2015 VW Passat TDI with 219000 km with no problems yet. I put between over 30000km on it last year. And still going strong. I drive it from Canada to the USA almost every month. And current get about 1300 km out of the tank. Surprisingly, today when I filled up, diesel was actually cheaper than gas. But I have no complaints. Have now installed a set of coilovers, dropped 2 inches, and a set of 19 inch wheels from a Audi s4, running 245/40r19 tires. Looks decent and runs well.

Well lucky you my 2018 has been in the shop over 5 times concerning epc lights and now its in the shop because dealer says its normal to eat 5 quarts of oil in 3000 miles and vw says a 2018 is a really old car

@@homerog4920 honestly, I rarely bring any cars to the shop. Lets say I only trust a few mechanics. I am not a mechanic but I love to tinker with cars and I invested in obd scanner that I can use for all the cars we own. Get the obd2 plug in with torque app. It saved me so many times from expensive car repairs and most of the solutions are so simple. Always start with a scanner.

@@smifnwess93 depends on your tire really. it’s fwd so it’s not the worst but my car will spin the tires if the road is even a little bit wet. these cars have a lot of torque so get some good winter tires and you should be fine. on the other hand just buy something awd

I put 30k miles a year on my 2016 Passat SEL Premium. I replaced the plugs at 105k. Two sets on Conti tires and at 111k, I am still on the original brakes. Zero issues so far, except for a lot of chipped paint on the front bumper.

I just got a 2014 model year with 83k miles. TDi. Paid $10k, which in 2023 is pretty cheap, considering how hard it is to find a lower mileage car under $15k. Very nice car, runs and drives well- right now at least. I’ve seen a mixed bag of opinions regarding reliability, anything I should do immediately for preventative measures? Want to make it last a long time!

My sister had a 2016 Passat. Had a misfire code at 65k miles. She hadn’t done the spark plugs yet so I just replaced all the coils and plugs all at once. In my experience when a VW eats a coil pack the other 3 are in their way out. If they get bad enough it can leave you stranded.

My 2015 Passat has a short in the radio causing the volume to go down on it's own and I was told that this is also why the tire sensor light stays on all of the time even though I've had the sensors checked multiple times. Another issue that I'm having is that the engine is all of a sudden burning a quart of oil in between oil changes, it started at around 115K miles and it now has 125K on it. I should also note that my Passat has the gas turbo engine.

    • @franciscoespinoza4418

My 2016 also does this. I looked up tsb’s and info on the engines and it is within specification for them to burn about 1/2 a quart of oil every 600 miles :/ I’ve run tests on it and it’s most likely worn piston rings

One tip on the 2017 VW Passat 1.8 turbo TSI. Try to always keep the fuel level past the middle of the gas gage. Try to always use 89 octane gas. To me it feels like the engine performs better. Seems like the 10% or more ethanol they unfortunately force you to use. Doesn't affect the performance with the 89 fill up. Compared to if you always use the same cheap ass 85 or 87 octane.

Hmmm. As far as problem #4 (visibility and small mirrors), I do this simple step: I look around and lean forward and aft when backing up. I don't rely on the camera. I also crane my neck to left or right depending which lane I want to change to. All joking aside, this car has plenty of window space and mirrors to make safe choices.

Backing camera stops working after battery went flat.
Here is how I solved it:
    1. Open the door and leave it open. (I had to use the physica key to get into the car and recharge the battery when it went flat.)
    2. Open the hood and disconnect the negative cable. I took the time to rub it clean with sandpaper and the pole too.
    3. Reconnect the battery cable.
    4. No point 4, the camera works as usual again.

Look I have a 2020 Passat and I have just reached my 5,000 mile mark and this issue is very very present still. I really get scared sometimes in the car especially when I’m trying to get on the highway after being completely stopped at a light I will have the pedal to the medal and I’ll barely be getting up to 50!!! Another issue is in town when I’m stopping at lights like rolling to a stop without pressing no gas no breaks the car literally chugs along or will have a weird embarrassing abrupt stop!! I been bitching about this to people and they think I’m crazy. So I may be crazy, but at least I know I’m not the only one that’s having the issue. Lol

YES! This is a huge problem, we've all experienced it but for whatever reason most won't speak of it, including the guy in this video. The DSG transmission takes what seems like an eternity to decide which gear to use and since everything is "fly by wire" you're dead in the water. VERY SCARY! This is not unique to the Passat, my TDI Sportwagen did it as well. You're not crazy Hailey Young, you're simply paying attention to your driving, bravo!

    • @ahsanmalik1013
      @ahsanmalik1013 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@goldenrod8861 For American specs Passat, it is torque converter regular Automatic 6 speed which is based on Aisin - same as available in all across Toyota models. And it is reliable and efficient. Even my Jetta comes with 6 speed Automatic transmission that is available in all across Passat models.
The only change is the engine that is toned down to miller cycle for efficiency and emission. And that may come with Auto start-stop that is enabled by default. There is some hesitation issues on Miller cycle 2 litre Turbo engine that is available in Passat and Tiguan [with 8 speed automatic].
That is why I leered my brother towards Atlas because it comes with gti 2 litre Turbo engine that doesn’t have miller cycle technology therefore no hesitation.
New engine 1.5 turbo engine derives from the miller cycle technology that may have been reported to have similar hesitation issues. I hear that has been sorted out.
I suggest Passat and Tiguan owners to check out for recall at dealership. Some have gotten improved acceleration due to software update on transmission. So check out at dealership for recall.

Do you mean the first iteration before facelift? They stopped producing the Passat here in America in 2022 so idk if there was ever a true unibody change along the 12-22 year models or if it was all just cosmetics and Wikipediafile doesn't express any info on this matter.

    1. smells like mildew everytime it rains and during car washes
    2. Have to add oil every 500 miles
    3. Brakes sound horrible in the mornings or after sitting for over 5 hours (original brakes, dealership & a couple of tire shops said nothing wrong with them, so I haven't replaced them)

    5. Had to replace the alternator at 98K miles (replaced 4 batteries since 2016)

Heater Core Flush works a little. Next. Frequent bulb changes. ASC, Airbag, & TPMS lights on on the time now.

I have a 2017 Passat the ac blows warm in drivers side only and a little cold on passenger side. I’ve never had issues with my car other then the normal wear and tear, it’s been a great car. I have a 2016 R-Line Passat and it has an issue with the brakes. I just replaced them and the are super “grabby”…..and by grabby I mean if I barely put my foot on the brake pedal to slow down they CLAMP DOWN HARD, kinda causing my passengers and I both to whiplash fwd in the seat. The second issue with the brakes is an internal (to the passenger compartment) noise when applying brakes for several seconds (like slowing down coming off the freeway)……thinking it could be vacuum leak? It is NOT a squeaky pedal that needs some WD40, rather it is a low gradual “honking noise” only heard inside the car with long gradual brake application, thoughts?

I had that engine shake and EPC light came on... shop said it was 'P020400' which I cannot find *anywhere* (P0204 is the injector circuit for cylinder 4 - an all makes/models, it seems) and they wanted to switch out the injector harness.
Any way to narrow this down? Does the entire harness need to be switched out (haven't had any luck finding that part named or identified) or can I just replace the coil pack & plug for cyl 4?
I certainly don't want to pay them 1k to replace something that I am fully capable of doing myself... once I understand the problem and necessary parts to correct it.

2014 Passat. It burns a quart of oil a month. Started around 80,000 miles. Everything else has been fine pretty much. 102,000 miles now. Too expensive to fix all that so we have to do what all the other thousands of Passat owners do and keep pouring in oil. It’s ridiculous that they’ve made so many so crappy.

I have a right side corner/marker light that is out and showing a error in the middle of my control panel. This is the light on the side of the car right behind the headlight. On the front corner side of the car. This is in a 2016 VW Passat. I bought the replacement bulbs, but no one seems to be able to figure out how to get at the bulb to take the old one out and replace it. Please help. I can send a picture if that would help? It’s not a huge deal or even that important, but don’t want to get a ticket for it and would like to remove the error code that is in the middle of the dash and doesn’t allow me to have the speed show up there digitally and just annoys me that it’s there. It also has a light bulb indicator in the tack side of the instrument panel as well.
I also just brought my car in to try and remove the (!) point in the speedo side of the of the control panel. I just had all tire pressure checked at my local garage as well as have them check the alignment and all pressures were fine and it’s in perfect alignment. Any detailed ideas on how to go about fixing these annoying “dummy lights”? Thanks in advance for any help!!

I also had something rip the black plastic that is behind the front painted part of the bumper get pealed back. This disconnected two wires that allow me to see the outside temperature in the dash display and the Temperature display in my radio shows up but it reads -58 degrees in a 70 degree day in Florida. The engine light turned on as well and is off sometimes and sometimes it’s on. I brought it back to the mechanic and he said it is not hurting the engine I just can’t get the outside temperature. Also when the black plastic was pushed back from hitting something under the car it took the hard plastic piece that supposedly is a structural piece that helps hold the radiator in place. Mechanic said I would need to take to Volkswagen to have these items fixed and the plastic piece that structurally piece that is under the radiator is now fitted snug with zip ties, but mechanic said I should get this fixed by VW dealer because it’s important structural piece. He said for this piece of plastic VW dealership will charge $1000 to fix. Is it that important and worth the price of the fix? Appreciate your help in advance!

I bought it at around 78,000 miles the dealership said it wasn't under warranty and didn't want to fix it until I said it was a safety issue and I pointed it out to the salesman they did end up fixing it at their expense. flywheel had a rattling noise and sounded like exhaust pipe at first. Still not sure why the flywheel went out at 80,000.
