Playing it since release on the switch and love it. Plus: The developer helps on his discord server very fast (also the community there). I so recommend the game.
This seems a lot closer to New Leaf than New Horizons. Which I like, as I personally think New Leaf was the better AC game. New Horizons added the ability to decorate outside, which was great, but boy did it cost a lot...
You can get the fishing as soon as you unlock the stairs recipe. There’s a trail up on that elevated level and you go to the left and clean up the pond to get the fishing rod. After you clean up the pond you exit to the right, talk to the bear, and then go back to the pond and you’ll get the recipe for it
spoilers* just in case- I really like this game. I’m a huge fan of AC but got burned out and this game really does it for me.🥰 I started playing two days ago and haven’t been able to put it down lol. I find that it does have a structure tho. At first there is definitely a sequence kind of like a tutorial but doesn’t really feel like one. The fact that you have to unlock things thru the merit badges is just a way to let you know all you have to do is play the game and eventually you will discover things that make it better. Like sprinting, a larger inventory, a donation box that’s really useful (I found tons of iron that is really hard to get in the mines), a clothing store, a little character that drives you to a secret island where you meet a character who collects archelogical finds and you can find those with a metal detector, a way to use the train to go to the city and shop for seasonal items (I’m into Halloween) as well as the creators shop where you can find amazing creations for free, farming, fishing and I’m sure there is tons of things i haven’t discovered yet. You can decorate all the houses in and out. Move villagers furniture and houses, sell it for money or just reorganize everything. You can move almost everything around the town too and decorate that as well. Lamp posts, fences, trash cans, etc. There are events like fishing and catching bugs too. And ofc there is the creation feature to create almost anything (having a hard time with that one lol. Is not so easy but I’m sure I’ll get a hang of it with time) I do feel we do have our little way to choose villagers. Make sure to always visit the Inn in the hours posted outside. A villager will always appear and after talking to them you get to invite them to live in the town. You can easily evict and move in villagers instantly (I love that) also you meet NPCs in the inn so make sure to visit daily (to open shop, farming, etc) I understand we all have different tastes when it comes to games but if you like animal crossing, story of seasons or stardew valley then you will love this one. I feel this game for being an indi game created by a small company is impressive and for that price.. is a must buy. 🥰
Similar feature of ACNH, but gives more freedom. Do you want remove music? Do you want craft many items at a time? Do you want to send a villager to find some materials for you? Do you want ask to a villager to follow you, so you dont have to search for him after completing his task? This are some of the features that Hokko Life has.
I actually like that you have to earn perks like sprinting! Can you customize the outside of villager houses also? What are your thoughts 6 days after your initial review?
I did not, but if a game doesn't give it to me in 5+ hours who wants to play that far for only those features? The game has to be good right from the start and it wasn't really worth it to me to play for only those mechanics
@@peppage I got it within that time frame. Did you unlock the upper mountain area and build the simple bridge to get access to the pond and Derris??? After you move in Rosa's first resident you get the stairs design and get access to that upper area.
@@peppage so was the bear just not in the upper left pond area? Because once you access that area with a bridge and leave it, he'll start a cutscene to talk to you and give you the fishing rod recipe. But so far there does seem to be some glitches and bugs that are stopping people's progress. It's definitely a work in progress still.
I'm stuck on tasks here! Playing on Xbox. How do you build the stairs? Also there's never anybody at the Inn but the elephant says people come at lunch and dinner. Wth ... Help!
For the stairs you get the blueprint through playing, Rosa will give it because more people move in. After the first house you build. Did you get the blueprint? If so try using the table in the back of the workshop. As for the inn, you have to visit between 11am and 2pm for lunch and 5pm and 9pm for dinner, I found a villager there every time.
Update: looks like it was a glitch in the game. Nothing was progressing. I started a new save slot and everything is running smoothly now. Got the stair blueprint and there's now people coming to the inn who want to move in.
I was surprised to find out it's out on switch, I had no idea. It seems like it was first put on pc for early access a few months ago! Time flies. I just bought it on switch today because I prefer playing in bed than at the desk. Out of curiosity..is the game up to date on switch? As in its content matches the current pc version? My time at portia took forever to catch up to the pc version and that sucked. Looking forward to playing it today anyways. 😀
It was released to Steam early access on 2 June 2021. On PC in the main menu there's a version id in the lower right corner, mine is 1.0.06_rel so if you have the same one they should be keeping them up to date.
@@peppage I thought it's kinda bummer everyone has male's clothes and no female bodies. I know the game is supposed to be genderless but it feels like ultimate sausagefest instead on the first glance.
It's actually really fun and New. And Nintendo left AC to die anyways no updates or dlc wich is terrible in this day of age gaming . So games like this is worth trying

wow the item building reminds of the system from MySims wayyyy back when
Wow, I completely forgot about this game. I can see why it reminds you, although I think the characters were more interesting in MySims

I cut down so many trees,planted again,made bridge,crossed over water fall,cleaned area,and then it unlocked,Fishing etc,
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I think I would have to restart from the beginning

"It's different from Animal Crossing" ** proceeds to explaining the same features from ACNH **
Fair, I could have been clearer and explain the difference right away
@@peppage sorry didn’t mean to sound rude. Great explanation tho, very thorough. It was just a matter of making the points cohesive I guess.

So it's what we all wanted from animal crossing to begin with. Sounds good.
Animal crossing: Not so new horizons
I unlocked fishing on my first day of playing.
Hello from Australia I just started playing this cool game & I love it so much. I just subscribed to your channel
Hey! Thanks 😁
I just bought it...5 seconds into the review. 😆 🤣
It will unfold bit by bit, play as you want,
I actually like that you have to earn perks like sprinting! Can you customize the outside of villager houses also? What are your thoughts 6 days after your initial review?
You can customize whatever you want, their house is yours to do with as you please.
How big is the map compared to animal crossing?
So did u not end up doing the fishing and farming gameplay? Not trying to be rude, but if u did not play those things how can u review the game?
He didn’t have access to those features.

such a cute & fun game
This game seems nice... if Animal Crossing didn't exist.
So basically a better animal crossing that pisses off toxic gamers? My cup of tea!
I never understand, why are people getting pissed off at this game?
@@peppage The amount of hate in the comments I saw, especially about racial and LGBTQ+ stuff actually disturbed me.

I heard some players mention that the villagers look creepy. It's like they are wearing animal masks😄

So... all your neighbours are only dudes? No females at all? Talk about let down...
I'm not sure the game really dives into what their genders are. But if you wanted to gender them by name there's a Lilly, Ruby, and others.
