Except you would still hear the 4AG(be pretty hard to not hear the thing at 12000rpm through that ragtop...). Visually you'd not spot it easily unless you were on your brakes(spoiling attempts at blocking an overtake), but you'd definitely have a strong idea if they were coming from the left of the right.
@@detectivepayne3773 The factor of the road being narrow makes placing/locating where your opponent can make a pass easier to predict. As for your own engine(AP1 is a noisy engine, yes, but as soon as you see those lights go, you'd wonder where they went and why you can't spot them. It'd be useful in surprising them for a moment, but race craft would simply suggest that you'd then take your best inside line and force the other guy to try to overtake on the outside. Given their effective pace, unless Godhand imploded without much reasoning, Takumi isn't gonna manage a pass that way. That said, I get why it happened, just saying it's not likely to work in reality.

The US really got shafted with not getting the initial D arcades, we got need for speed and other crappy racers guarantee if in the early 2000‘s when anime really took off they released it along with Initial D Lexi on Cartoon Network it would’ve totally made money! not to mention I’ve seen the arcades with the AEeight six movable model along with the R9

God Foot and God Arm were the best opponents. They had no ulterior motives, they didn’t play dirty, and they didn’t have some hidden trick up their sleeve They were just two wealthy best friends who were amazing at drifting

I love how takumi uses all of his skills in the span of a minute. A gutter run combined with a blind attack combined with four wheel drifting makes this one hell of an overtake.
I suspect this battle was the reason why Takumi doesn't use gutter techniques later on, in Fifth Stage. As damaging his suspension may have given him trauma or PTSDs Edit - He uses it against Satoshi in the manga

You can only do a wheel lifting, but that'll be pointless if you're trying to overtake someone who's faster in cornering speed. Also, Tsubaki Line which is the home course of Shinji Inui, has almost only fast corners. Only later on there are sharp ones. But there is a wall on the inside so it's still pointless to do gutter runs or wheel lifting.
This S2000 and the Evo III were the only ones the 86 couldn't actually beat. Love that realism!! He just didn't lose for other reasons but in pace alone couldn't overtake them.
God arm, actually said Takumi, could give him a run for his money if he pulled off the gutter runs with max speed, just saying plus it’s not no normal 86, it’s got a holy aura to it.
@@joshshrum2764 there's no holy aura to the 86. Years of tuning by both Bunta and Takahashi have perfected it to such a degree that with Takumi's muscle memory and confident inputs, it turns into a monster. And it will eat you if it wishes to.

More than anything this battle was a testament to Takumi's skill. He clearly lost in skill, yet Dr. Joshima lost in age; Dr. Joshima lost in his age (endurance) because Takumi's skill was more than he'd expected and pushed his durability (i.e., his stamina and ability to ride with a single arm).
I wouldn't say clearly lost in skill. The modified gutter run worked, but he kept doing it and his suspension just happened to fail while attempting one. He did reovertake. God Arm deserved his victory though, he did well until he threw up

Increasing/decreasing distance, passing, etc. Takumi didn't break the rules per say but he sure as hell needed a way to slip in undetected AND, kept using the gutter to compensate for his car's lack of ability to keep up. Objectively, he won the race but had to use new "tricks" to compete against a better car and experienced driver.
