    There is no doubt of Helens capabilities right from the first sight of her garden. I so enjoyed the layout, the selection of plants, some I had never seen before, and... the colour. I have no doubt I will be returning in winter months to watch this video again. Rachel you certainly knew this would be the eye candy we were looking for. Thank you Helen and Rachel.

    Thank you Rachel for sharing an inspiring garden and some of the plant names. It gave me a few extra names to add to my wish list! Have a quick question, maybe you can help. To the right handside of that purple Clematis your son likes there's a few pink flower spikes. Do you know what that is? A similar one appears on the video on 1:20 minutes. There's a pink one at the front and slightly dark pink or red one behind it, quite tall flower spikes actually. I'm in love with these two plants, don't know their names... 🤤🥰

    • @GardeningatDouentza
      @GardeningatDouentza  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for watching and commenting. Unfortunately I can't help you with the name of that pink plant. When you described it I thought, surely a salvia! But now looking at it again, it says more veronica to me. Sorry, I really don't know.

    • @diogocorreia4891
      @diogocorreia4891 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could it be that Salvia fistulosa, but again doesn't look like it... Thank you very much for your reply. Thank you for sharing 🥰

      Yes, indeed. Most of us need to learn to live with our mistakes. But I don't think Helen made many mistakes.
      It can work the opposite way too. My mother sold her garden and house in her 60's and was really dying to start anew with a second garden but she found she no longer had the energy and came to regret her decision.
      Thanks for watching and have a nice day.

    Love your garden Rachael! Your stands of alstroemeria is stunning! I've always loved this plant so I'm trying this year to overwinter it in eastern Canada. We'll see if with global warming we can do it. We visited Ireland I believe in 2012 with my father (my mom wanted so much to go to Ireland as on her mother's paternal side they were from the Kildare region) but with health issues, she passed before she was able to do it. My husband & I both loved Ireland so much, we hope to travel there again, as we did a bus tour for about 12 days and didn't get to see the interior of the island. We did get an overnight stay at Wexford but of course had no chance to visit your lovely garden. It is absolutely gorgeous. If we get back there, pandemic allowing, I would love to see it in person. It was only after seeing UK and watching BBC shows on UK gardening that I saw so many plants. And then realized that many of the nurseries here offer them. p.s. love that crazy John Lord. And of course the other notable, Brendan O'Carroll as Mrs. Brown. The only thing better than Irish comedy is Newfoundland, where so many Irish settled. I dare say Newfoundland in some parts is more Irish than Ireland. So you must visit this side of the Atlantic Ocean some time. You'd be amazed how welcoming the Atlantic Provinces of Canada are, very similar to Ireland in warmth & welcoming.

    I didn't know verbena bonarensis could grow that tall! The combination with the similar colour Japanese anemone in front of it goes so well. I like that variegated leaf agave, it is striking and unique looking. That purple clematis is really nice too, I like the cluster of yellow stamens in each flower. Finally, about that ornamental butterfly on the wall - have been seeing a lot of that type it depicts flying about and on flowers where I am up near Belfast. They do like dandelion-family plants like that cosmos and the calendula I have and its great seeing such a showy flower as that with a butterfly on it.

    You've inspired me a bit! I decided just the other day that I was going to take the course in my state (US here) to become a "Master Gardner" with all the knowledge of pests, grow patterns, etc. I primarily have houseplants but want to do a little something with my small front yard so I want to understand more about plants beyond grow zone and hardiness. You just now re-affirmed by decision when you said "pruning group 3" as I have no idea what that means even a little bit. I can't wait for the course sign-ups in November!

    The garden is just beautiful but to me a garden is a place to sit and escape. I don't see any kind of place inviting a person to sit down, stay and enjoy here, though. Putting in a low stone wall or a couple of benches , I think would just make a beautiful garden even better.

    • @GardeningatDouentza
      @GardeningatDouentza  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I understand what you mean about sitting. There are sitting areas in the first and third area of the garden but gardeners seldom sit in their own gardens. They work in them 😂

    She had a spacious greenhouse in her garden! In every winter, does she implant all the tropical plants, which are easy to be frozen, in the container or pot and move them all into the greenhouse? I wonder how she manages the plants in winter.

    • @GardeningatDouentza
      @GardeningatDouentza  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I imagine Helen overwinters tender plants in the greenhouse, however, her climate is very mild so she can leave things outdoors that I could not. I imagine she starts annuals in there in spring too.

  • @1Thedairy
    @1Thedairy 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Beautiful garden! I was wondering what material she used for the paths. Is it consolidated gravel? I’m thinking if it’s a show garden open to the public it would have to be suitable for wheel chair access.

    • @GardeningatDouentza
      @GardeningatDouentza  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am sorry but I do not know what is used for the paths in the Dillon Garden. It is a small garden so does not need to be suitable for wheelchair access. Check the website (in the video details) for more information.
