emulator.
damn that cloud style sword makes me wanna play even more
what weapon is that at 1:52 ?
@rorhg0 It's not the final boss... Not by a long shot.
@JeusDante yes you fight the dragon in the cave, no its not the old one, and the ending of the game is great.
@games4890 yea theres 3 male only and 4 female only but the dest armor can be used by any1
i wanna know how this guy got a talisman of god and a falchion before he beat flamelurker
@AutoJew 1) yes
2)nope invasions only happen occasionally not all the time.
@USBTRYHARD Oh yeah right, I forgot to put the "tell me" phrase into my sentence..haha
So getting this game. Just saw the deluxe edition unboxing. Amazing package.
@disturbed9411
But, unlike Scrolls of Town Portal that will allow you to return to your original location, Shards of Archstone are a one-way ticket back to the Nexus.
why are you killing stockpile thomas :(
@SyphonFilterr
With the event, its black or near pure black by default XD
9th playthrough and even those little zombie guys at the start hurt
wierd glitch...In the beginning it never says to the nexus...It only says i shall guide you...
Anyone knows if i, who imported this game from america , will be able to play this game with my friend ,who will buy it as soon as its released in europe? So are the american and europe people able to play together soon?
(sorry for my shitty english)
This is only for PS3 right?
There IS a spell called evacuate that WILL teleport you directly back to the nexus. There are also disposable items.
Splinter of Keystone (I think) will teleport you back to the nexus, or use the evacuate spell
@deepdark876
agreed. on the second playthrough, you are experienced enough to make the game quite easy. it was like that for me in fact.
@Denver1928 top tip: don't sprint in the dungeons or you will get severely pissed off
@CrippledKnight If you enjoy dungeon crawlers than this game is right for you. It isn't "plotless" its just not too attached to its plot, and it isn't super detailed. Love it! Awesome review!
That's what I thought before I bought it. I can tell you though, this game has one of the most satisfying combat systems I have ever played. Everything just feels like it has weight, and oozes realism. If you can, try it or rent it to get a feel for it. It really is a fantastic game.
Is the game really that difficult.
@shadowsergil The game is really difficult. The first time you enter 1-1 you will die loads of times, but each time you die you will feel compelled to improve and make it further in the level. This game has the most epic chorus that has ever been in a game. There is just no better chorus in video game music.
