  • Jeff invites Eric onto the stage sparking rapturous applause. They play beautiful renditions of "Little Brown Bird" and "You Need Love" both Muddy Waters singles, the latter of which was ultimately revised and covered by Led Zeppelin as "Whole Lotta Love".
    The link for the full set can be found below. One of Jeff's most intimate performances and self admittedly one of his most nerve wracking too.

Must have been staggering to just be there & so close). You hear far too much "Who's the best?" rubbish when it comes to these 2 (and others). The Clapton haters, etc. It's all a waste of space. Why need a best? They're too different to compare in such a way. Both geniuses in their own realms. There's so much more to consider when talking about guitarists. I respect them both enormously. I doubt either one of them (once old enough) ever thought in terms of who's the better player?

Have the opportunity, for those who have never had it, to be part of exhibitions and concerts any time you want. Witnesses of historic and unrepeatable moments like this evening. Two great artists and guitarists but Jeff remains above all for me. Hendrix and he took the guitar to another level. Their way of playing has influenced generations of guitarists and still today they leave indelible trails on new guitarist generations even, this is my opinion, they will remain inaccessible. Beck is practically unique. We should invent his avatar. But luckily the internet and youtube will be able to bear witness to the countless masterpieces they have left us. They will live forever...

Love me that playing - she isn't the least intimidated by her band mates. I can't say enough about this player. (Since then she's started doing vocals; very serviceable, but nothing like her playing.)

      Mark W Jeff’s a great guitarist. Hendrix has his place in history, probably more for stage pyrotechnics and effects than actual playing. Jimi’s inadequacies as a guitarist show up when he tried acoustic-way overrated as a musician. Too many genres, too many metrics to name a single greatest, but all one has to do is watch a brief Gary Moore “shredding blues, rock, jazz” video, or Danny Gatton’s “compilation” or Red Neck Jazz” or consider Jerry Reed, Chet, SRV, Joe Pass, Roy Buchanan, & others to know that Beck, Hendrix have a lot of company at the top.

    • @MarkWweSwinger
      @MarkWweSwinger 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Heavy Mental Did you get to see Jimi play live? The pyrotechnics were showbiz, just to get things started. At the Fillmore or similar venues the band played very creative and soulful. Lots of very quiet passages where you could hear just how sweet he could play. I’ve been disappointed over the years at how little of that music has been made public. Jimi as a blues/jazz musician just doesn’t have the commercial appeal. 😎

    • @commanderthorkilj.amundsen3426
      @commanderthorkilj.amundsen3426 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark W I also saw people get up and leave his concerts due to the repetitiousness of certain amelodic lines and riffs that seem to go nowhere. The ere he lived, rebellion against the establishment, anti war, racial strife, drugs, freedom of expression, stage theatrics, electric effects, and folklore leads folks to place him on a pedestal. Seat Hendrix, unplugged, on your divan, next to any of dozens of other players and he shrinks. Seeing Terry Kath in ‘69 at Fillmore west up close, later, Danny Gatton in ‘77 the night “Humbler Stakes His Claim”was recorded, and SRV numerous times, up close, I forgot about Hendrix.

    Check out Muddy Waters’ original version of this song, in a scratchy recording on TH-cam. Phenomenal. The blues is such a rich, rich tradition. These two great artists respect, even revere it. Rare to hear Beck play blues, but he ‘knows his way around a Stratocaster’ for blues also.
