I’ve often pondered the question , if I was on a dessert island and could only listen to one artist’s music who would it be? The answer was always Curtis Mayfield. Between all the stuff from the Impressions and his solo music it never get tired of it
One of the most under rated musicians of our time a music lyric genius soft spoken man w/ lots of righties wisdom growing up in and around the church + having political, legal , and street smarts what made him a lyric genius expressing undeniable Fax(facts) he's to me my top 3 musician performer's in history because fax are full of negative he remains uplifting and positive leading us to the light under the tunnel full of love and inspiration dig this dude love his music lots of percussion bongos congas being latino I dig his sound mixing it w/ my salsa music God bless this man
I always loved Curtis' delivery of a lyric,.... proclamatory, giving witness, revealing often difficult truths, building up stories, celebrating and communicating spirit. A crowd pleaser yes, but because he could nail the centre of truths with enormous heart.
He needs too go down in history has one of the best, I miss him very much, I could listen to this man everyday of life, Curtis my man everyday, the greatest too ever live on this plant, we need to have Curtis mayfield day every year, nation wide
Back in the 70's he came to Milwaukee with Linda clifford. The place was packed I walked to the front of the stage with my camera and Curtis posed and pointed at me.Wish I could find that photo, priceless RIP my brother. Those were the days.
Curtis Mayfield was the sweetest man, and a great songwriter. Heard him at a small venue in the mid 80s, I get a great warm feeling just thinking about it.
I agee he left a permanent imprint in my soul with his lyrics music speaking truth about the streets injustices corrupted politicians policing that scars our bubble gum democracy I'm sure he had threats from Gov which they do to other musicians who record song about social injustice lots of cojones knowing he has GOD on his side love this dude music still works for this current events today
Have been listening so many times to his music, and especially this concert is so impressive...So good we can see it also!🤗 Music can be healing.❤🧜🏼♀️
@@randysimmons4378 Dear Randy, When music makes you cry, that's allright. Tears heal, just like music does. But...after that: you have to laugh also. Because life is all about a tear and a laugh. And love.. Wish you all the good. A big hugg from me🤗💞💝Keep strong and healthy💪👍

Great album and video - I discovered the live album of this more than a decade ago and have loved it ever since. The take of Billy Jack here is so sparse, tight, funky and hauntingly powerful - the bleak finality in his voice as he sings "his life's run out of time" and "shot in the chest"! and those solos!
@@AFaceintheCrowd01 Makes me think of the killer show I saw with DeeDee Bridgewater and the in-house big band at Tivoli in Copenhagen around fifteen years ago: she's been based in France for many years and clearly feels she is better understood there. An absolutely amazing show ranging from blues and gospel to songs from her Kurt Weill album. What a VOICE - both booming, rich and subtle!
In 1988 I had the oppertunity to see this tour in The Trojan horse in the Hague in the Netherlands. Got the record people get ready and played along on my drums .... hours and hours . thanks for sharing this vid.
Wonderfull concert. wonderfull musician(s) wonderfull music, wonderfull person.... (I only wish would be that the sound would be better) Still all together with the interview (paul weller) its a wonderfull memorie of the 1988 concert
This video made me ask myself a very important question, we eventually have to face, as the years go by : Am I going fucking deaf ? .... or did the poster simply mix the volume down to a whisper ?
+The30Zone well, besides the congas and bongos I think what you're referring to are the talking drums. don't know the "official" name but google that and you should find it. it's probably a syntnetic skin frame turnable drum in a stand. see if you can find it here: www.steveweissmusic.com/product/remo-tablatone/hand-drums

Mines Bob for sure, song for every mood just like Curtis
"You Just Can't Make This 💩 Up"!
Where did we go wrong without music and the message of our ancestor struggles?
Loved Curtis ❤❤

AMAZING GRACE!
Pity I never saw him live even though I played him a lot on radio in the early seventies. Rest in peace brother!

I dance to His Song for my Wedding in 1971 Happy Day!!!!!!!
Love him. So brilliant with the delivery, he knew how to come across without having to preach.
You just already know that it’s truth he’s singing
MAN! This is beautiful!
Truly, one of the best of all time. R.I.P. dear Curtis.
10 people thumbed it down? This is a great show small & intimate.

Some people aren’t sure how it works or accidentally press those thumb things.

What a talent The One and only Mr .Curtis Mayfield
A musical master. Simple.
Saw him the next evening, buying 2 x Guiness and a libation for the love of my life when the intro to Move on up started
I met him the next day in Harvey Nichols and spoke to him. Lovely man.
A legend before and during his time......
Curtis Mayfield was absolutely stupendous as always!

Yet another beautiful Black artist discarded in his own country in favor of (c)rap and clip-clop and the choreographed drivel of Beyoncé and her ilk.

Genius and such a wise and nice fellow when you watch documentaries. One and only!
A "Complete Musician" & author, apart from many other gems, of that brilliant anthem "A Change in Gonna Come"... RIP unique Soul.
John Knottenbelt Wrong! Sam Cooke wrote A Change Is Gonna Come. Curtis wrote the classics People Get Ready and We’re A Winner among many others.

Fantastic. His profile should be on Mt. Rushmore, along with Muddy, Chuck, Marvin and many others. Beautiful interview, too.

Bro, you need to edit the sound, raise it a little.
What year was this? Saw him in Sweden 1986 or 87.
What year was this? Henry Gibson I thought played on the 1987 album ''Live In Europe'' Great stuff!!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I wish his mic worked better. As it is his voice is almost drowned out.
Being interviewed here by Paul Weller
That bass player is killing that bass guitar
CURTIS...PLEASE!!!
If MLK sang and played, this is what it would be like. RIP Curtis.
I understand, those keys do not bring justice to the track's missing funky horns...yet...ooooh yeah..
How come I am the only one that notice that Curtis' sound changed when he got the white musicians to play behind him?
anybody knows what that percussion instrument is called he uses in Pusherman??!
