I agree that the dance battles feel boring/underwhelming. there just doesn't seem to be much strategy involved in them. debuffs are super powerful and feel pretty imbalanced. the game itself is pretty fun, though, especially if you like quirky characters!

Yeah definitely, I was winning all my battles with fluster

When I first heard about this game in 2017, still a Double Fine game and before the Epic fiasco, I recall the developer touting how the dance battle portion of the game was its defining feature and how much work was going into the animation, so I'm disappointed to see how little dance animation there really is in the game five years later. While I get that this (genre check) "cozy life sim" doesn't need to be what it was marketed as years ago, it's a bummer that the primary mechanic doesn't seem to have a great deal of depth. By contrast, when watching, I was reminded of the criminally overlooked, though perhaps understandably so, Floor Kids, still my favorite, and delightfully animated, dance game.

I didn't know they hyped the dancing so much. The animations are seriously lacking, all kinda the same and don't matter. But I guess if it's 35 points to win you don't want to have long dance animations when really it's about the cards. It feels like a lot of people were disappointing with this Ooblets for all kinds of reasons.

@@peppage I think there's always a danger in promoting a product well before the game loop and structure have been finalized, too many opportunities to dash expectations of an otherwise competent game.
