People love to talk about how it’s uncreative as a design but they’ve obviously never heard of a mimics. As for the eyes, they are pretty much what alot of gen one mons had and i think the self destructing is just to troll the player which is pretty typical of mimics.

I was really hoping he'd be ghost/grass type finally proving the possession theory.

@Christopher McGaughey Yeah I see how cool that would be but if it's based on another mythology in Japanese lore it wouldn't quite line up which is just as interesting in a mysterious sort of way. As opposed to the spooky possession thing. I liked both theories it was just a matter of which one they'd choose to go with.

Same I like that they paid attention to voltorb and changed him to match the era of poke balls. I hope they expend on some of the Pokémon mysteries like this one

Voltorb was inspired by the spheres (orbs) in the high voltage cables of the electrical towers

I personally enjoy the simplistic and humble designs of most Gen 1 & 2 Pokemon over the sometimes bizarre designs more common as the gens wore on. Like you mentioned, many from the early days were based on animals and legends. Pokemon are often viewed as similar to pets, but its hard to see that in many more recent mons. Lastly, I'm not saying the new games are bad or 'gen wars,' I just notice something special that seems to be slipping away.

It could also be explained by pokémon that were stored in pokeballs for so long that their energy and mutated and merged with the pokeball

What if Voltorb is the product of someone abandoning a captured pokemon still in its PokeBall? I know it's kind of dark, but I've wondered what the relationship between a pokemon and the PokeBall it's in is like.

To me it almost seems like they shot themselves in the foot with these new entries,, SO MANY pokemon are things that were Nothing, and then came to life.. MUK is actually an example of that, Toxic muk that came to life from moons rays.. Pokeball hit by a pulse to make voltorb, Kids DYING and becoming pumkin pokemon, Humans dying and becoming yamasks.. That would make the LAWS OF PHYISICS For this worlds TERRIFYING, At any point in time YOU COULD BECOME A POKEMON! Or Your LETTER OPENER COULD BECOME A POKEMON. It just ugh cheapens the whole mystery of pokemon, the "actuals" i'll call them since I have no other word for real pokemon, So the "actuals" made pokemon mysterious, then saying all came from mew, bam squashed that, they blew up there own thread that could have kept weaking a mystery throughout the shw and game, What they could do now is for a finale, They are inside a game, and they realize this, it makes sense to them since they have these link cables and pokemn can be put into computers like data even though they are living things, wonder why we can put a ghost in. SD. card... LOL or better than that 4th wall breaking, or rather I guess a game device can be called the 5th wall lol You could have an explanation that pokemon are part of a digital universe parallel to ours, explaining many characteristics, Again Those would be bottom 2 since they already blew up their first chance with these pokedex entries. Point is pokemon isn't cool if ordinary things and people can just BE pokemon.. a Pokemon might as well just be a mysterious force that turns things into pokemon, there thats the answer pokemon come from a force that turns beings and static tools and goop into pokemon giving them a spirit.. Bleh.
