When you specify that someone monitor an event which requires counting, they reasonably spend more effort on that event and less on the remainder of the scene. A better test might be viewing the video first and asking questions afterward regarding observations. This seems more like a test of multi-tasking. I enjoyed playing the game though.
Somebody doesn't understand basic psychology. If you notice the additional things it's by pure happenstance, not because you are more or less observant. This is not an observation test beyond counting people in orange shirts who get subs. If you got this right, you're as observant as everybody else who also got it right. If you noticed the additional things, you are not more observant, you are luckier anybody, no matter how observant or not, are just as likely as near everybody else to notice these things as well. Don't @me, I'm a psychology major and have spent years studying these types of things. In fact, making a video like this is one of the things we do in our first year, as well as write an essay on all the flaws with this type of observational test. @@Zodroo_Tint

Im mind fucked because I haven't trained my mind enough to multitask on my surroundings when a question is asked? So once a question is asked I need to still have my awareness on the surroundings of the subs being thrown at a fast pace. I might not have seen the background change. I know what is selective attention is... so i dont bother counting the orange shirts. I saw the change in pizza and the bag. I didnt notice the glasses cause i dont care about the dude😅
In the real world, I wouldn’t be paying attention to people getting food from a food truck. I’d pay my attention toward suspicious or potentially suspicious activity such as the bag being left on the ground. Also, the truck changed as soon as you stepped in and frames changed. The truck didn’t pull away and get replaced which I could admit. Regardless, I counted 8 orange shirts getting a sub so I guess I can’t count or someone that previously grabbed a sub came back which wouldn’t qualify as “another” person.

This is a good example of situational awareness. This video shows people how to see what is happening in the background, outside of their main focus and attention. Using these type of techniques when people are out in their daily activities can help them be aware of what is going on in their surroundings
No one in usual situations would count how many certain people do something. lol. Most people would be curious why people are being tossed free food and attempt to catch some for themselves. So a more accurate test of situational awareness would be to give no silly mission and simply say, “Check out this video.” And then explain at the end.

I'm absolutely terrible at this and came here after searching for how to improve my situational awareness. I thought I did good and realized I failed miserably. I took the Myers Briggs 4 letters test, and it told me that I get so lost in thought that it is actually dangerous for me. But the answer was to deliberately step out of my comfort zone and put myself into situations that require situational awareness like sports.
If you're priming people to look at x doing y of course they're going to miss A-W and Z. I hope this isn't one of those tests that's extrapolated to conclude "the testimony of folks in high stress situations is therefore untrustworthy".
that's just not how it works since almost all of the things happening are off. picking up things that are off is good but that's just too many things. no one just gets thrown a sub, neither are that many subs gonna be prepared in that timespan and nobody seems to be paying. the placement of the trucks in terms of their orientation to each other is weird as well. giving a task that ocupies your mind artificially from the get go just doesn't get meaningful results

Each time you view the video, you can see more of what is going on in the background. It is a good way to increase what you see when you are out and about in everyday activities.

The change was provided just as an example of something going on in the background that you may or may not have been able to see. Either way this is a great exercise to see if you can pick up everything that is happening in the scene

Even if you don't see everything going on, just seeing a couple of additional things going on in the background is a big plus to your Situational Awareness. Those little tidbits of information are what law enforcement agencies need and use to solve crimes.

I do know that's a lot of people are afraid of just about everything they're afraid of their own shadow and they're afraid that something's going to happen to them but yet they never think about their Eternal salvation they always think about the now. it was by the fear of the Lord and the belief in God back to the Old Testament and during the time of Jesus that these people were so bold and brave to go out in the crazy world back then and preach the gospel

The video is a good test of what you can see happening around you. Not necessarily anything suspicious going on, yet it is good to be aware of what is happening in your immediate area.
The general idea of See Something, Say Something is for when people see something that appears really out of place, they should not ignore it and if it appears to be a danger to public safety, to report it to law enforcement.
It is fun to watch and see what background activity is actually going on. Watching this can helpyou do the same thing in the real world as you go about your everyday travels.

One orange shirt goes up and grabs a drink at the same time another one grabs a sub. This is where the additional 8th comes from.

Putting yourself in a sports environment is a great idea. A lot goes on around you that you have to be aware of.

When you walk with the Lord and you believe God you have no reason to fear anyone and therefore you don't worry too much about your surroundings.
I do know that's a lot of people are afraid of just about everything they're afraid of their own shadow and they're afraid that something's going to happen to them but yet they never think about their Eternal salvation they always think about the now.
it was by the fear of the Lord and the belief in God back to the Old Testament and during the time of Jesus that these people were so bold and brave to go out in the crazy world back then and preach the gospel

The video is a good test of what you can see happening around you. Not necessarily anything suspicious going on, yet it is good to be aware of what is happening in your immediate area.

The general idea of See Something, Say Something is for when people see something that appears really out of place, they should not ignore it and if it appears to be a danger to public safety, to report it to law enforcement.

That's too much for most people to even comprehend. I went to Subway yesterday five people left the door standing open did not even attempt to close it AC women in stores blocking aisles with their shopping cart because they're too busy on shopping instead of paying attention to their surroundings
You are right. A lot of people do not seem to know what is going on right beside them. All we can do is to be sure we are not like that and are aware of other people and what is going on around us
