I think judged events are BS, even though the athletes that participate in these events are amazing and can do incredible things. The only events that I watch are timed events or scored events like football (American). That's just me, obviously everyone has their own opinion and that is what makes the world a wondrous place.
Compare Skiing Big Air with Skiing Ariels. The former is judged on size/difficulty of the trick and also *style*, if a rider comes up with a new, cool way to do a standard trick they'll get marked up for it. The latter is more like diving, scored purely on difficulty and 'perfect form' in the air, no room for adding your own flare. Do you really want Skiing Ariels?
This new format that you've been doing for a while now is the one. It's so much better having a third person on the side. Better energy and banter and now adding special guests stars too it's awesome! Love it!

Id say that the last rampage's judges have been pretty terrible for the past few years. Giving the win to Brandon was super rigged, redbull just wanted a story. (Doesn't help that they were the guy's friends)
It started as Gnarly Mountain bike super steep stuff. Now its all Dirt Jump Slopestyle paved jumps. It should be about riding Gnarly Trails that has scary drop or rock slab, not Table Tops made by Excavators.
I think judged competitions have absolutely no way of removing all bias. I have appreciated figure skating for it’s judging though. Each trick has a base value which then can be added upon. Maybe FMBA or Rampage could do something like that. Newly invented tricks could be something that bring bonus points. Just an idea.

Technically, you will have people judging a competition who are either not in that specific branch of the sport (e.g. flatlanders judging street) or you will have older/younger riders in the same discipline judging the event. Either way, unless you are in a specific discipline you sometimes cannot judge what it takes to pull a trick off, because if you really knew, you would be out there competing. Yes, there are exceptions, like injured riders or 18+ judging junior competitions, but that's just a part of judging competitions. Just my 2c. ... I frankly never enjoyed competitions, even if I ended placing good, I was stressed to hell the entire time, couldn't sleep the night before ... etc etc etc .... I don't really enjoy watching such sports either when it is a competition. A video cut together with music is something I can enjoy. A 1:30 run where someone tries to pull the hardest tricks off, not really showcasing the little things that often show up on "clips" .... little idiotic lip tricks or a crazy drop or skinny riding ...... sure you see the double-backflip-barspin-superman .... competitions are just boring to watch ..... Recently I rather watch Pump track riding then a DJ comp. Or some raw footage of a group of dudes riding a tree and a drop 99 ways....
I think Rampage should have 2 events. one timed and one judged. I would LOVE to see people go as fast as they can down that nonsense more than how many tricks they can do.

the judges are just people which means they can make mistakes, make poor decisions, be corrupted, etc...I've seen many judges do a great job and many more do a real crap job. It's a crap shoot!
should do videos on small bike parks/ trail centres in the UK, there's enough of them and they go unnoticed to bigger parks which everyone already knows about

agreed. judged events CAN be BS, but I truly think it comes down to the sport. Ie I believe Olympic Gymnastics and ice skating is incredibly biased.
