The Audi a4 is smaller and has a seriously uncomfortable driving position, over priced and overrated. Passat gives excellent value for money, looks different to generic Audi.
vw are crap, since they were brought by fiat the quality has gone down hill. the French are terrible at making cars. even the best selling french company (alfa romeo) are rubbish. your better of buying a German car like kia or lexus.

The dimensions of the Passat are the exact dimensions. Neither too big nor too small.

I don't think the Passat has what it takes to fight off Audi and BMW. The Golf is where the true VW vibe is at!
