no, Spurs against city play a drop back 3 4 2 1, when without possesion a 5-4-1, they never play 5-5-0, the reason atletico failed is because griezman is slow and Felix is not fast enough to beat the likes of walker and cancelo, Spurs have Much Faster players in kulisevski and son to make runs in behind once possesion is regained, and since kane is not the fastest, he is usually the Player to long the ball in for son and kulisevski, and also unlike atletico's 5-4-1, Contes 5 4 1 presses when the oppurtunity more, but make sure not to commit to much people. I just saw the elements of this formation in the copa del rey match btw barca and madrid were Barcelona was defending by using 1-4-5 formation were on 1 player on the front and the others on the defensive lines , this formation was were helpful against real madrid who were attacking with possession. What simone did is crazy but a good tactical move but he lost the match, while what xavi did is that the striker will be at front and others on the defensive line, this paid off,as during the counter attack the striker and wingers will make the run which attract the defenders and cdms which will enable the cms to be not noticed or not marked which means that they are free and are a much better position to strike. This why Barcelona beat real madrid.
It’s a playoff game. This matches are played smartly. Knowing that you’re closing the leg at home, this game was meant not to try to lose, but if losing, lose by the minimal. Knowing that you’re playing for the champions league spot in the league, since they’ll never win it, course. Makes this, to me, a cautious, yet clever game by someone. To have Atlético's players and refuse to fight for possession is outrageous. Simeone is a great match killer. Yes, can be effective, but play like this and no one is watching football in two months. Liked the bubble music. Good video.
Simeone is a genious, but this 5-5-0 I saw it before in Arteta in his first seasons, and the last time I remember was vs Chelsea last year all 2nd half winning 0-1.
