  • I was wrong about the the 3rd gen Tacoma. For about a year now I have been preaching that now is a great time to buy the 3rd gen since all the bugs have been worked out..well I guess that is not the case.

not worried. they couldve easily swept this under the rug. Ive heard ZERO reports on the tacomas axle on almost ALL of the forums. The fact that they jumped out ahead of it is great. If it were a an engine or transmission recall they would HAVE to jump out ahead. My 22 is apart of the recall. I already inspected it myself and retorqued the nut. No slag and also wasnt loose. I will have toyota check anyway so its in the paper trail though. Good character is what someone does while no one is looking. Consumers werent looking or complaining and Toyota still did the right thing even though they will take a hit from it. Its not the mistake that makes or breaks a company. Its the response to the mistake that will make or break it. Ignorant people will freak out, the informed wont.

If you really think that some extra welding junk on some random rear axles means you were "WRONG about the 3rd gen tacoma" - then maybe you should just go trade yours for a Chevy or something. Then get back to us.

The way I read the memo was that they are working a fix that's why their waiting until Mid-April to notify affected trucks. I have the Toyota app and my 22 offroad 4x4 is on the recall list. Still better than a Ford!!! No Auto maker has a great QC. Most workers don't care and won't do their job they just want a paycheck and go back to mom's couch to watch TikTok!!

Mine's was 2023 and was recalled but after taking it Toyota, the are aware but said they can't do anything as of right now until Toyota comes out with a fix. So I'm just thinking I might as well take it to my local garage shop and have then look it over and retorque the bolts and help me finish that case of ice cold beer!

Basically all new vehicles produced since about 2020 are suspect. The entire industry has shifted to worse QC, lower quality parts, extreme over-complication, "feature" overload, and sky rocketing prices. Toyota is better than most, but not immune from this shift. Toyota has gotten worse, but the others have gotten worser...er. Ford and Chevy can't even ship/sell some of their flagship vehicles right now. I'd be very careful about buying a new vehicle right now across the board. Get an extended warranty if you can.

    • @ModernDayViking

That's true, I don't really pay to much attention to what other brands are up to. Maybe I should check in it rather than looking at Toyota in a vacuum.

Meh.... To error is human. Humans make mistakes. Things happen.
At least Toyota got out in front of the issue and was honest. And, they are going to take care of it. I think people in general are making too big of a deal about this issue. IMO.

It's a hit none the less on the Toyota reliability badge and should be documented. The only reason why people buy these underpowered overpriced mid sized trucks is due to the reliability claim.
