This makes me so fucking sad man. The tragedy of Sanguinius is one of the main reasons I became a 40k fan, because it's such a beautiful tale of a man losing his life in a sacrifice against his brothers, for his genuine belief in the betterment of humankind. He honestly, and truly believed humans could be more than what we were and are, that there is a chance at finding the peaks of our humanity in what we did. The degeneration of the Imperium only serves to drive that point further, as, in the pursuit for survival, the gifts of humankind that he professed were trampled over, and in many hive worlds, forgotten.

"Gathered from distant war zones across the galaxy, it took many solar months for each disparate band of the IXth Legion to be found and recalled. It would be two standard years and four solar months before the gathering was complete, and on the storm-wracked world of Teghar, an army of grim killers with the faces of angels assembled, eagerly awaiting a new slaughter of which to partake. The captains of the Revenant Legion, the Great Crusades' blood-soaked angels, gathered as Stormbird transports bearing the mark of the Luna Wolves descended from orbit. From within came a troop of warriors clad in the white of Horus' own Legion, yet the one at their head was not Horus, though by his stature he was a true son of the Emperor and one of His Primarchs. Great white wings unfolded and Sanguinius revealed himself to his gene-sons, his sculpted features the very image of those that thronged about him. Sanguinius beheld the gathered warriors of the IXth each bearing the scars of unrelenting battle both on their proud faces and in the dark recesses of their spirits. These were not men to be impressed by the pomp and ceremony of his escort, nor by simple strength of arms. The winged Primarch, amid the rain and storms of that far world, took a knee before the rough-cast killers and scarred blood-drinkers and, rather than demand their allegiance, he offered them his own. The warriors who had offered up everything to the new Imperium and in return been granted only scorn and mistrust, were now offered a Primarch's loyalty, given freely and without reservation. Sanguinius had won their devotion with his actions, and to seal them to him he led the assembled Legion on their first campaign together, standing in the front lines of battle where his valour spoke for the sincerity of his pledge."

"In the battle that followed, Horus was finally vanquished, though the Emperor had also been mortally wounded and was near to death. There are many tales told of this final battle and, though the exact facts are long lost, one detail holds through all the recitations of the millennia since. Despite the Emperor's great power, he could never have bested Horus had not the blade of Sanguinius wrought a chink in the Warmaster's armour, and because of this, the Blood Angels claim their gene father to be the greatest of all Primarchs."
@@adonyestimon4392 it is also said there may have been a lone guardsman that stood up to Horus to protect the Emperor. When he was callously struck down that snapped the Emperor out of his hesitation. Though who is to say if this is 100% true?
"A chink in his armour" could mean many a thing. And I do not think something as inconsequential as an armor would mean anything in a battle between gods. More likely, killing Sanguinius opened a weakness in Horus's soul. For even he could not bear the guilt of laying low the Angel. And the Emperor needed no other gate to win the fight, than a traitor's sorrow.
@@alricmalicorne321 I actually quite like this. Seeing Horus's guilt could be the reason the Emperor hesitated, thinking that maybe he could be redeemed. @Icebreaker That lone guardsman was another perpetual like the Emperor named Ollanius Pius who had been with him since the unification wars and was said to be even older than Emps. He knew he was going to die a violent death, dying meant for him only a regret of not being able to do more for his own, there was no glory in his death because he could not stay afterwards. Even knowing that, he performed the greatest act of love there can be, to give your life for others. As the blood and the last breath left his body, there was a feeling of helplessness of not being able to accomplish more. Knowing that your sacrifice will not be enough but still doing it is the greatest act of faith there can be.
This music reminds me of when Seth shows Sentor Jool (a renegade blood angels successor chapter master and full embracer of the red thirst) Amit’s reliquary that contains a feather of Sanguinius, and it takes a blood thirsty murderer who is for all intents and purposes a traitor and soothes the rage and makes him weep. I’ve always loved the blood angels because they all try so hard to be good people and embody the best in humanity despite the rage. It really adds another layer of tragedy to them when they see glimpses of their primarch and can be brought back from the rage for just a moment so that the facade they all wear as space marines slips and they grieve for what once was.
Rage is a necessary motivator in a corrupt world, an impossible motivator to bump you into impossible discipline. Life does not question why it lives--it just does.

Didnt the Emperor have the chance to kill Horus but hesitated for a second, so Horus took advantage and struck him down?
Only for chaos to reassert itself and crush the last noble part of Horus's soul. Seeing that, the last shard of his favourite son's spirit being destroyed, the Emperor resolves to finish it.
@Icebreaker That lone guardsman was another perpetual like the Emperor named Ollanius Pius who had been with him since the unification wars and was said to be even older than Emps. The Emperor respected him so much that he even made a religious exception for him, and Ollanius was killed by Horus whilst still wearing the catholic cross around his neck.

As the blood and the last breath left his body, there was a feeling of helplessness of not being able to accomplish more. Knowing that your sacrifice will not be enough but still doing it is the greatest act of faith there can be.
You haven’t uploaded in a While. Nice to have you back :) awesome vid.
Man this is ridiculously good, please make more of this Imperial Saint inspired music.
Thanks. And I hope I will have an inspiration to make more of this.
This is my first time hearing this and i dropped to my knees and offered a prayer to The Angel. For the emperor and for sanguinius.
Every creature on this Earth fights to survive and produces more of its kind than necessary in order to ensure its future. An incredibly based organization I am not allowed to name here said this.
Lament for Sanguinius, the Angelic One
Oh, how the skies wept when you fell,
Sanguinius, with your wings of gold,
Your heart so pure, your spirit held
High, even as Chaos' plots unfold
Your sacrifice, so great, so bold,
A father's love, a hero's heart,
A symbol of hope for all to behold,
Torn apart by the traitor's dark art
The light of the Imperium dims
As we mourn the loss of your grace
Your legacy, a shining hymn
To courage, honor, and steadfast faith
The blood of martyrs, is the seed
Of a better world, born from pain
May your spirit guide us, as we, too, bleed
And wage war against the daemon's reign
In death, you transcend, like a star
Shining brighter, in the firmament above
Your memory engraved in every scar
Of those who fight, for the Emperor's love
Oh, Sanguinius, how you are missed
Your gentle voice, your radiant smile
But in our hearts, you still persist
A symbol of sacrifice, that shalll never die
So, let us raise our bolters on high
And pledge to carry on your fight
For the Imperium, until we die
And join you, in the celestial light
