I grew up going to Jefferson Speedway in the early 50's. Fast forward about 40 years and I was working for a dealership in Fort Atkinson. One of customers was an older fellow from Cambridge. He let me know he was interested in racing and I told him I fell in love with it when I was just a little kid. He asked if I knew anything about this "kid" from Cambridge. I said I did not. He told me; "Well his name is Matt Kenseth. I give him some help with his car. And you keep an eye on him. He is going to be really something one of these days" Have never met Matt but I did get to meet his dad at a dealership in Madison.

To me, Matt will always be one of the top 5 drivers I ever saw Drive in NASCAR. Mark Martin, Dale Jr., are 2 more. It wasn’t all about the success, but more how the drove in the race.😊

That was a neat moment at the end. You could feel Rick reminiscing on a lot of life in a short amount of time.

How Did Matt Loss His Sponsor Kraft Foods At The End Of 97 Season Thanks For Uploading Rick And Steve

Think Kraft wanted to go with Derrike Cope in 98. They signed that deal before Matt started getting traction. It was an unknown, untested kid from Wisconsin vs. a Daytona 500 winner who was stepping back (and this almost always produced wins). Think that blew up in Kraft's face. In 99 they were at Roush so they wouldn't get embarrassed any more.

I like that he pretty much stayed the same guy for his entire career. The fame and success never seemed to go to his head.
