Would you recommend also measuring the current draw on the motor? Mine runs on 10 amps at start up then settles to 6 amps. If I ever see say 12+ amps then I know that the resistance is to high & blower is failing. Also the smell thru the vents is another sure give away. Buying that h/h socket tool next! Home Depot now carries motors, ignitor, etc on-line.
Good video. But you need to clarify that this all relates to the traditional PSC (permanent split capacitor) motors, not the newer high efficiency motors -- ECM (electronically commutated motor)/BLDC (brushless DC motor) -- which have quite a different setup and diagnosis procedures.
Bad capacitors are very common. You can also test by spinning the fan by hand. If it fires up after the spin, your capacitor is bad. It's a simple, five second, test.
You should have included the case when the fan keeps running without calling for heat or ac but the motor still needs to be replaced. This issue happens due to bad thermistor for inrush current limiting or the control board inside the motor.
When you're measuring the capacitor, you want the -|(- symbol. The ->|- symbol is for measuring diodes. On your meter, you'd have to press the yellow button to measure diodes, which is why that symbol is yellow.
@@Microfrost a cap can read good and still be bad .some even read a little higher than stated value in uF a over achiever if you will . Unless you can read the ESR and voltage test it you can be fooled .
I have a intertherm furnace in a mobile home the furnace will run for about 5 minutes then the blower will shut off for about a minute then turn back on any idea what could be causing this furnace is still heating thanks
i have a mid-efficiency lennox furnace with variable speed blower motor whose bearings are failing. Replacement blower motor is between $500-1000. Can a single speed motor be dropped in instead?
Yea that’s probably you sheet metal duct work getting sucked in. You’d need to duplicate it and feel around to see if you can track it down. I’ve also seen the blower wheel come partially detached so the middle portion would spin for a moment and then the fan wheel that it’s attached to. I’ve also seen that whole middle piece come unattached and it makes the most aweful racket you’ve ever heard haha Hope this helps!
Repairclinic.con Or Amazon or eBay if you get the part number off the side of the old motor 👍🏼 But repairclinic you can just punch in your model number of the furnace and it will give you a parts list of common replacement components for your furnace 👍🏼
You find find them on U.S motors mine was a u.s.motor i ordered online from a hvac store amazon wanted more just make sure everything matches the label like the volts amps HP RPM i matched my condenser motor using the model number on the motor.
Dude, you are so awesome. Thanks for sharing the knowledge.
Very informative and instructive 😊 Thanks.
Excellent tutorial
Love your videos so much...
Thanks

Good stuff my brother
excellent tutorial video
Great video 👍

Unless you spend it the wrong direction as a homeowner. Lol
This is helpful...as i need to clean my squirrelcage, I thought you had to also disconnect a few wires from the board to be able to remove the cage?
Yes
Sometimes cleaning the cage causes it to come "out of balance" causing other issues. Be careful if cleaning.
Unless the person who was there before you used an impact driver on the self-tapping bolts and you have to try to force a saw under the mount.

Should you be pulling the wires out by grabbing the wire rather than the spade plug? Seems like you could pull the wire out of the spade plug.
I like making sure the joint is solid haha
Is there a high-efficiency motor that could be used as a replacement? If so, would it be worth the expense
Hi you mean a energy star motor iv been looking and cant find one.
I think he means ecm motor...

Its also for cap measuring not all meters have that so you got to check before buying.

Is there any reason why My grandpas Furnace is turning on but Air conditioner is not running and pumping r22
Bad capacitor in outdoor unit
Bad compressor
If I was a diy,Id probly try the 10 dollar part !
Many possibilities. I’d check wiring and power first .

Unfortunately no. I’d just use repairclinic.com to find the exact motor and then find the cheapest priced exact replacement

What about the capacitor
You didn’t watch the whole video clearly 🤣
20 uF = 20 microFarad
I thought the blue wire on the transformer was the common not 24 volts might want to clarify this
Easier way is to pull one side of low voltage limit switch, blower should come on.
Power still has to come from the control board though but yes that’s a good place to start!
Where can a homeowner get a new blower motor?
Amazon of course
