An EV Designed For Females - Ora Lightning Cat / GWM Ora 07

  • Ora are not backward about coming forwards, they call a spade a spade and to hell with what anyone thinks. That's why their latest model, the suspiciously Panamera-esque Lightning Cat, or GWM Ora 07 as it'll be known in the UK, knows exactly who its audience is. Women. Sure, a man can drive this slender creature, heck, he might even enjoy playing with its frankly ridiculous acceleration if he thinks himself a boy racer, but he'll have to make do with make-up trays, a skinny steering wheel, and lower-than-normal door handles. Whatever your gender, the Lightning Cat's retro luxurious charm is something to behold. There's quite simply nothing else like it.

    Definitely inspired by Porsche, Bugatti & Bentley in terms of styling & design. & I don’t know about this being specifically built for females cause these features are literally on most cars 😅

    • @InsideChinaAuto
      @InsideChinaAuto  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      One I missed in the review was door handles placed lower down side females are generally shorter than males. It's their claim, not mine. I can't say I noticed the handles being lower to be honest.

      I'd argue that ORA would have better success focusing on bringing their Whitecat and Blackcat to western markets.
      Just because practically every automaker is competing in an overcrowded luxury/executive and crossover market doesn't mean it's a good strategy for Chinese competitors.
      There's a deep flaw with the auto market today and the entry level market has practically been abandoned, even by Kia and Hyundai.
      It's fertile ground for the likes of ORA to truly grow its brand instead of thinking it needs to woo VW, Audi and BMW drivers.

    • @InsideChinaAuto
      @InsideChinaAuto  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Should recommend that, it would look good. Weird car for sure but at least it's got character.

      They're among the cheapest in European markets but they're not what people remember as "cheap cars", arguably even Dacia and MG are drifting upwards in the market. Keeping profit margins up and up like the rest of the competition
      The very reason why proper city cars like the Citroen C1, Peugeot 108 and Toyota Aygo were discontinued

    • @InsideChinaAuto
      @InsideChinaAuto  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @toyotaprius79 Indeed, and therein lies the issue. How to persuade companies to make something not particularly profitable? Even Hongguangs only make about $22 per sale and $123 on the EV credits.

    I like the rounded forms in cars. In the 50th and 60th they build so many beautiful cars.
    Today it is all more or less the same, an endless line of boring saloons and SUV's. I like it that there are brands that dare to stand out, like ORA.
    A pity, that they stick to the 4-door cars and dont build coupes and cabrio's.

    Better looking than the Ionic 6.
    Those range figures and prices look a bit suspect.
    I also doubt a 600km range car with 200hp can break 6 seconds to 60mph.
    Despite these suspicions, this car looks superb.

    • @InsideChinaAuto
      @InsideChinaAuto  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It'll no doubt cost more when it gets to Europe but it's the real price here at least, but we have a price war going on. Cool that you like it though. Think I'd take the IONIQ 6 myself though I'm not sure on the back end. Just goes to show design is totally subjective.

    The most favourable review I've seen and the first single motor one. I do like it , love the tan interior but would set the spoiler to be up all the time. I could take a risk when changing my MG ZS ev. Companys like this have to much inversted to export rubbish and something different could give them a foothold for more mainstream and refined offerings later.

    • @InsideChinaAuto
      @InsideChinaAuto  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you like the looks, it's not a bad car at all. Ora are quirky, no doubt, but they know how to make cars and the Good Cat got 5 stars in Euro NCAP so it's safe. Of course try it yourself first, I would always recommend that. What works for me won't always for others.

      I think overall it just didn't feel quite as right as some other cars, the dials on the dash, also the armrest hatch was quite creaky under my elbow which was annoying, and quite a bit of hard plastic on lower surfaces. There might have been something else but that's what I remember.

    Personally.....I'd pick the Aion Hyper GT over this. Even though the Dual Motor version on this is more powerful than the Hyper GT, but the Hyper GT feels like a better and more dynamic vehicle to drive, RWD, definitely better kerb-side appeal with those scissor doors and the Panamera GTS 3-piece spoiler.
