btw one random thing you could have easily added as a distraction would have been a cart driving itself around the room be it making donuts, a 17 point turn or an actual loop around the room it would have been the most distractive since it would constantly move
The gold is a good idea but I’d say if you want to use bright or shiny materials darken the rest of the base to make the color pop more, add points of interest and even it out. A dark grey or black base with minimal detailing but very busy highly saturated and detailed elements would be nice
You just kinda have to choose between saturated base with dark spots and dark base with saturated spots. If you try to do both the colors will meld too much together and end up looking flat. Contrast is everything
A personal recommendation for you in the long term. Don't hide a lot of your conveyor belt lifts going into your base. the Mk6 belt lifts look AMAZING from far away especially when there's a big tower of them together. The glow will pulse slowly in the belts direction and add more psuedo-movement you are looking for even if the items on the belt are backed up.
The gold does feel like it lacks a touch of contrast, especially from a distance. That said, I don't think the alternative metal coatings Kibz tried were much of an improvement on that front... maybe one of the alternative material paints would work better?
I love the look at 17:00, Iits like looking down at a sky bridge in between two buildings in some dystopian city, and I hope there is more of that! (Love the vids keep them up)
Love me some decorating videos, not only is it a nice breath of air between all the automation it also gives incredible feedback and ideas. Awesome seeing all your thought processes behind the designs
13:38 The offwhite color of the foundations doesn’t lend itself to the lustrous metal colors, which is why the carbon steel works so well with it. If you want to use the shiny metals, you’d need to recolor the outer foundations to either brilliant white (compare) or a matte black (contrast).
The color trick has been around for several updates. But you are NOT limited to just a few colors! Only take the center bar up to 1.5, NOT all those crazy high values and you keep access to the full color wheel while keeping the same bold bright colors! It's only when you take the values higher, actually 3 and higher that it ultra saturates the color option to where you get all the limited colors as its the same as taking an image and boosting its contrast stupid high. But even 1.5 gives you the same ultra bright colors as you would cranking it up really high, but without removing the ability to have ALL the colors that are also effected by the bottom bar to change the darkness.
A good alternative for the gold I believe would be a mirror finish, you will get great colors, it will kind of blend in the landscape by part which will contrast with the concrete towers and finally you have a nice visual effect because colors changes when you move.
If you want an over-the-top suggestion for something to add to your base, then you could add a garage with all of the land-based vehicles. (minus the choo)
I love the gold accents, but something I noticed is that the carbon steel is like the same shade as the shadows. You were talking about using the black to create depth, but if you used the carbon steel, it would look more like the actual shadows and might blend better.
Your videos are INSANE you gave me so much inspiration with your other let’s play. I’m always super happy to see that you made another video. I hope this série will last long.
Hey kib. Just want to say I really like the video of your process of building walls so factory. Its the part I struggle with the most so its great to see your though process on it
Been playing a long time and these are the videos I love. I know how to balance and build for efficiency. I'm even decent at making things look cool. I like seeing how other builders attack the big design choices and how their brain works. This is the kind of content I appreciate from Kibitz over the years of early access and the kind of stuff I look forward to with his new videos.
Your new factory aesthetic really reminds me of the Forerunner installations in the old halo series. Especially the gold accents with the concrete. Really awesome!
Hey Kibitz. I'm Aurelio, huge fan. And Au is gold. My hole base is golden. I fill it with yellow lights and signs so it shine. Even my trains are golden. They fill my eyes with tenderness. Try to aim some yellow glow at your golded things, it will shine it up.
As I’ve been experimenting with decoration I’m quickly learning the power of pillars, especially when it comes to adding depth. You can make walls out of pillars, use beams to make them go whatever angle you’d like, clip them into each other, and all sorts. They’re very versatile. The concrete pillars can even take color swatches, and the new metallic finishes work great on them.
Gotta say, Kibitz's building skills are really starting to come long! Really adding some extra interest to the series besides the regular factory madness.
The multiple towers smushed together is a great idea, you can try and build all the mid-late game items in each tower (Super Computers, RCUs, Turbo Motors, Pressure Cubes etc) and converge them at the top for T9. If you bring in premanufactured parts you can keep the machine density in check.
A small suggestion, hope you like it. Keep the gold or carbon steel, but push in-between more inward relative to the main 3 pillars to create more depth feel. Lastly, use the sign or belt mk6 to illuminate the gold to make them shine from the depth. Kinda like the PS5, the blue LED light shines from the inside.
That portal room really gave me the vibes of the beginnings of a future playthrough where you build everything reminiscent of religious gothic architecture. For a visual example, 40k.
The gold color is a definite yes. The concrete feels a bit light in contrast though; could it be darkened up I wonder? Easy for me to say, I wouldn't have to go through repainting everything.
Goddamn that belt is blinding! I learned about the color swatches from some rando tips video, but I definitely hadn't considered how it would affect anything with emissive light. Kinda wanna poke around in creative now to see if any other items benefit from this...
Cross hatch steel frame ramp and inverted ramp for supports on towers. Angles will break it up, and different heights and frames between or not between the ramps let them flex to fit the space. Can even have triangle beams to truss structures together.
Speaking of the water fall, have a look at a house called the falling water, maybe a lil idea for the water fall place and you could make something to look good and dystopian
18:00 Make it four wide and simply rotate the hub 90 degrees. It's not only two tiles wide. It's four tiles long. 19:00 Also, I like the gold highlights but the random gold square above the door is weird. If the door was just stacked up on top of itself a couple more times then it'd look like a big gate. Gold highlights around the gate would be neat. It's just the amount of space the indent takes up makes it weird that the door is so small. Like it was just done to make space for a giant gold plate to show off wealth. Of which I'd still make a giant fuck off gate and then just surround the gate with gold. Or I'd just make the giant fuck off gate itself gold. Yeah, I like that, a giant fuck off gold gate. With that bridge coming out the front we can name it "The Golden Gate Bridge". At least this one would have an actual golden gate. 21:00 Bro, you should have lined up the outer door to the inner door first thing. Shame. 24:00 Oh yeah? How does it feel that you could have done all of this cool stuff with the jelly hole and conveyer walls and had the doors lined up? hehe xdd
I think the grey is cool, the gold weirdly blends into the building more than the grey did anyways, I think if you add some lights, like some red lights into the building, that could help break it up, add depth, and the splash of color into the build that you’re looking for
At 22:41 or rounds about, maybe make that between platform look like a hall in a airport terminal? Like, each of the stations is a little kiosk or shop you use going between things.
The cool thing you can do I learned in my playthrough is you can do double walls using the metal frame four, you can micro nudge it and put a wall, see the clips. If it does, remove it, move it a little bit more and rinse the repeat until it's a double wall
I think the copper finish looks better, especially since red is your color. The gold finish is cool too, but it's hard to judge right now because it has less contrast than the copper, making it feel a bit bland. It'll be easier to decide once you've built more of the towers.
duuuude that pic of your first base took me back! I haven't kept up much since the 2nd playthrough but god damn I loved the blocky haphazard design. Though I tend towards chaos for practicalities sake in any game where I can build a structure xD
Idk how well it plays with the sides, but making middle strip coated concrete and red may give it the pop youre looking for. A bit of color goes a long way to accent the brutalism of the rest of the build imo
I think it'd be really cool to have drones flying in and out of the base, just to add some more movement around :D Who cares about efficiency anyway, when you can have *_aesthetics_*
Perhaps you could use the "workshop" space between the storage and the HUB for the blueprint machine? It would fill up a lot of space and make it feel like a place where you tinker around in close proximity to storage and upgrades before going out into the world.
make each tower have its own finish, like one tower have the copper finish and one tower have chrome finish etc, so they look more visually distinct from each other
Cool to see that you saw the colour trick i commented on your last video (or even if you learned it from someone else) Excited to see what youll come up with for the base and in the future :) - a long time fan
Something I was thinking on the last video, something I did on my main base. The HUB; why not build it inside, but, build like a chute/chimney for the rocket to fire up into. Clipping walls into the HUB so you don't actually see the rocket while inside. Just a thought.
0:54 I really hope they do not fix that bug. That's fun and cannot break anyone's game. Also, it cannot be done accidentally, so there's not really any reason whatsoever to fix it. If they ever touch that bug, it should be towards leveraging it, but never squishing it.

I was gonna say something similar. The bright walls hide the flashy highlights too much. Need a darker highlight or a darker wall.
Maybe paint all the concrete with carbon steel and the accent stripes could be copper, gold, chrome, etc
Kibtz has the most self control I've seen anyone have to manage two addictive games at once
Nah this isnt self control, bro plays factory games like junkies shoot heroin. I envy you Mr. Kibbitz.

You have a very interesting brutalist style of building, when I play I aim for a more of a steampunk feel!
the inlay would look better in the brass coloring, the gold it just comes across as a more pale concrete, but the brass? that would stand out!
The gold does feel like it lacks a touch of contrast, especially from a distance. That said, I don't think the alternative metal coatings Kibz tried were much of an improvement on that front... maybe one of the alternative material paints would work better?

Maybe add something solid inside the metal frame columns between the tower layers to make it look more sturdy. Maybe some metallic colored pillars?
Speaking of the water fall, have a look at a house called the falling water, maybe a lil idea for the water fall place and you could make something to look good and dystopian

Kibs is an architect at this point, all he needs is a structural engineer.
You can get quite a few more shades of color if you use a more reasonable figure when customizing the swatch.
The gold is very TYRELL CORP. from blade runner. Might be worth setting the time of day slightly lower to really push the blade runner vibe.
