My two favorite things about mgr is that it is technically a musical, and that Revengeance is just not a word.

The swordplay looks like if a Star Wars game allowed lore-accurate lightsabers. I would love to play this game, hoping they port it to PS4/5.

As the other have said it's easy to play nowadays, but I agree it does need a re re-release as games that don't get ports are harder to get later

I played this game around its release and remember it being great. I was absolutely baffled when I heard about it becoming just as played in 2019 as it was in 2013. It's funny how curiosity gets people to look into things they were happy to ignore before.
Honestly it’s one of the few games that I think would actually be improved my a remaster. The console limitations at the time made the dreams of the creators unfinished. I would love to see more detail in slicing and better pieces.
Yeah, and things like real time weapon switching.

If i remember the time correctly, The game was originally struggling to find itself while being developed internally by Kojima Productions, so they handed it off to Platinum Games who honed it to action perfection, but it lost those older freeform "cut everything" ideas in the process.
Kinda torn if we lost something great or gained something greater under Platinum, but ultimately they did a bang up job. Blessed Platinum

IIRC, his thing is that he can open a beer with any object he can get his hands on. I seem to recall this being a joke at one time and him opening beers with a billiard ball and stuff like that. Just in case you were interested in enticing him into opening them in any other unique ways lol.

Memes are the reason I finally played the game. I didn't get into metal gear much until then
I know way more about memetics than I probably should so if you're interested, here's a breakdown:
Memes are nothing more than ideas or concepts. The fact they are labelled as memes is inherently redundant. There is no reason to specify them as 'memes'. They are simply thoughts or ideas.
Memes are not the same as facts, although some memes are factual others are not. You could better describe them as rhetoric. They are the very means by which persuasion happens both for and against anything you can imagine.
Memes are just things you communicate to another person. You tell something to someone else and they either accept it, reject it or consider it. The point is that memes are just transmission of information. A joke, a recipe, a way of behaving...
Something that I found very interesting is the idea that memes actually have more influence and agency than people.
Basically, some people assert that human beings are simply vessels that memes occupy. Ideas and concepts infect people and control their actions moving forward.
Anybody who 'believes' something is being guided by the memes that occupy their mind. In this sense, memes are just using your human vessel to act physically. In a sense, they work through you, using you to their own end.
If you believe something, the meme is using you in order to spread. Political views, morality, religion... You will act in accordance to the memes that have infected you and you will express your beliefs which others will either accept, deny or consider. You are just a transmitter of the memes you have accepted.
Human beings die. Memes don't. Even the forgotten ones are always rediscovered. Even if everyone on the planet agrees that an idea is wrong, the idea still exists. It never goes away.
The bottom line is that ideas are powerful. People die for them, people kill for them. Memes aren't just pictures with text on them, or catchphrases, or gifs or jokes. They control all of human behaviour.

The first wave was in 2017-2018 and the people that got into it then boosted the memes gradually peaking with the Max0r “I made it the fuck up”
I very rarely saw any coverage on this game until maxOr made that 2 part masterpiece a few year ago.

I was wondering why it took my father so long to get through Half-Life 2. He spent hours just messing around. Like when piled a bunch of debris in front of a tunnel just to watch the train plow through it, then climbed the hill to see how far he could get.
I think I ended up grabbing MGR because you kept talking about it, I kept hearing it was good pretty much everywhere else, and some guy I follow on Twitter decided to play it and it looked decent from a few screenshots.
I surprisingly saw no memes about it until after I'd played it.
It was like £3-£4, figured if I didn't like it, it wasn't much money so it wouldn't really matter.
Several playthroughs later, I'm still not bored of it.
Ended up playing DMC for the same reasons, figured I'd start with the earlier games as I really wanted to play 5, but I refused to play it until I'd played the previous games.
Kinda glad I did that as I'm not sure I'd like the older games as much as if I started with 5.
Recently went back to 1 and found it more fun than my original playthrough, I still prefer 3 and 5, but 1's still good.
I.. think MGR had memes for it pretty much as soon as it came out. stuff like 'nanomachines, son'
I somehow avoided them I guess.

Memes was also the theme of MGS2. Could you make another Solid Snake by making someone do everything that Solid Snake did without them knowing that they're doing everything that Solid Snake did? The entirety of Big Shell was a cleverly-disguised Shadow Moses replica to make Raiden (who at that point is very familiar with VR simulations of the Shadow Moses incident; fan theory is that Twin Snakes is actually Raiden in the VR simulation he mentions in 2) effectively repeat everything he learned in the simulation in a carefully controlled live-fire exercise without him realizing that he's being led along. Even Snake and Otacon didn't fully realize what was up until the virus was uploaded to GW and the mask came off.
MGS2 wasn't about making another Snake or a Solid Snake Simulation. It was about the game manipulating the player, how emotions and thoughts can be created and manipulated.

If you have a sufficiently strong container you can freeze water to ice-2 or one of the other exotic variants of ice. Mankind has invested a lot of research over a very long time to be able to freeze water without expanding. Apparently it is like a billion times more complicated than people thought and requires very extreme pressure containers.

Another fun science experiments to do at home. Take a glass fill it with water, to the top. After it's full put some ice cubes into it and notice how they float Above the Rim now if you let those ice cubes melt the level of the water in the glass will not spill over because as water becomes liquid from solid it decreases in overall area
Next time your beer starts to foam up too much, stick your finger in it. The impurities will break the surface tension of the bubbles faster

About the glass thing, it's mostly when you put cold stuff in a hot glass that you have it shatter. You can just put a few ice cubes in a glass straight out of the wash and it'll explode if you're unlucky enough.
Thermal shock. Expanding or contracting faster than it can handle. Grab a hot light bulb with a cold wet hand for a first hand experience.

Maaaan I work Fridays. MGR is easily one of my most favourite games, so I feel bad that I can't play along.
I think I recall mgs4 talked a bit about memes back before memes took off. I assumed they were just using the same vocab in revengeance.
I only played revengeance because of how much you talk about it. Its probably the only linear game outside of Force Unleashed that i immediately knew i would replay it multiple times.
hopefully it gets a Dead space type remake in the future, I played it recently based on your recommendation and now I want nothing more for this game to get the AAA treatment it deserves.

If you ever want a truly magical root beer experience, soak a glass mug (in water) and put it in the freezer for a day. When you add the root beer to the mug it freezes , coating the inside
50 seconds in I realized he froze his glass which is odd as I've never seen anyone do it apart from myself. Props to Karl for partaking in the freezing of lager glasses.

The first time I played it I never got very far because I wanted to play on harder difficulties like my friend who got me into Metal Gear did. I eventually revisited it like fuck it, I don't have to prove anything, and played it on easy. Loved it. The story, the gameplay, *the music* , everything. MGS4 too. Great game that I would recommend for anyone interested.

I played MGR Revengence when it came out. Played it on the hardest difficulty first playthrough finished it within the first night
Discussing the trailer, that very much is Kojima's method... if the core idea is 'cut everything', then Kojima will cut all the content. If the core idea is the phantom pain of a missing limb, amputate the second chapter.

With Kojima no-longer with Konami, it's the perfect game to continue as it doesn't require his writing style at all and doesn't affect anything in the main MGS story.

Out of all the greatness of MGR the only sadness attached Was it under performed when it first came out and dashed the hopes of the sequel coming to light if only they could have seen the future on this ones popularity. I probably Play MGR a few times a year Just because the boss fights and there respective Tracks. especially after all the years and you relise more and more details
like that none of the songs during the fight with Armstrong are his song He for purposes doesn't have his own theme {OBV the game labels Standing Here as His theme But if you listen to the lyrics the song is actually raidens}.
I don't recall it underperforming. MGR when it first came out was actually fairly successful. As far as we know, the only thing that prevented the game from receiving a sequel was a combination of behind the scenes drama at Konami, and a shift away from AAA game development at the time.
