I love my 13’. The “old school” gauges and just the right amount of screen with the tiny one in between the gauges. Definitely never selling it. Dream one day is to drop a 5.8 from a 500 in it with a Tremec.
Yes oil catch can definitely work I put one on my 04 mustang gt and my 14 mustang gt and they both smooth out: oil vapor tell the computer to add more fuel. And every time I change the oil and filter the catch can has about 3 ounces of oil that would have went into the intake manifold to be burned
I have a 2013 6r80 in candy red, Lund tune, Cai and full exhaust, bought it at 70k miles bone stock and now has 100k. Still runs great. Thanks for the info and I may go follow your build and see which power adder you go with.
When I got my brembo 13 it was so floaty and shitty. Springs and some tighter shocks made a huge huge difference. good looking car Alex, thanks for the videos
Ford Performance makes a nice oil separator for the passenger side, which seems to see the most oil for some reason. It's not cheap, but it looks factory, includes everything you need, and can be install in 15 minutes. You can get it from AM, Summit, Steeda, and probably other online retailers. They may make a driver's side unit, but I have seen some videos where owners claim that it doesn't really see that much oil, at least in the case of an NA engine.
great video, like its 2011-2014 all over again except we have a better understanding of these cars. I might need to pick up a 6r80 gen 1 to cruiser around in.
When I bought my 2012 GT with 30k miles about 2 months later I got the ABS light with AdvanceTrac message. It turned out to be the ABS pump. It was about $1300 at ford but I had extended warranty.
I have two oil catch cans on my turbo genesis coupe the valve cover pulls oil out and goes into the intake the compressor housing the intercooler pipes and intercooler core. The pcv side goes into the intake manifold.
Alex check out the sealed catch can from Watson Racing. It connects to both sides and has a third connection to route the vent where you want. Make sure to look at sealed unit not one with vent as the cap. I have it and love it.
I got a brand new engine from ford in my 2015 mustang GT and the first thing I did was immediately put a ford racing catch can. The amount of gunk it picks up is crazy
If you live in a hot state be aware the AC compressor (clutch hub) failure rate on the 11-12 5.0 is Big. I replaced 3 hubs before the compressor itself failed.
Hey Alex, that service advance trac issue might be related to a burnt wiring harness on/near the passenger side rear axle. The harness gets too close to the over axle pipes and sometimes melts/ gets crispy near the connector for the wheel speed sensor. Worth checking out. Great content as always!
Looking forward to the catch can install especially if you remote mount it in the rear. Also interested to see which one you go with, there seems to be some in every price category. Great video.
Btw this year they made catch cans legal in California I used to have to fail them for smog under modified pcv But they just passed a law for them Open air breathers will fail Only closed line catch cans
I got the same stock car, planning to install a catch can after watching this video. What is the most safe method to clean the intake chambers out of builtup carbon?
I like S197 Ford’s 👍 Most dealers just use one grade fuel but nice they fill it up even though for those like us we would prefer 91-93 or cash off but dealer only have one tank of 87 usually.
What ventilated catch cans do you recommend? for roush supercharged gen 2 and NA as well. Having a hard time finding anything besides not ventilated and not GayLT.
Hey Alex, new subscriber here. I test drove a higher mileage (160k) s197 the other day, under hard acceleration there was quite a bit of bluish black smoke coming from the exhaust and the smell of oil burning. The seller isn’t asking much ($10k) due to this and I’m wanting a car to build solely for street/strip so I don’t want a pristine car. What’s the likelihood plugs are crap and the pcv system is crap, so intake is full of oil and carbon causing the smoking? I’m more worried about worn rings or serious mechanical damage causing this. Is there a good chance a catch can install, intake and t/b clean along with intake and fuel system cleaner/treatment and fresh plugs could clear this girl up? I’m thinking about it and I’ve driven a handful of stock Coyotes (few S197’s and S550’s) and this thing didn’t feel a bit different from any other in terms of power (based off my butt dyno anyways 😂) Just smoking quite a bit under hard acceleration. I’m thinking that there could be an excessive amount of oil built up in the intake, and some crap built up in the cats causing this smoking. Any input would be GREATLY appreciated.
Hey Alex, why would you choose a twin catch can setup over just running breathers? Serious question. I’ve seen both and wanted to known when to do one or the other
I also have a 2014 gt sterling grey but mt82, lost the trans at 90k something miles but got a full rebuild fly wheel/ clutch etc car has been so fun to drive ever since no problems at all besides gas😭
Im having an issue with the arm rests bowing up on the doors in my S197, is there anyway you’ve seen people do to fix it or would you have to get a new panel for the door?
I remember my Gen 1 thinking under the engine bay was complicated... then I see BMW's Audis and Gen 3 Coyotes.... no thank you. Gen 1 and Gen 2 are simple. If you wanted to know... Code of Federal Regulations Citations 40 CFR Part 59 Subpart C states the requirements for Volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions standards and is the reason why we cannot have a catch can, basically introducing more connections can result in more leaks which if unchecked is bad for the atmosphere.
Ha, Herlong chevy is up by me. Like 20 mins. Are you suspect this car to be flood car? Super dirty, yet super clean in some spots. ABS or other electronic faults?
Whats your opinion on catch cans vs breather filters? Im running a catch can on the passenger side and my intake mani (18+ conversion) and valve ports were still noticeably covered in oil/carbon. Wouldnt breathers just eliminate the problem altogether?
Question I have a 2019 mustang gt. I want to run 91 most of the time, and then on a few occasions I would like to run e85. Then I would like to go from e85 back to 91. Would I be able to do this with a flex fuel tune? From my understanding, when I switch from 91 to e85 I would have to flash the flex fuel tune. Then once the e85 is learned after a day or two, I would have to switch to the e85r tune. Is this correct? And if I wanted to switch from e85 back to 91, would i flash the flex fuel tune, wait a little bit then switch it over to the 91 tune? SOMEONE PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THIS IS RIGHT
I had a question about cylinder head temp. I have the mishimoto 160 stat but I’ve seen my head temps get to 220+ cruising and in town even in cold weather. It does go back down when driving but Should I go back to stock stat or maybe stat can be getting stuck even tho it’s aftermarket?
Can anyone tell me what you do with that fitting he unplugged at 8:40? Do you cap it? I get running hoses off each valve cover to a vented catch can, just confused here. Thank you

As an s197 owner I look forward to each and every video on this. See you tonight on your live at 8:00 on this channel!
Same here
Makin me want an s197. They look so good
Same bro , it’s like last year to finance one too might just do it 😂
Me too man lost my 2012 gt 5.0 6spd to a woman🤦🏼♂️ never again……miss it everyday 😢 gotta get another one
Do it bro. Might be tough to find a reasonably priced one. I got mine in 2019 for $18.9K with 50k miles.
@@chrisstephenson8311 I'm sorry man. My condolences 😞💐

Just bought a low mileage 14 with an auto. This series is appreciated.
That Gen 1 looks so good under the hood. The Gen 3 has way too much shit going on under the hood.
I love this guys humor lol. I’ll be watching every video about this car. 👌
😂😂 the old yolo engine cover ripping off clip had me dying
Can we take a moment to appreciate the Milwaukee tools
One of your best what to look for and how-to videos on a used S197!!!
Love the s197 really glad your doing this and the 6r80 is great
If you hold plus while in drive it should display gears
Great video! Bought a 13 track pack last year and your content has been teaching me tons. Will be getting into boost soon :)

That’s why California is a shit hole

Hey Alex great video! Question what spark plugs should I go with if I’m thinking on going fbo e85 later in the future? Thanks.
That thing seems like it was babied in its previous life. I would interested to see you perform a compression test on the engine, I bet its perfect
I could see wanting gear display for roll racing maybe. All I care is it downshifts to a happy gear if I floor it.

do valve cover breathers on the oil fill cap help ventilate crankcase pressure or just on the pcv?
