- This video provides information about the Afro-centric religion, Revivalism. Most people are afraid of this cultural form and so there are lots of myths about its practices. This video provides insight and clarification about this religious practice in Jamaica and the Caribbean. The information provided may not change your views, which is fine as the idea for sharing is not to change anyone's view but to provide information.
the original video was found at the page of the African Caribbean Institute of Jamaica. See link • What Is Revival?
Are Revivalists still observing a White Jesus though? I have so many questions about this.
I love this video. So informative! I am personally happy to learn about it & to know it is still alive & well. This has sent me down a rabbit hole & I’ve also now learned about Myal. What a lovely tapestry of a culture we have. I want to see more of our pride & practices lift up Africa again 🙌🏾
Give thanx, Dorraine, for uploading this informative video. What a spiritual energy and strength in these cultural manifestations of africanness! I get to understand the why´s and how´s of the context and background of Jamaican popular music.
You're welcome. Happy to inform
Extremely informative! Many still lack Knowledge regarding Revivalism aka Pocomania. This brought me back to my childhood as my grandmother was one of those who paid her tithes at the Anglican Church, but was a die-hearted Revivalist along with my great grandaunt. I am very fortunate to have experienced going on ‘bands trip’, and the meeting house with Mama. Well done!
Im so confused. I just saw a vid with a Revivalist bishop vehemently stating that Revivalists are NOT Pocomania. You are saying they are one & the same?
Revivalism is truest expression of African belief system in the New World.
It is indeed a gem.
@@DorraineReid and must be cherish, and protected. Thanks
I learned a lot and I want to see some more bring it on beautiful documentary😍👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Happy you learnt from it. I will certainly be doing more
Well put together informative
Thank you.
The only thing for me is that it should be just based on the movements of the Holy Spirit of God and not to include other spirits because we know that some of the customs of our African heritage was filled with evil spirits and I don't think we should mix the 2. When a person is anointed by the Holy Spirit of God it is pure and you should not seem like you are possessed. That's all. I loved the insights so I could understand when these customs are still practiced. Blessings.
There are two types and so people indulge in the one that they luke. Thanks for your sharing your views.
What makes the AFRICAN heritage filled with evil spirits? Do you have this belief about European or Asian heritage? I’m always curious about how we come to these conclusions about ourselves.
We need they aspect of culture retention.
"that",..'they' is an error.
@@aileen6760 yes we do need it. It is part of who we are.
It is the Jamaican culture and even the Pentecostal and Church of God cannot get the rhythm of the music out of their blood.
This much is true. Their worship is not significantly different from many other churches
Is this something similar too spiritual baptist😊
They share some similarities.
