Mixing stuffing mix with meatloaf is something I never thought I’d see! Stuffing & meatloaf are 2 of my wife’s favorite foods so I KNOW she’d go crazy for this combo! I’m gonna have to try this!
This is a perfect recipe to tweak my own meatloaf. The next day we have it cold for lunch sliced on buttered sandwich bread with just salt and pepper. It’s heaven.
I make mine the exact way. And you know what the secret is, besides the stovetop stuffing? The milk! I'm older, and before the stuffing mix came out, we used bread crumbs, stale or not, soaked in the milk. And then used our own spices. I'm from a German/Swiss heritage and my recipe is over 100 years old. I've had meatloaf without the milk added and I can tell by the taste and texture immediately that it's not in there. I also will mix in a bit of ground pork with the hamburger if I have it. Thankyou for taking your time to post. (P.s the Walmart brand of stuffing works fine)

I made this last night. I usually make my meatloaf with ritz crackers! I loved the flavor of this meatloaf using the stove stop stuffing. I just added more ketchup for the additional moisture.

I been using stovetop stuffing for the past couple of years since I saw the recipe on FB. It is yummy. Since I hardly ever have ketchup in the house, because I am not a fan, I put a couple of tablespoons of bbq sauce in the mixture and make a mushroom gravy to serve with it. Along with egg noodles and green beans. Oh and I line my loaf pan with a wet sheet of parchment paper for easy removal and cleanup.
You could place 2 slices of bread on the pan before placing your loaf. Soaks up the greese, easier clean up...could mix in with your dogs food if you have one.

Tess: I make mine just like this, but I also add Colby Jack Cheese and bell pepper (like Cracker Barrel). I also mix 1/2 C. ketchup and 1/2 C. BBQ sauce together and spread about 1/2 of it on top. Bake for 45 minutes, then spread with remaining topping mix. Bake an additional 15-20 minutes. This is one of my favorite meat loaf recipes, and my go to.
I LOVE Stove Top Stuffing Meatloaf. It's so delicious. It's a really nice/different change from the more traditional style. The only thing I do different is, I bake my loaf in a bunt pan. I make some creamy whipped potatoes while the meatloaf bakes and time it so they're done about the same time so I can turn the bunt shaped loaf on to my serving dish to let rest a little without getting cold, so I can then scoop my creamy whipped potatoes into the well in the center, packing full as possible. Then I drizzle hot brown gravy over the whole works. Add a veg of choice and some fruit pie or maybe a fruit crumble for dessert and it's a feast. Another great meal Tess, I can almost taste it through the youtube, lol😆. Thanks for sharing your recipe.❤😋
I was out of breadcrumbs and used some stove top in a pinch and it was delicious in there. I also used onions and onion soup both. The topping I used ketchup, brown sugar and a nice squirt of mustard.
Hello again Tess, I made your meatloaf tonight, it was great. The only thing it took about 35 minutes longer. It might be because I baked it in a pan that all clad sent me years ago, it's a loaf pan a bit longer and its metal of course, plus I lined it with parchment paper. Don't know if that did something to the cooking time, but it was still great, and we have plenty for leftovers. Thanks again for sharing it. Stay well and safe.
Thanks for the recipe, in mine I don't use milk, instead a can of Rotel with green chilies tomatoes do not drain, there's where you get liquid and I drizzle Cholula green on top with strips of bacon 🥓 it's a keeper, hope you like this recipe, live in Arizona so its all about the southwest flair, but love yours too! Tess, what a great idea using Stove Top instead of breadcrumbs. I usually soak to pieces of white bread in milk, squeeze it out and add it to the meat. I use to make a great meatloaf (I thought) but now it's kind of boring. Yours looks great. Thanks for sharing. Stay well and safe.

I have been making my meatloaf with stovetop stuffing mix for years and it is always good. And I also put in the ingredients this lady uses. Try it and you won't be disappointed.
I'd love to do that tonight (so much easier for leftovers/storage and shorter cooking time💛) but I think (know!) my husband would have kittens if I de-loafed the meatloaf😅😅

Lining the pan with plastic wrap, then packing in the meat, and then pulling out the meat log and baking it on a sheet pan instead of leaving it in the loaf pan gives so much surface area to work with. You could even stuff the meat log with cheese before packing it into the loaf pan. I have even laid bacon on top of the glaze that I painted the loaf with first. Use anything you want to glaze with. 😊
I put bacon slices on the glaze. The dressing mixes work well. Half of a large sweet onion is enough for me. I make up a brown gravy to serve on top of the meatloaf and potato. Birdseye sweet corn instead of green beans works for me. The leftovers make great sandwiches.
We add this and cowboy candy. We put BBQ sauce in the meatloaf (little bit). My mom also adds a can of milk that I think is evaporated milk. It’s sooooooo good. We really all like this cold on sandwiches with lettuce and onion the next day.
Bell peppers definitely add some great flavor. I like to wrap pepper strips around string cheese and bury them in the middle along with some crumbled bacon.
I like onions and bell peppers in mine. I saute them first so along with a minced clove of garlic rather than garlic powder so they give off more flavor and melt into the meatloaf better.
It’s usually a mixture of ketchup and sugar so it bakes into a dense caramelized layer of tomatoey goodness. (The earliest meatloaf recipes used a mixture that was more or less a primitive bbq sauce.)
I tweak this with beefy onion soup mix. I use plain bread crumbs, saltines and stove top stuffing. I put diced tomatoes & bell pepper in my mixture. Nice and hearty for cold weather days and top mine with a shredded cheese 🧀
For a meat mixture! I use beef/ chicken & lamb. You can add the stovetop but will dry it out some & skip the ketchup & top it off with a can of Ricos premium cheddar for a cheesy meatloaf😁👍
Hi Tess, it's me for the 3rd time. I want to use 2lb. of meat (all I have is frozen, in 1 lb. pkgs.) I don't have any Stove Top Stuffing mix on hand but I do have some potato bread that I made. If I soak the bread in milk, should I still add the milk to the meat mixture? Also, I just want to make it a free form meatloaf, unless it will fit in a 9x5 bread pan. So, my question is really about the bread and milk. Oh, and should I increase any of the spices or add any that would be missing from the stuffing. Sorry for going on and on. I never put ketchup on top because I like to either put ketchup on the slices or sometimes I add brown gravy
I add ketchup to the top. About 15 minutes before it's done baking. Eat it how you like it.

2 tbsp. brown sugar
1 tsp. mustard

I use the old fashioned oatmeal, no catsup on top. Better nutritionally, and I have had to give my recipe to every stranger whoever ate it!

I’ve learned that meatloaf is better when the onions and garlic are sautéed first then added when done.
With the stove top stuffing mix, do you add the seasoning packet?
