    Wheeler Dealers defied all odds to become one of the few automobile-themed shows popular outside of the United States; the British car show airs on The Motor Trend Channel, and its cast members’ mission is to salvage cars by repairing them, improving the quality and selling them off to make a profit. Although the show was based in the United States for the first 6 years, it has now been moved to the United Kingdom to film at a workshop near Bicester Heritage.
    Over the years, the show has seen mechanics and hosts come and go, but the show remains solid, all thanks to Mike Brewer, who always makes sure to get a perfect replacement for any cast member that leaves. So, what really happened to Mike Brewer? Let’s find out.

    My Dad went through a severe depressive episode after a period of critical illness, he lost all interest in things and he became fretful and obsessive. In that dark period the only thing that held his attention was Wheeler Dealers and Mike and Edd China's chat. Gradually his mood lifted and he went back to normal but i remember the relief of another box of DVDs arriving knowing that would get us through another few difficult evenings. Will always be grateful to this show and its presenters.

    Having watched Wheeler Dealers from it's very beginning I have to say the show's quality started to drop as soon as it went to America, although it was then more popular as it was available to a wider audience. Mike also has a large used car dealership company in the UK one of his showrooms is quite near here in Sheffield and it takes up a massive building at an old steel works. Edds youtube channel has been phenomenally successful but it's taken a bit of a hit after some family grief. Much respect for both of them although I warm to Edd more as he is a marvelous mechanic and can explain things clearly. His recent trip to drive one of the trucks taking aid to war torn Ukraine with his mate Paul won him even wider public respect.

    The thing is in every comment either has made, Mike seems to give false praise to Edd and there is always a sly dig somewhere. He seems to say something professional and then can't help himself and some venom comes out. Edd seems to accept the situation and there doesn't appear animosity from his side.
    Of course, Edd could be a master troll and know what buttons to press, knowing Mike isn't smart enough not to take the bait. Either way, the public definitely know which one of this pair they prefer.

      @tjroelsma ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I watched the first episodes with Ant Anstead and everything Mike said turned out to be a lie and everything Edd said turned out to be true.
      Pretty much all Ant did was change wheels, do an oil change and occasionally do a simple repair job like changing brake pads, but the more complicated repairs that Edd did were immediately gone.
      Funny enough that was also how the show started: Mike buying a car, Edd doing some simple repairs and Mike selling the car. Over time the repairs became the more important part, ironically enough partly driven by Mike's ambition to buy and sell higher class cars, yet somehow that didn't seem to sit too well with Mike. Instead of focussing on him, the "Wheeler Dealer", the show's focus shifted more on Edd. In later episodes Mike made somewhat of a comeback by not only doing the buying and selling, but also hunting for hard-to-find spare parts or specialists who could repair expensive parts cheaper than buying new parts.
      I'd say that before Mike sold out the rights of the show to a US production company, the focus of the show was pretty much balanced between him and Edd, due to Mike taking on these extra tasks. But it quickly became clear that the US company wanted to make the show more low budget to increase the profit, so the expensive part, being the complicated repairs, had to go. Edd refused to be downgraded from being a master technician to just another quick service type mechanic and he left the show.

    With reference to the incident in Afghanistan with the helicopter: Brewer and his cameraman hitched a ride aboard an RAF Chinook called out on a genuine casevac (casualty evacuation) flight. Whilst the helicopter was on the ground picking up the wounded soldier the pilot was hit by a round fired by the Taliban, taking a wound to the head. The Chinook wasn't forced to land - indeed the injured pilot flew the helicopter all the way back to base to give the casualty the best chance of survival. The pilot was subsequently treated for his wound back at base. If I remember correctly, the injured soldier sadly died from his wounds.

    I spent 10 years working for a car dealer in Alperton. The show is really good. China was the best but Elvis and Ant were also good in a different way. Mike is just the salesman and we all know the standing of a Used Car Salesman in the UK…. know wot I mean? I got no problem with Mike he is the pitch man. The problem I always had with the show was the “nice tidy profit” that they made! Ummmm add the $10k labour bill to every project and you lost your ass mate! In later shows they started to figure that part out. Hope the show keeps going. Also I like the flipping bangers show too. All the mechanics were legit they weren’t just fitters.

      @steeviebops 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The "leaving out the labour" bit made sense back in the early days when the idea behind the show was to demonstrate repairs that you could do yourself on older, simpler cars. But once they set sights higher it lost that.

    You want to drop that "KPH" abbreviation, because it's gibberish. K doesn't stand for kilometer, it stands for kilo, namely 1,000. And H is not the abbreviation for hour. hr is the abbreviation you want.
    And as for "by chester," gimme a break.
    Illustrates the folly of using a US presenter for a UK situation.

    Mike and Ant always pretend to dislike any kind of aftermarket parts, cutting them down and calling them rubbish while they remove them and throw them “in the bin”. However, on episode 12 of season 21 called Mikes Pride and Joy, he had his Porsche 911 Carrera in the shop with the hood open and what did everyone see on Mike Brewers personal car but an aftermarket cold air intake! Hypocrite! The cold air intake was the most maligned “bit of kit” and the most criticized especially when the filter sat in the engine bay, which is where Mike’s filter was, sucking up hot air from the engine!

    Jeez, Wheeler Dealer,s needs Ed China, but it does,nt need Mike Brewer, who brings a lot less to the programme than Ed, who is a brilliant mechanic.

    Not over bothered by the change from Edd to Ant, though I prefer the former. The real changer for me is that as a Brit I had no association with many of the cars they were restoring and the outcome was of little interest.

    I started watching Wheeler Dealers on DTX tv channel. Mike is a good dealer, but too lazy to lend a hand in fixing cars, saying he is busy. Among the mechanics I preferred Ant the most, he was ingenious, resourceful, explicit and funny compared to Edd. I watch whatever episode I like, I'm not unhappy, but it's not like before... But compared to the first few episodes where the £500 car was brought in and Edd sat in the garage fixing the car without any honors it's better

    Wheeler Dealers started in the UK in 2003 then after 10 years Mick started going out to the US to get American cars then they moved out there an the show became Americanised an people from the UK and Ireland didn't like where it was going, also Edd had other commitments in the UK an didn't like spending so much time away from his beautiful wife an home, an personally i an many people i have spoke to believe it should have stayed in the UK,

    Mike Brewer seems a nice bloke, but he always comes over as 'jack the lad'. If you watch him talking on the TV , his favourite phrase is "ME and..." Edd would do 80% of the restoration, and Mike would say "I've done this, and I've done that" to the buyer, with little regard to the mechanics time & effort. If you watch Edds programme, it's somewhat different. Edd credits his principal assistant, which seems much more acceptable.
