Have you considered using a Super Volcano with a 50W heat core?

I have not, for a couple of reasons. I've read a lot of reports of issues with them breaking. More importantly though, I don't think they fill a need for me. The largest nozzle size is 1.4mm, so line width and layer height will be limited by that, and I won't be able to go any larger than I can with the 1.8mm CHT nozzle. That would mean I have to increase speed to take advantage of the 110 mm^3/sec potential flow rates. That would require printing at 50+ mm/sec, which doesn't serve a purpose for the prosthetics I print. I print my PETG with low levels on my cooling fan, so my print would sag and deform from the thermal mass and not cooling layers below fast enough before coming back around for the next layer. And TPU just wouldn't do well at those speeds in my experience. Have you tried it?

@@limbandlattice6487 I appreciate the informative reply. Yes, I've been experimenting- mostly with PETG- and you're right about the cooling issue. External blowers have helped. But, I'd like to try the 1.8mm CHT nozzle, or maybe drill out a larger one. I rarely find anyone who's actually put the Super Volcano to practical use, though I've been searching for over 18 months.

@@terrymueller1041 I have tried drilling out a 1.2mm Volcano up to 1.75mm. It won’t melt material any faster, and the flat end of the nozzle doesn’t get any larger, actually that part gets worse when you drill some away. If your goal is a larger diameter, I definitely recommend just going with the CHT. The internal geometry of it makes all the difference.

@@8azk3ibsi Thanks, Derick. Did you use a 50W heat core with your drilled 1.75mm nozzle?

@@terrymueller1041 I've got multiple printers with Volcano nozzles/heater blocks and different heater cartridges. I'm not sure which ones I actually tried it on
