  • This film, created by organizations from Misrata, Tripoli and Sebha, is perhaps the first citizen-produced docudrama to air on national television in Libya after the revolution.
The film encourages citizens to participate in civil society through volunteerism and spreading correct public safety information with regards to UXOs (Unexploded Ordnances), including land mines and other remnants of war.
The film was made with generous guidance and support from Land Mine Action Center, the organization setting the standard in keeping with international protocol for treatment and clearance of UXOs in Libya; Free Fields for De-mining, the first Libyan civil society organization dedicated to public education and training for civilians; International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC); and Libyan Red Crescent Society.
The main character, Abdullah, is portrayed by Abd Alsalam Ebsat ( ebsat.abdalsalam), a first time actor, whose motivation to play the role of a citizen advocate is to honor the sacrifices of civilian soldiers who gave their lives for Libya's liberation, and to recognize the many victims of UXO incidents, most of whom are children and youth.
Rabie Jawashi, founder of Free Fields for Demining, portrayed a teacher delivering training in film, and in reality, works as a civilian volunteer and trainer of trainers for land mine action operations across the country.
Special thanks to Libyan Red Crescent who provided production support in the form of emergency medical vehicles and staff to support the realistic portrayal of a land mine incident.
Special thanks to Mohammed Ali Leghuel, who provided excellent translation services, and essential production support. Additional thanks to Haithem Albokhary for translation and subtitling services.

    BACKGROUND
The docudrama was produced during a six-week video training workshop, held June 24th to August 4th in Tripoli, Libya, as part of a project entitled, Voter Ownership and Increasing Civic Participation (VOICE), implemented by Creative Associates International and media training partners, Barefoot Workshops, with funding from the US- Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI).
Participants in the training included: Libyan Scouts & Girl Guides, Sebha Youth Forum, The Libyan Organization for Administration and Human Capacity Development and The Free Generation Movement.
Together the groups produced eleven PSAs on topics including electoral education, voter participation and rule of law, and two short docudramas about the new constitution and mine risk education.
