I watched that live. I was dying, Ame and Kiara were dying, and the chat were all dying during that last portion especially with the 15-20 minute chase scene.
I sleep right after their match, it was really intense for my brain. 10/10 would love to see the rematch.

I heard that one of the worst kind of players to run into playing chess is the one who has no idea what he's doing, but this... This is something else...
I have no idea how to actually play chess, just the basic movements and maybe some braincells which allowed me to see a move ahead, and I still remember the time I beat a wanna be chess pro who competed in local tournaments because he kept using strats while I just moved pieces. It was glorious to see the look on his face and I had to comfort the poor bastard
@@idunnodo1142 It happens. I almost managed to do the same to a friend of mine, he was not a wannabe pro and just knew enough strats, while I kept messing things up by making sub optimal or outright stupid moves.

@@idunnodo1142 one of the things you actually have to do if you wanna be good is watch what your opponent does. And if you can tell he isnt thinking much ahead, then use his lack of knowledge to bait him into traps

Rooks have a lot of potential, second only to the queen in mobility. A shame we don't see many good plays with them at the higher levels.
@@nullpoint3346 rooks are powerful, yes, but you don’t want to pull them out first. You need to develop your other pieces, your pawns, knights, and bishops, before you pull out your big guns
@@nullpoint3346 It's not about the rooks being bad or lacking potential, they are regarded as being worth almost 2x as much as a knight or bishop. It's just that to bring them into play costs a lot of momentum that your opponent will capitalize on to develop much faster then you and put you on the defensive. Rooks are also less useful early game too, because there hasn't been much action, meaning there aren't open columns yet and pawns+other pieces are still protecting most squares.
Knights are the first to be developed due to high mobility in early game and their special ability to jump through pieces since they still have solid pawn structures

after watching kiara flub an almost guaranteed mate in two against any beginner like amelia, and then take an extra 50 minutes to lose, the holostars match was a mercy
I actually want more of these for some reasons.
Tbh the Holostar's one was better, sure they didnt know what to move, but at least their stalemate was better than this checkmating chase.

This match was one throwaway of our time.
I think amelia literally didnt know the definition of a checkmate. Like she didnt know if the king kills the unit results a check, also counts part of checkmate condition. (E.g like amelia could have thrown the queen in the line of the king to block all paths and the rook protected the queen, which she delibrately didnt do thinking that is not a checkmate since the queen dies.

Though in a completely winning position, black still took a couple dozen moves to checkmate white. Having watched matches of AlphaZero versus Stockfish. This was A Perfect Endgame.

My friend and I had once gotten into a situation where I just had a king and he had just a king and queen. It resulted in him just basically chasing me for over 30 minutes. Eventually, we got into a situation where he managed to get me into a checkmate in the corner of the board.
This gave me flashbacks.

When I see people making fun of others playing chess, I ask myself if in the only one that know the moves but totally sucks at it and don't care about learning or playing it.
Yeah, I also know the moves, but it's so boring to build up the game that I always end like "Hmmm, let's see how fast can I end", and I start moving the pieces randomly xD
