    Black/grey/yellow version - high fender kit - black soft bags - camping gear - black bark buster hand guards - after market exhaust - and I’m off into the sun set.

      what's the point of a high fender other than aesthetics?

    • @exothermal.sprocket
      @exothermal.sprocket 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@carlosandleon Increased wheel travel needs increased space for the wheel to move. If you're referring to the front fender, usually it's to prevent the occasional mud caked from tearing it off, or locking up the tire from moving.

    • @carlosandleon
      @carlosandleon 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@exothermal.sprocket Yeah, i meant the front, but considering you can heighten the low fender on the tenere i think a high beak fender is not necessary on the tenere 700.
      Dakar bikes have also sported low fenders so beak fenders really aren't necessary at all.

    • @exothermal.sprocket
      @exothermal.sprocket 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@carlosandleon Whatever it takes to keep dirt from damaging the radiator, caking up on the tire and ripping the fender off or stopping the wheel, or zinging into the air and blowing up all over the rider....

    So great to see a straight to the point and unbiased review! So many "reviewers" these days seem to be afraid of pointing out any compromises or anything remotely negative out of fear of not being invited to future events.

    • @HUSKY7-1
      @HUSKY7-1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Many so called reviewers these days are just free loaders with their own agenda of self promotion in this ' look at me, look at me' generation and no real reviewing skills or ability to dissect and verbalise a bike's pros and cons.
      Brake magazine is the exact opposite of this, by far and away the most professional, unbiased, articulate and accurate reviews I have come across.
      As someone else already mentioned in the comments, you can almost feel the way the bike rides from listening to the review.
      Well done Brake Magazine.

    I think the Yamaha team was very smart to offer the Tenere 700 in this foundational package to start with an eye towards adding S and R models in the future. As you've noted, the bike is going to appeal to a lot riders and encourage them to ride farther. And feel great about what they've accomplished - which is what it's all about!

    The 2020 Yamaha T700 (Tenere) is a good basic bike. *_I strongly suggest_* you avoid the temptations by the industry &
    dealers making their videos on the T700. Never, ever buy a brand new design i.e. 1.0. WAIT about two to three years for the:
    - fixes to the design bugs & issues
    - improvements/modernizations like on the Honda Africa Twin & now Adventure Sport version
    - aftermarket parts & accessories to be available
    - for other folks not wise enough to wait, to buy it and spend their money not yours
    Something to think about that I am sure the video maker agrees with.

    Just placed my deposit (Feb. '20) and am torturing myself watching vids like this until it arrives in June. Having fun shopping for and buying accessories for it: HEED crash bars, Tusk MOLLE rackless luggage over an SW Motech tail rack, SW Motech center stand, HEED crash bars, Adventure Spec skid plate, GIVI S310 auxiliary lights, Pivot Pegs. Seems like many North American manufacturers/retailers are not building/stocking many accessories for these bikes yet. Most are European sourced. They better get with the program in the US and Canada, because Yamaha is going to sell a gazillion of these bikes here.

    Great review. Loved your straight talk. No flowery language and no sugar coating. Gives a very good idea of the bike. And it seems like a terrific buy for the money and will give the far more expensive mid weights a real run. Glad to hear you can do long motorway days too as that’s a necessary evil that any adv bike needs to cater to. Top bike overall.

    The story isn’t merely the price, but that mid range adventure bikes are coming into their own. The 1200 monster bikes have had their moment. Please devote some future discussion to this new market and the driving forces behind it. In many ways, you are the demographic behind its rising popularity.

    I remember dual sport/ adv use to be the cheaper intros into the motorcycle world. Now it's a title a brand. More sophisticated and technologically advanced motorcycles for the street costs thousands less... $10k+ for this "barebones" adv bike. These bike dealers are making a killing on profits these days.

    My favorite type of ADV riding is long-distance trips to third world countries, and this is the bike we've been waiting for: capable, comfortable, forgiving to ride, simple and cheap! Complicated electronics are a liability in countries where you might have to truck your bike to the capital and wait three weeks for your part to be shipped in. Simple is so much better. Yamaha have shown they really understand the adventure traveler biker.

    Best review of the Tenere, i wish i saw that before buying one...5:54 - is spot on! It's not a adrenalin pump bike, if you after one don't fool yourself - you won't be happy with it. It's not ready to race - it's ready to plod along, and God forbid dropping it offroad - plastics are not even enduro type - they are same as on road bikes and they cracking very quickly. They are also painted (not colour molded) so they will scratch badly offroaad, and as they are matte finish you wont be able to polish out scratches :-/

    Thank you for this review, best review of the Tenere ti date, totally honest with pros and cons. When you say it was good at highway speeds, what rpms are we talking about at 100-120km/h? Nobody seems to be able to answer that question.

    • @BrakeMagazine
      @BrakeMagazine  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. I tried it at everything from 100 to 180. It seemed really comfortable at 130km/h cruising. No vibration, not reving hard.

      Ktm stripping bike to basics? 790?

    • @FernitoAM
      @FernitoAM 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @mld sorry mate, I believe i missunderstood your first comment. I thought you were saying KTM is going down the "simplicity" path! Same as Yamaha! It seems we both agree that KTM is looking more like an spaceship and that Yamaha is looking cool and simple (and cheap, and reliable). Ride safe!!

    Good review, cheers. In my view we are getting carried away by fancy electronics a bit too much, going back to basic motorcycles improves skills and fun to ride as opposed to playing with electronics.

  • @pinnacleroofing9841
    @pinnacleroofing9841 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    another big difference between the t7 and ktm 790 is for us that are not big gear heads. ktm requires a very particular oil, frequent valve checks etc... The t7 uses whatever oil you want to give it, 25k mile valve checks and generally doesnt need much pampering to run well and maintain a warranty

    Well done review Thank You i think most modern bikes with foul injection suffers from jerky throttle when you start do to the lean mixture mapping of the engine
    it is extreme on big singles like the Yamaha XT 660ZA Ténéré but it can be helped a lot by simply mounting a booster plug in series with the intake temp censor.

    • @BrakeMagazine
      @BrakeMagazine  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They were problematic but slowly people are figuring it out. For a lot of more recent bikes, electronic throttles have helped.
      The biggest problem is the emissions.

    A 600cc (sub 1000cc) class bike with a low(er) weight and a bias towards off road/ adventure riding and cheaper than all other bikes in the class, but not unique now that the AJP PR7 is available for the same price with a substantially lower weight by about 30kg(?), more fuel, lower CofG (Under seat tank) and branded suspension that should be better. It would be great to see a comparison, especially a Brake magazine comparison, with real world ’how it works’ comparisons from someone that knows how to ride these sort of bikes rather than just a comparison of the numbers as is often the case in other reviews. Anyone can do a brochure numbers comparison review but Brake magazine say what it’s really like to ride and that makes a refreshing change, 👍 one thing missing from this review is how well it crashes. The old Tenere 600 was renowned to be resilient to the occasional unintended dismount and iirc even had replaceable sliders. No sign of them here. Considering the launch was in Spain there are loads of more challenging off road routes than the gravel roads shown in the release videos. I’m guessing Yamaha set. The routes. It would be great to see how it rides these as that’s where the real benefit of lighter weight will be felt.

    • @ChrisJohnsonuk
      @ChrisJohnsonuk 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @mld category usually covers intended use not technical specification. By your measure the tenere 660 and tenere 700 are different categories and Duke 690 and Duke 790 are different categories which they clearly are not. PR7 is marketed 'for whichever path you choose', tenere 700 is marketed as 'go anywhere' so in marketing terms they are looking to fulfill a similar need. Counting cylinders is just judging a bike by the numbers on the spec sheet which is pointless.

    • @BrakeMagazine
      @BrakeMagazine  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      We'd like to compare the T7 and PR7. It's be interesting. I think the biggest issue with the comparison is the historical reputation AJP have.
      Having a decent set of components doesn't help if the bike doesn't have the quality control. That's tough for us to test because only miles show it, but AJP's reputation isn't great.
      In terms of crashability, one bike went down in out group twice at slow speed. Amit suffered some scratches and nothing else. It's tough to know because it quite naked, but other than the gear linkage things seem well tucked away.
      Yamaha did set the routes and they have to cater to a broad spectrum of abilities, not just experienced off road people. From the little playing about I did, I think the Yamaha would be pretty good in more technical going.

    • @ChrisJohnsonuk
      @ChrisJohnsonuk 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @mld Reading a spec sheet really doesn't let you know about what a bike is like to ride. The only way you will know if it's comfy for your body shape, if it's well balanced, top heavy or low cofg, if the wind directed from the screen hits you straight in the head and if you can confidently get your feet down is to ride the bike. Although most will say that power, gadgets and specs are the reasons they choose a bike the above reasons are why people CHANGE their bikes so should arguably be the reasons you choose a bike in the first place. None of these are things you'll find on a spec sheet.

    It sounds like it’s performance is in line with its pricing...middle of the road.
    There should be a good market for this at the price, and a lack of electronics makes it more repairable on the road. I like the price, but I’d be bored with this after my KTM.

    Thank you for a very helpful review.
    One comment is that another reviewer pointed out that their (a couple with 2 T7s) bikes leaked fuel from that ugly cap when tipped over.
    And one question about the ABS: you commented that the ABS was not as functional off-road under some circumstances. But I understand that the system is switchable (at least the rear??). So how does your observation align itself with the ability to turn off the ABS?
    Thanks again. This was a truly in-depth and practical review.

    • @BrakeMagazine
      @BrakeMagazine  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Our comment was that the ABS isn't great off-road. If you turn it off the brakes are fine.
      I didn't crash one to test the fuel cap sorry.

    Hi Llel, really helpful channel thanks for doing all these great riding tips & really thorough reviews.
    Would be a great addition to the reviews if you could add some video with the sound of the engine in different circumstances, including tick over & what it sounds like in real time when it rides by the camera & perhaps at slower speeds on off road trails?
    Remember, life's better when you're hearing! ;)

    Excellent review with a lot of details and - remarkably - lack of overwhelming excitement about the event in Tortosa which probably leads to extremely biased reviews because of its awesomeness in itself. The people there felt again what and how great riding a motorbike actually is. It might not have taken a Tenere700 to feel that. ;)
