For anyone wondering like I was, the four inner wheels on the Panhard EBR are metal off-road wheels that can be raised up for on-road driving. I've never seen anything like that before. Since it's an 8x8 they keep spinning even when in the raised position.

It thunders, it bellows, it growls and it howls, and it shrieks - all at the same time. It puts the hair on the back of your neck up. 50 years later, that's still what 'fast' sounds like. It sound like Adrenalin coursing through your veins. It sound like the Devil whispering "Faster!" in your ear... It's the sound of the traffic cop returning his traffic ticket book to the glove box, and coming back with the handcuffs....

I remember as a kid being fascinated by the height of that mirror. You may not realise it, but when aerodynamic wings were in their infancy in F1, some rear wings were that high too. Philipp Herzig a flat engine can also be described as a V engine, as it is a 180° V. It's called flat because the Cylinders are literally horizontally opposed to each other. This layout is called a Boxer layout as the opposed reciprocating pistons resembles fighting boxers fists.
Philipp - Do you know motorcycles at all? Look at a BMW boxer twin. It has the pistons come in together, and go out together. It has the crank pins 180 degrees apart, and so the pistons move in perfect balance. That is a true "boxer" engine. Now think about an American V8. It has 5 main bearings and 4 big ends, and the two pistons & rods share a crank pin. If you made an engine which had the 2 banks directly opposite each other, but retained that layout, with the shared crank pins, that would be a flat 8, which you might also call a 180 degree V8. It would NOT be a boxer. The flat 6 in a Porsche 911 is derived from the BMW motorcycle engine, circa about 1931, and if you join 2 of those early BMWs together, you get a VW Beetle engine. It is a true boxer. If you join 3 of them together, you get a Porsche.

Even without F1 involvement, Subaru had a go at a few ideas, unfortunately one of them was the B11s (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subaru_B11S), which was hailed as being so ugly it was abandoned. Ironically Bugatti released the equally as ugly Veyron two years later, with very similar styling, and it became a cult car? It's unfortunate that each time Subaru tried to release a (dare I say it) 'Super Car' (XT6, SVX, B11s), they all failed for one reason or another, while the follow on model from the economy box Leone, the Impreza, became a world beater as the WRX! I would have loved to see Subaru develop a true supercar, something like an all wheel drive, mid engined flat 8 wedge like a Lamborghini, but we got the BRZ.

Your list is incomplete. You did not mention the Convenanter flat-12 engine by name; it is a Meadows diesel whereas the the Churchill tank you failed to mention was powered by a Bedford flat-12 petrol engine. Time for more research! (and I think there will be more).
