As much as I enjoyed the series, I agree with you, the early and mid game is the fun part. You spent this entire episode piddling around doing nearly nothing. Except for the planet with the Experiment on it, they're all pretty much self sustainable.
@@GrindThisGame No need to apologize, I wasn't accusing you. You'd done pretty much everything there was to do other than the ending-the-game stuff like the temporal rift.
I find the rockets to be a grind for no real benefit. When you get to rockets your starting planet is just about done and the challenges on new planets aren’t that interesting. If you could more easily send does and materials around it would be better.
@@probablynotmyname8521 There's a couple of things you can't otherwise get without rockets, but you're right. As GtG showed, you don't /really/ need stuff like isoresin and thermium.
I do have to agree, when you've reached the point where the primary threat to your colony is system lag, you've reached the end of your playthrough. It was fun getting here, though.
If you build your rovers out of steel, you can deconstruct the rover landers for 400 kg each of steel. Each dupe lander is worth 400 kg of whatever metal you use to make it.
There is a mod that trims the history in the save files. There can be some trade offs with some achievements, but I found the moderate save settings in it make a significant difference. Storing the save game file on ultra-low latency Intel Optane drive also helps a bunch :)
@@GrindThisGame optane is noticeably faster - it's almost RAM levels of latency. Too bad it never took off. Used datacenter optane cards were cheap if you can still find them.
My lag todo list. Put all drop debri/items in a restricted area, to specific dupes. Usually I just have the suppliers/cleaners have access. Vacuum or build/fill entire areas, gas, heat exchange adds up. Minimize critter movement, as you stated, the flying ones are the worst. Create small infinite gas/liquid storage areas instead of having massive areas, less calculations. (air tiles for liquids and regular blocks for gases.) Under game options, display, set "low resolution textures", makes a big difference and you can't really notice the difference. There is a new Windows 11 update coming (24H2), will give AMD and maybe Intel CPUs a 5-30% increase for certain games. You can already get it if you opt in or manually download it. If you have a AMD or even an Intel, undervolt/curve your CPU, that is another 10%-20%+ performance improvement. Take a look at your power profile under Windows, make it ultimate or at least performance mode. Also make sure your AV isn't hitting the game with constant/active scans. There are a few tools as well such as CCleaner, O&O Shutup10++, Process Lasso, if you want to tweak, clean and disable a lot of junk.
Sorting the gasses on the map reduces lag more than anything else you can do.. The particle physics are not easy on the ol processor. Just thinking out loud, hope it helps anyway.
Not sure if you're able to read this comment, as YT has decided to block every comment or reply that I make. If you can see this comment, I just wanted to say Thank You for this series. It has been a wonderful journey, and has helped me through the grieving process. Some heroes don't wear capes, but they may play a very laggy ONI .
@@GrindThisGame Yay! They finally fixed. Am looking forward to seeing what you decide to play next, and have been catching up with your other playlists in the interim.

Yeah sorry I had no clear goal for this episode.

Loved having the series back, thanks so much for doing it.

Ok sweet
I have really enjoyed this series! I understand the need to close it though...can't wait to see what else you do!
Thanks :) new game tomorrow.
I've really enjoyed this series. I am glad I found your channel. I look forward to future content on other games!

I'm using that mod and a NVMe.

Always enjoy watching a new series. Your ONI fix is sated for another while. Can always comback next major release.
Exactly :)
Awesome series!
Glad you enjoyed it.
Really enjoyed the series, ty - looking forward to the next game whatever it is :)
Congrats on the series!
Thanks! :)
Awesome like always, cool-d series!

Thanks for all the tips. One I forgot to mention and do in the episode is to restrict tasks to certain dupes. Apparently it helps as well.
Thanks for the series 😊
My pleasure 😊
Do the Hot Tub, it is over powered and keeps from wet feet last 4 days super happy

Fun series 👍
had a heart attack after seeing end in the title
you can assume the planet is much bigger or gravity wouldnt keep you on the floor...
Robo miners in space eventually over heat
Real vacuum, as exists in ONI, doesn't exist in reality. The last molecules after pumping do not get deleted.
You don't say :P
Hoping to see you play the new timberborn update version someday the one with the water physics because that is very interesting to watch
I took a look. Looks like a nice addition. I might pick it up again some day.
Yay
I will miss everyday ONI videos
Me too :)

How can you have played this game so much and not know how to make new bases on planets with dupes dropped in suits
I guess I'm just stupid.
@@GrindThisGame Come on of course you aren't stupid, but you have never colonized all the planets or seen someone do it? Thanks for the content!
@robbtc6419 I have in the past. Well I didn't build a base on the lava one.
