I think you would really like "I Know It's Over" "Rubber Ring" and Barbarism Begins At Home" best to watch the live version of that one as it's a really fantastic performance showing the band and Morrissey onstage in all his glory! I went to the hospital to visit my girlfriend who was getting her tonsils removed. So, I purposely brought this song to listen to on the way, I wanted to leave her with a humourous tale, cause she was spending the night at the hospital. She didn't see the humour, but she did pull through.
It's wit, not the same as "funny". Wit like Oscar Wilde, who Morrissey was influenced by. Dark humor but subtle. BTW, lyric videos and the pictures in them do not come from the band. They are fan videos that usually have misspellings and pictures that don't really represent the song.
They made songs for the highly intelligent. The song is ultra dark because its written from the point of view of a guy who just beat the shit out of his gf and she is in a terminal coma and about to die so he first doesn't want to see what he has done then he decides that he wants to whisper his last goodbyes and he starts out in denial but he knows deep down its serious this time.
Very honest brother. You made me laugh out loud. Do you need more of the Smiths in your life. Try Morrissey solo maybe something is squeezing my skull.
But is he serious? Moz is gay and in the closet back then, so if his girlfriend died would he really be sad? At least that is how I interpret it when I analyzed it years later, with knowledge in hand. Makes it even more brilliant from that lens.

this is one of the first EMO songs. nothing light or humorous about it. listen again and again. 'let me whisper my last goodbyes' is not happy
