With the arrival of Legion of Super-Heroes #10, Brian Michael Bendis has given us a lot of new information about the nature of the Gold Lantern...not just his real name and a partial backstory, but also a few massive clues that point to the Lantern Order of the Gold being unlike any other Corps in Lantern history.

And the "justice is blind" detail is a great point too. Also you showed the image of him fighting or training and he was wearing a blindfold too.

Thanks! I'm really wondering if the character is physically blind, or if it's a blind faith kind of thing in addition to justice being blind.
It could be that the elders want their lanterns to train blindfolded to make sure their sense of justice remains impartial. When you can see what is happening to someone, or what they are doing, and those in their lives even for someone doing terrible things. It could alter your sense of justice for good or bad. When anger overrides justice it turns someone into a vigilante, but if you become too sympathetic to someone you can also let them off too easy.
I also wonder if the reason why their is only one per dimension is to consolidate the power of justice into a single Lantern in that dimension. This could be that justice or the emotion associated with it is very powerful, but in a very small amount an not allowing the Elders to create too many of them. I mean with how powerful the enemies working towards doom might be, they might need these lanterns to be as powerful as possible, while dealing directly with events that could lead to doom. While the other lantern corp might be working on dealing with smaller issues linked to it, but are so spread out you need more lanterns.

Gold could very well be faith, seeing that faith is typically blind. The faith could be in the Elders’ words or teachings, and that could be why Kala, as a teacher (possibly preacher,) became the Gold Lantern

I have mixed feelings about the golden Guardians of future Oa. On the one hand, (and this is based on little more than what I saw in the video) they look like they could be constructs made by a Yellow Lantern and set to trick others into carrying out justice through fear like the Sinestro Corp did. On the other hand, I get the feeling that these Guardians might be dead. They look more like ethereal spirits that are tethered to Oa through those golden chest-plates they wear.
Yeah, I wonder if they look like that just because they're so powerful, or if it's something else.

I like that the gold lantern represents a strong sense of justice. Reminds me of sacred energy from yu yu Hakusho and how you need a strong sense of justice in order to master it and only one character out of that entire universe used it. It's also gold color energy too...so wonder if there's a deeper connection behind using gold as a color that represents justice?
I mean would it not also closely represent pride? Since one of the abilities seen by him was transmutation. Or him changing what was thrown at him to fit what he wanted it to be. Which could also correlate to having a strong sense of justice because 'justice' could become stubborn arrogance if it works only for one person and not a conscious justice working equally for all.
Yu Yu Hakusho was crazy in its depiction of sacred energy. The only one who can use it is a literal sociopath with split personality disorder who fragmented himself as to become pure. It was an interesting take on western interpretations of Buddhism.
There's something eerie about the Gold Lantern Order for sure.

I'm actually already thinking about doing all of those, the problem is the amount of time they'd take. Don't worry, though, they'll be a lot more Kyle content coming, and I'll touch on everything you mentioned eventually.

I wonder if there are lantern corps based on ideas and represented by metals instead of emotions and represented by colours. Like: Platinum is freedom, Gold is justice, Silver is order, Bronze and Steel could be something else.
Steel could be theft like the orange lanterns having greed because it rhymes with steal.
Bronze is envy because it's not as valuable as the other metals so it could be a cheap knock-off of the violet lanterns able to switch colors but only 1 at a time.
Copper would be death because it looks like rust.

Just out of curiosity, in case I missed it, did you cover the ORIGINAL Gold Lanterns? The one's that weren't fully completed, and their emotional spectrum was going to be Honor instead of Joy.
Way back, the space sorcerer Zunderell was going to create an army of Gold Lanterns with incredible strength and bravery compared to other lanterns, but the process to create these lanterns and open up this new spectrum was denied, and his most desperate method put him in the crosshairs of Hal Jordan who defeated him.
Its quite interesting. An oath was never created, but I imagine it would be something like this...

As for Oa being unique in all the multiverse, I believe the first time it's mentioned is in Crisis on Infinite Earths #7, when we get the history of the creation of the multiverse. It really doesn't come up a lot, so I'm not sure how much more there is to find. Hopefully Legion will change that.

What are your thoughts on Jim Lee stating that every DC property (game, movie, TV show, comic) exists in the same DC Multiverse, and what does that imply if all of these universes share the same Oa?
@@nickabenson The safest option would be for them to say something like...Oa and the Guardians are constant, but everyone else who goes there vibrates at the frequency of their own universe, so there's no crossovers and they don't have to worry about maintaining continuity between the comics and the tv/movie projects.
I actually really like the way the Arrowverse leaned into the multiverse idea as a way to canonize every DC movie and tv show without having to fit them together neatly into one shared universe. If Jim Lee wants to say that the comics exist somewhere in that multiverse too, I'm fine with that. None of it means they'd have to cross over directly.

Because Oa can't exist simultaneously in all if it is only in one universe. Also does that mean that even in the Dark Multiverse, that there is only one Oa?
@@nickabenson The way I've always understood it is that if Hal Jordan is on Earth 1, and Alan Scott is on Earth 2, and they both fly to Oa at the same time, and arrive at the same time, they can both be standing in the exact same physical spot without crossing out of their own universe. Oa is a nexus point that's in every universe at the same time. I think it would be incredibly interesting and useful if Oa was an access point...like a giant airport or something that let people travel between universes, but that's not what it is, at least right now.
The Dark Multiverse is a new enough idea that I can almost guarantee nobody has thought about how it works with the Oa thing. Though to my understanding, the Dark Multiverse is made up entirely of twisted, bad endings for worlds and stories from the regular multiverse, so I don't think the same Oa would exist there. Instead there would probably be multiple separate Oa's in each Dark universe that required one.

I maintain hope that the Gold Lantern Corps is the Yellow Lantern Corps, reformed and changed by Jessica Cruz. It'd take a better writer than me to explain that. But if fear can motivate Batman, it can motivate a Corps.

That makes me think of Dark Multiverse: Blackest Night, where Sinestro wore a white ring on one hand and a black ring on the other. They didn't really do anything with the idea, unfortunately, but if some of these books keep pushing in the direction they're going, we might just see some more experimentation like that.

WTF DC actually copied my idea of a Gold Lantern I thought of 9 years ago lmao. I even made it the embodiment of Justice, but I gotta admit, the logo and the blind justice concept they come up with is pretty smart.

I have a feeling gold lantern is powered by pride. Which can be masqueraded as justice and why it can be called blind if it isn't a conscious justice that works for the good of all equally.
Plus justice can be an offshoot of pride and help explain why his transmutation ability helps him to change something thrown at him into what he would rather see it be. Like bieng to prideful so you remain unchange and rather reconfigure anything around you to your benefit.
That's a really good thought. I also wonder if the brief conversation about the nature of the Emotional Spectrum in the recent Green Lantern #1 is going to open the door to explaining things like the Gold Lantern.
Pride can mimic many things. Happiness can also exist as pride.
The fact that they say he's the protector or whatever of "this dimension" makes me think that maybe the elders are a fusion of the guardians and 5th dimension beings... Maybe? Or that the most powerful and prominent members of the GL Corps (Hal Jordan, Jon Stewart, etc.) evolved and took over as the guardians of this new corps that also evolved from being the GL Corps into this new one.
Heard a rumor they may represent Joy, but I have yet to see anything corroborate that.

Before this Legion book started, they did a two issue miniseries called "Legion of Super-Heroes: Millennium" that followed an immortal character who lived her way from the present all the way to the Legion's future, as a way of establishing a lot of DC's different futures as happening in one timeline. They don't put any hard dates on these eras, but we're shown that it goes Batman Beyond, then Kamandi, then Booster Gold's future, then O.M.A.C's future, then finally arriving at the Legion. The fascinating thing about this timeline is that is establishes Human civilization falling at least twice, with the Earth becoming an apocalyptic wasteland both times, before eventually being rebuilt. So the Legion is WAY after Batman Beyond.
Still I only count life death and the original 7
I think that good lanterns being 1 per universe might be more to force them to prioritize more.

It looks like Legion Of Super Heroes may be cancelled. There's no mention of anything past the Future State issues. I'd be really disappointed if Bendis doesn't clarify what emotion or concept empowers the Gold Lanterns. Especially with that massive cliffhanger at the end of issue 12. Well, we shall remain vigilant. Thank you for the excellent content!
No problem, I appreciate the kind words. DC's been announcing new books in waves over the last few months, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Legion come back later in the year. Maybe its absence is related to the change in Bendis's work load, or maybe there's an in-universe reason to put the book on hold...either way, I'd be surprised if it was actually over.

Honestly I prefer a more meta Idea where there are secrets regarding the Gold Lanturns but they truly are just good people who wish to bring "Justice" Or "Happiness" to the multiverse. Oftenly we get paranoid from good or righteous actions and associate them with a "Hidden Evil" not only would it play on us the audience for expecting evil from benovlence which plays into the idea of "Fear" (The closest color to gold) that the main lantern core fights to begin with.
If it turns out that they were simply beings who wish for the happiness of everyone it would be a better plot twist then the more cliche "they were secretly evil or inhumane". If that idea is to happy for some cynics who don't belive in superheroes (Straightforword becons of good) then there could just be a deep conspiracy regarding the Gold Lantern Corps, the Corps gets erased or aniliated from said fear/conspiricy only for it to be revealed that they were truly benevolent. Its a great "You let fear and paranoia blind you" story as everyone would have to deal with killing a innocent and ultimately benevelont and beneficial group for no reason and we could see the outcome and reformation of the Gold Lanturns.
Okay the new generation of LANTERNS CORE is the (GOLD LANTERNS).
But I wonder if there might be a another new type of Lanterns Core; For instance I wonder if there might be a (SILVER LANTERNS CORE) & if there is than I wonder if the (Silver Lanterns) might stand for everything that the former (White Lanterns Core) that once existed stood for?

This is all bullshit, there is only one ring corp and its color is green. I have been a fan of GL since i can remember and now i gave up with this whole bull of different character, so it is finish for me. There will be only Alan, Hal, Guy and John as lanterns from earth.
