The fact that they started with the tale of slaves though. The history of yoruba traditional african vodun dates back thousands of years before slavery. Don't let the eurocentric eye fool you my brothas and sistas. Slavery was not African history, it interrupted african history. If you're going to tell a story about my people then do it right please

Good documentary. My man is of Haitian descent and this video is true to form. It did not have to start with the mention of the slave trade but that is how other 'branches' of Vodun were established, hoodoo is a perfect example. I am waiting for the release of Dimon Honsoun's doc about Vodun. But this doc gives basic info that is factual. Ayibobo!

I am from a country called BENIN in west Africa. I am an "amateur antropologist". I was born in Europe, raised between Europe, Africa and North America. Unfortunately, African scholars now define themselves through the eyes of Europeans and are now unable to translate their own culture adequately.
Vodun, Voodoo or Hoodoo in the Americas is NOT what we have in Africa. By definition Vodun in Benin /Togo/ Ghana is related to the Gbé people (Fon, Goun, Ewe, Mina, Popo). The word is actually two words Vo (our) Adun (Essence force spirit) meaning "our essence", "Our force": US. The particularity of Vodun is that, it defines a clan, a family, a stronghold. It represents the spirit of the clan. Each has its own spirit (Adun). It is the vessel by which the clan relates to the afterworld. In the cosmogology there is only one GOD (suprise!!! monoteism), humans cannot access to god. He is the all powerful and mighty and therefore cannot be represented. No statues, no shrines etc. to the glory of god. It is just an evidence, the existence of god is not questionned just accepted as an evidence. Under god there are spirits (good or bad) they are forces to be reckonned with. Metal is a force, the wind is a force, plague is a force, water, air, thunder etc. Therefore spirits in their own right deamed to be worshiped.
Now , the tricky part. What represents a clan is the Vodun of the clan. It is the vessel that will conduct thead of that clan to the afterlife (Very important aspect of a lot of African cultures). Since one is not wise enough, knowledgeable enough to address God (Mahu) One prays to the ancesters in the Afterlife to intercead with the Almighty on their behalf using the vodun as a vessel for that prayer. That is Vodun. NO sacrifices, no blood. Alcohol, food (beans, maize, red palm oil etc.) is offered along with kola nuts for the oracle.
Those OTHER forces , spirits, are something man would want to harness as a shortcut to gain what he wants at his own risk and peril. The spirituality in West Africa is based on Duality for equilibrium (good cannot exist without bad), responsability of consequences and praying for those that have past before you. If you are in need of a short cut, you now enter the world of occultism OBO in gbé language, and yes there is a similarity with the word OBEAH.
There is a difference between a Vodunon (a vodun priest) and a bokotonon (a OBO highpriest). The first one administers prayers and takes care of the clan temple the latter is the master of occultism that can cast a spell.
When slaves were taken to America they could not retain the Vodun as it is linked to the clan. Because of their despair and in order to feel protected they retained OBO: the science of occultism called Juju in Yoruba. Since all spirits are called Vodun and slaves built shrines for those vodun, Voodoo etc. The white man called the whole thing Voodoo. The Jamican Maroon retained the original word Obeah that in Afica with time is probably an evolution of pronouciation OBO. Obeah would probably be the original world that would "O Gbe ha" (The Essence of Life). Hope I did not bore you too much. My french being better than my English, my apologies for my many mistakes.

Just focus on your own spiritual growth, not religious growth. And as a collective the entire world will benefit over time. Voodoo is a mix of christianity and many different religions of different african tribes. The core (belief in loa and many rituals) is so old that it is actually used as a baseline for developing religions. Thanks to african religions being so bloody old we can actually watch in real time how belief in magic (which is older than religion) turned into animism, and later personal gods. There are researchers which connect a lot of cave paintings with traditional Hodoun rituals, which would make african believes the oldest known metaphysical system with over 50 THOUSANDS years of unbroken tradition.

As soon as the Africans finally freed themselves after three wars with huge French armies, the French threatened to re-invade with British and American help, and ransomed Haiti for almost all the gold the nation had. And so, the first Black Democracy in the world was robbed at gunpoint on its birthday by the first two White Democracies and a Monarchy, and became the poorest nation in the West.

"Should have been able to get over it by now," also a big lie: USA installed two dictators in Haiti for the purpose of preventing the Haitian people from 'getting over it," at least in the sense of making any indepdendent choices. You are just hateful and are blocked by racism from being able to sympathize with humans you see as "other.'

If you believe in voodoo and you're here, feeling oppressed by what truth / lies are being told in this documentary, I would like to challenge your thinking for a moment. The electricity the people are using, the glasses they wear, the schnapp bottles they are able to chew, all those colorful clothing they wear, were they manufactured through "voodoo" knowledge?
Which one of the over 90% of things you even see at a voodoo shrine came about due to voodoo?
If you believe that it works this much, I would like to challenge you to do something else. Get off this *internet* and go create a voodoo network which is free and can run on animal sacrifice. My ISP is charging a lot for internet and I'd gladly like one that runs on black magic.

The closing remark at the end of the video is so true! The fact that millions of people connect with the spirit world as presented in the documentary is amazing. When you think about it Judaism and Torah with it's incense burning and animal sacrifices, Christianity with it's Holy Spirit living inside of people and also people being overwhelmed by the Holy Spirit is similar to Voodoo worshippers under the influence of divine deity spirit , not to mention glossolalia (speaking in tongues in Christianity), and the communion with the blood and flesh of Jesus being real, the transubstantiation of the bread and wine... So what qualifies these "western religions" as authoritative and real in terms of defining what is a real god and what is a fake God. Why is Jehovah, Jesus, and Allah real, but Vodun and Oludamare fake? Who determines true religion from paganism. The 3 "western religions," aren't as western as we think and really not at all especially when they co-opted from the African Egyptians "Book of the Coming Forth by Day," and "Ra and the Mysteries. Religious bigotry is real.

Thank you very much. Can't say I'd ever expect for God to pick me out of many others. I was very isolated & nihilistic. But I went out during my seeing the supernatural all the time out of interest. But after I saw the spirtual lies & betrayal I found God pleading with my heart for truth & to get out of the crazy things going on. Praying from the heart knowing their was more than physical world I asked for Jesus. He came & being spirtualy a heratic I didn't know what that power good energy was. But when it hit me I could almost see a never ending sea of light like there was no end. I couldn't process the endless amount of power I felt l was in awe. After being used to spiritual attacks. I wasn't even 1 percent of his power before I was on my knees. Everything came out spirts powers it was like they were going to perish if they stayed. You can feel & sense spirts when you let them in. It's like you're linked. I felt pure dread from them as I left. Then I felt peaceful & that whole in my heart was filled. That hole that fake power & addiction used to let me ignore the sadness. I was missing God. The Holy Spirt was in me like a perfect puzzle peace. Since I have shown off with a few witches & spirts. They can't understand Jesus like I can because in bible it says darkness can't comprehend the light. But they hate it once you know the spirts or person is into it because Jesus lends me his power & authority over them because if spirts are messing around with people we are allowed to use your authority to cast their spirts & power away because we can cast out demons like the disciples learned. We are granted powers of spirts that do things they are not permitted to do. Certain times to do it it takes longer because some require fasting & deep focus on that spirt that the person thinks is good for them. I pray all of you find the Lord like I did. He came for sinners & the lost. Don't expect to fly around as a spirt when you could wake in never ending fire. I don't want any of you their. This stuff attracts like a magnet but that doesn't make it good. If you seek him with a serious intent and needing you can find him. He does not come randomly. You have to seek him to have him. Like a phone call....are you mad at him because he didn't call you? You call him. Get away from pride and just call him to start a relationship. Bless you all. Done it got out of it. Advise the ones who read to come with. I was always a seeker of truth & took me most of it to get it. Jesus Christ the Messiah died on cross and rose again for our sins.
These spirts are of the world, they are actors & decivers. They will all go into the pit when the end comes. They want to take you with them. It's like a child that beaks things & hurts people because they are in trouble for what they have done. Imagine being a spirt going to hell that is very old and bitter he has to go but you have a choice? They want you to go down if they have too to. If it means being nice or gaining little weird powers cool. All hustlers & schemers act that way before they rob you. Be warry. The dark comes in many shapes and people. They are not dumb. But you have to use your own common sense & wisdom you know in word. Find the truth & you will find. But the road of truth is hard. The weak willed & proudly deceived get tricked all the time. Seek out Jesus Christ. This is coming from a none white person which it shouldn't matter but it does to some. We're all family if you go back in time. The Devil has his pushers but God has his that have learned to save as many people as they can from decivers. I am my brothers keeper. So I save you even if you hate me. For the Truth is inside me to know what is right & wrong not my ego. All prayers to the true God of all the races & classes. In Jesus Christ name amen.

I am half Puerto Rican & half white. So I understand that things as the principalities that literally run certain areas. Hati has a principality & a strong hold by the sacrifces there for example. Or in Latino where many will have a shrine of Saints. Saint of WHATEVER. There's alot. But what really happens to the idols that you whorishp end up having a devil/spirt go in it. So you just see a Mary idol but it has a devil in it. So you pray to it, it gives it power & a taste of what they want. It's very weird some of certain personalities or want you do weird things.
People don't want to go into Christianity because they don't have the Holy Spirt. We are the Gentiles. We are the ones who practiced pagan religions which we have in our blood from family members we don't even remember practicing things.
People don't want to think God let our anscenters be slain because they would not turn to God because it was normal there. Like now Christians get attacked in name of spirts or the pagan Moon God Allah. God made his moves and the events lead us into a situation where we can find God. The dark is anything without God. We don't have to deny God because a white man has it or vice versa.
This whole revival of black vs the world is just satanic people who know how to work a society called social engineers. They work us cause they have the logic to know the brain & some times the spirt.
Going back to your roots devides us even more & will send youself right back into the savages of old with witchcraft & spirtual decite. They don't report on Christians getting attacked because we were to be hated like Jesus was. The devil spirts inside them tell them to fight or to flee. They think it's their emotions & thoughts but it's not. Why it's hard to understand there's spirts inside that are messing you up. But today they welcome them in. We are going back to the roots of Sodom & Gomorrah! The end times were said it be like this. Why finding God is harder each Generation. I'm a sinner that works on myself humans are all tainted it's in the blood when Adam & Eve ate the Apple. We think we can decide what's good and evil l, not God. This stuff will make you want to smash your head into a wall realising that things are true. Why think sacrificing & blood works in so many societies in past? Life is in the blood. They are feeding the Nephilim the devils. Sex magic. Blood magic. Ect. Their all practices that God's enimies promoted for a long time. But it's just not called what it used to be called. Temptations & bad energy is in many people l. But you have to understand the workings of the world.
Babylon....like Bob Marley said even though he was a Rasta....what kind of fruit does Babylon produce? Bob Marley : "....Fruits of Babylon.....Babylon dun have any fruit mon."
That is where going back to the roots will do. Practices that bare no fruits. Just tribal hatred of the world that the devils & Satan enjoy.

I always thought of Voodoo in that sense until the rich folk's started using dark magic on me, just like the slavery folk's I am only protecting my self again evil.

@@not.alexanderr voodoo is demon worship at most, they worship/conjure evil spirits at the least. Voodoo isn't a peace loving religion/philosophy/practice. It's something broke people turn to out of boredom.

Mapou )Ceiba spp.) or silk-cotton trees have more significance than they tell: the ghosts of the holy are believed to reside there, and one can have sacred dreams under them. I was told the dead were buried around them in the old days. When the French cut them down, they were destroying cemeteries and holy places.
