    I was thinking that as I'm using the mask to protect others from whatever is coming out of my nose and mouth, the inside of the mask is therefore the 'contaminated' side. So I fold it with the inside in. I'm not in healthcare, I can see where in such a profession it makes perfect sense to consider the outside being the 'dirty' side. Your thoughts on this?

    • @NurseMinder
      @NurseMinder  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      If the inside touches your skin, it is your “bad bugs” so putting it on a second time is okay. The outside has come into contact with other people and is why it is considered the dirty side.

    I have seen people N95 Mask once used, reusing again next day. Is it safe?
    Also what about surgical mask? Can we reuse it on the next day? Seen people reusing that as well.
    Need some awareness on that

      Precovid masks were used one time, one patient. Now we have stretched our practices and I don’t know what the science will say - sometimes our circumstances require us to change

    Kindly explain when do we use face mask with the colored side is out and using face mask with colored side in. Im confused of the different explanation. Example if im healthy what color of face mask must be out. Thanks so much for explaining.

    • @NurseMinder
      @NurseMinder  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some masks will only have one color and those are not the same as a surgical mask which has three layers. Pleats down on the outside to prevent the collecting of microbes from our environment. Color is out :)

    • @NurseMinder

      Yes. While not ideal, there are places where reusing masks has become essential.

    Thank you ♂🙋 That was so helpful 👌 But I think this is the right way to putting on the surgical mask for doctors & nurses so they should protect their patients, But the question now is, If we want to protect ourselves from COVID-19, How should we put on this mask?? I mean, Should we reverse the mask or keep the blue or pink side outside?? 🤔 Please, Can you answer my question?? 🤗

    • @NurseMinder
      @NurseMinder  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Do not reverse the mask. Use of a surgical mask protects from large droplet particles. It provides a barrier for entry into the respiratory system. Wearing the mask as intended by the manufacturer will optimize the protection it offers

    Overall good but didn't touching the outside of the mask to fold it then touching the bag contaminate the bag? This can be transferred to the clean side of the mask. Maybe have the bag open before the mask is folded?

    • @NurseMinder
      @NurseMinder  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Folding will require you touch the edges, so use minimal contact. You can also use a tupperware container

    I think the inside should be folded inward. Because those earpieces can pick up germs. Your hair is very dirty. The more something is handled the more possible risk of cross contamination. I just fold mine inward and lay on table away from airflow and other people. She said the earpieces are clean. Lol!

    When you take off the face mask and fold it, you have a few fingers touched the contaminated outside of the mask; then you used your hand including the contaminated fingertips to touch, open and fold the envelope, meaning you could have contaminated the face mask and the envelope when storing the mask. This is a big mistake and misleading! As a medical professional you should not have made such a mistake and not yet realised it! You could contract the virus yourself in the practice if not realising this mistake. Also wearing a pair of glasses you need to be particularly careful when removing the mask to avoid the stripes of mask being caught (like what happened to you in your video). You should clear that bit around your glasses’ legs first before you remove the face mask. By fiddling/shaking the mask you are at the risk of contracting the virus.

    • @NurseMinder
      @NurseMinder  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not an ideal situation for sure. Wash your hands before and after. You can remove the mask by the loops and place it face down in a plastic container then place a lid on top

      Where I work, I have not had to. I see other nurses removing their mask and laying it down while they eat so they can reuse it. I have heard from nurses where they have either no resupply or are allocated one mask a day and they have to make it work. It would not take you long to find stories online where masks were used for a week at a time
