@@GrindThisGame I am for sure! Really enjoying it a lot. ONI is one of my favorite games along with Rimworld and I've just been trash at ONI. This has been helping me think outside the box and approach problems in a new way as well as just giving me knowledge I didn't have before on some of the advanced features. I'm impressed at how much Klei has put into this game, and I'm glad they did.
Awesome video :D Funny commentary of the decisions of the base creator, funny mistakes you made (cutting oxygen supply to exosuits, trying to figure how to run the petro generator, building a manual generator on the wrong side of a transformer resulting in all energy lost), funny panicking. And in the meantime, you and viewers learn stuff. 10/10. Waiting for the "Duuuuude" audio ;)
The nature and scope of this disaster is due to the butterfly effect, and it's more common than you might expect. I suspect a large number of companies fall to this type of calamity. It's a direct result of a lack of long-term thinking while planning projects, not building with future expansion in mind, and layering poor hasty decisions on top of each other until the final burden causes the entire house of cards to collapse.
The entire ecology of a base is like an engineered system; and as you build and expand, you unwittingly hard-wire limitations into this system based on design choices. This base is what happens when you try to push that ecological\industrial system past its breaking point.
Another thought for dealing with stress. There is no reason to have bath time on the schedule. Just extend your break time and dups will take baths and wc during break. This allows you to gain Moral bonus from longer break with no real loss
Question. so, i just reached the surface for my first time in ONI and its about shove voles. some cycles later i notice one shove vole dug its way into almost mid of the map! do they do this?? its my first encounter with them so i was like ok whatever, its not in my base ill let it be. finished a rocked THANK GOD, did some other stuff AND TODAY when i loaded up the game i JUST NOTICED. IT... IT DUG ITS WAY TO MY HATCH STABLE, let itself get groomed by my dupes like hes a hatch, and is just chilling there like wtf icognito, like some imposter, thinking i wouldnt notice! i dont even know how long its been there! what the hell, what do i do with it now? i dont wanna kill it since i swear thats one of the craziest shit ive seen happen but idk what to do with it now xD, are they worth keeping? what are they for, it says eats and shits the same stuff lol
I guess the little guy just wanted a nice cozy home. You can trap them with metal tiles. They are worth keeping at the surface because they clear all the regolith for you.
You forgot to check the food permissions to see if they were blocked from eating anything. One thing I always do if I have a starvation crisis is make a list of who is starving the most from my reports, and giving them the only permission for pepper bread (Or whatever I have) first. For me this is always early game because I focus so much on infrastructure that I forget to make farming and I end up giving them mush fry, pickled meal, and hunting/digging for muckroot and hatch meat.
Good point. I might have done this before I started recording. The game also warns you now if food is available but restricted which is nice it this sort of situation :)
@@GrindThisGame yeah but my game was seriously bugging out today at around cycle 1,100. One oxygen shortage from switching to a new geyser and power system and suddenly my exosuit docks don't know what to do, nobody can get food despite the food being stored directly in the base, and people going idle despite having constructions already delivered, within the base limits. Kind of whacky
This may be a silly question but how do you zoom out so far (So you can see most the map)? Also this series has been super useful on figuring out how I can help my own base! Thanks
About the single bedrooms with the good beds. I'm pretty sure, you only get the 'bedroom' room bonus when there's only one good bed, a decoration item, and at least 4 tiles high ceilings. Everything else is 'barracks'.
Okok =D So hahahhahah first lets get that laughter out of the way.. I mean I feel your pain =D I really Do.. I'm so sorry :D Ok So I feel like I ow you an explanation for what is going on, First there are 2 water sources that are arriving to the base, first is up geyser second is bottom geyser... And I had/have a big issue with water there just isn't enoufghhg of water, when I had 27 dupes in that base Yes 27 not 16 .. rip ... I needed allot of hydrogen to fuel my power needs and I just coudn't get it work the hydrogen that was produced wasn't enofughh So I build the Petroleum station with little knowledge on how they over heat, only after watching your tutorial I noticed the errors of my ways... Refinery just didn't want to work :( I had 1 then added 2 and the first one just stopped working, like the second one... As I got more desperate for power I added more hydrogen generators and power stations to upgrade generators.. In my panic I totally forgot about the chlorine geyser... The doors.. the door's are my Brilliant way to make dupes walk true a common room or some other type of relaxing room to boost morale, you know so they walk true the rooms every time they travel inside the base.. I have no idea if it works... Dude thx for fixing my base =D
you ask why your weezewort are not cooling, its because the gas they are in. so its true that they lower the temp by a fix amount (5 degree) on a 1kg/s paket of gas, but if you look at CO2 it as a heat capacity of 0.846 compare to hydrogen witch as 2.4, so hydrogen is almost 3time more effective and as a bonus it really likes to transfer is heat. use weezewort in hydrogen or natural gas and not CO2 or clorine
Just started watching this series and Im learning a lot!!! Also, those poor dupes 51:45, being reminded of their future while running to the coal generator hahaha
oh no... and I was gonna try and be productive... here goes another hour down the net... xD Edit: OMG! all those poor dupes!! tasteful memorial galore! xD
You'd have to seal 90% of the base. And slowly get things back on line. starting at the top. Coal does you not good without a smart battery. You are eating it faster than you can dig it out. It would take hours on end.
I always save when I do something major. When I head into the darkness. Never know when you end with your Dupe doing something silly and dies. They can teleport into places. Had that once. Ported into a place I couldn't dig and the dupe died. Building a major plant like power. Maybe changing over to a different food. That way you can at least get back to where it was working before you did something stupid. Or a game bug like the Dupe teleporting.
Morale requirement is the top most demanding job a dupe has learnt, not the current job. So it doesn't matter if you switch jobs to a one with a lower requirement, morale expectation will remain the same.
I watching this vid now (I not finished yet) and thinking about if can you will fix it! Btw I have 4 showers but never 4 duplicants use in same time, whats wrong?
Why do you want them to use them at the same time? They might have other things to do/other priorities, or are not grimy and don't need to shower. The bath time schedule basically allows your dupes to use that time for bath related stuff. What they do is up to them 😊
Victor Leunardi If you want your dupes to shower for a higher morale, then you might consider changing your bathroom time into free/quality time for the duplicants. I haven't done it yet, but I heard from various sources, that dupes don't really need specific bathroom time. They'll shower and go to the toilet in their free time too. And as an edited bonus, every hour of free time gives your dupe +1 morale! 😄
I have a even worse situation i recently noticed my floors are off a tile(one floor is 3 tile high) so i need to rebuild my entire latrine and great hall also 2 other floors
After recording I realized I should NOT have disconnected the top left oxygen that was feeding the suits! Ooops.
The top bedroom on the right isn't getting its bonus as the tile is missing above the door. Minor change but that room bonus is an easy fix.
I think the horizontal doors were supposed to create rooms
Mistakes were made. Luckily they were only dupes that suffered ;)
Great overall work, but my anxiety watching the batteries eating all the produced power and turning into heat...
Glad you took on the challenge even though you thought it might be too far gone! Nicely done!
Binging this series?

Yeah I really had a hard time figuring out what the heck most things did. Much easier when it is your own stuff.
Rough. Once a base is past a few hundred cycles they are usually indestructible. Had to start ignoring a lot of warning signs to end up like that.
yeah...like...wow. Getting a base to be this big and massive yet still be this much of a disaster is an achievement in and of itself!
The nature and scope of this disaster is due to the butterfly effect, and it's more common than you might expect. I suspect a large number of companies fall to this type of calamity.
