    Yes, you have missed out. But lucky for you, they have a fantastic back catalogue to explore. And is this what Jinjer usually sounds like? Yes. And no. Their sound always sounds like them somehow, but they experiment with genres quite a bit.

      It's funny how you, Jen, some random person on the internet is the one constant in my life. I remember when I first heard Jinjer in 2019 I saw you on every single reaction video just like me and you're still here. I've continued to see you on videos here and there the whole time and here you are again. I hope you get to catch them live soon :)

      Better late than never, right? Haha. It's like discovering a really good TV show when it has a few seasons already out and you can go and binge it because it's so great. It's refreshing and exciting when a band steps outside of the box and does something new. It's one of the reasons I like the band Thrice (not similar to Jinjer), they tend to do something different each record release.

I have to fill time at work somehow, so I casually check out TH-cam reactions for my favorite artists. That is incredible. There are actually not many bands I can think of who can lay claim to being a good studio and live band. I think that's why I am such a huge Gojira fan as well, they're one band that comes to mind when I think of talented in the studio and live. Funnily enough, I hear glimpses of Gojira in this track as well.

      @@Beggars.If anything the vocals are even better live, Tatiana can hit some amazingly high notes that don't even sound real when you see them live, like in the recorded music she does it here and there, live she hits those notes constantly.

    I'm 66 years old. I've been listening to music since I could walk. Jinjer are my favourite band by quite a margin. All their tracks sound like Jinjer, but they're all different. My favourites are "Who is going to be the one (live)" "Perennial" (live at Wacken or the MV - both good) "Ape" "Pit of Consciousness". I could go on, but we'd be here all day!

    • @Beggars.

      That's incredible, David. I've often wondered when I am a little bit older if I will still like metal and it's reassuring to me that you still enjoy it, so I am no longer worried. Jinjer definitely seems like an incredible band and their fans equally so.

      @@Beggars. I love music more than ever now, although I have become more fussy as I have aged! It's quality over quantity these days, although, having said that, I probably listen to a wider range of genres now than I used to. I suppose I no longer worry about what is "cool" nowadays and just listen to what I like! 🙂

    Welcome to the wonderful world of Jinjer my friend, they are a phenomenal band. Funny how you mentioned the band recording at the same time. Most people are introduced to Jinjer with the song/video Pisces (Live Session) which is a session recording. It was meant to showcase Vlad (who was their new drummer at the time) because they liked his drum style/changes to that song compared to the original recording done by their previous drummer Dmitry Kim, (who is also a phenomenal drummer) It ended up going viral because of Tati's insane vocals, and the rest is Jinjer history. You have so much to choose from when it comes to Jinjer, each song is unique and different, but all of them are fantastic. Enjoy the Jinjer journey my friend, and as always, stay Metal. 😊🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🎶🎶🎶🎶

      Thank you, Steve. The live recording you speak of is the video I keep seeing recommended on TH-cam and have never got around to seeing. It's the one where Tatiana is in the thumbnail with what looks like a short black haircut, right? I've been told I have to check that out, so I think that will definitely the next one on my list. The drummer based off this one track is insanely talented, it's not often you hear someone playing grooves like this in heavy music and parts that wouldn't sound out of place in a downtown smoky jazz club somewhere as well.

    Pisces is their ballad. It's usually the one that most folks are introduced to, but it's not typical of their usual sound. Their usual sound is like this, very groovy and progressive.
    There are tons of videos of them live. They sound the same live as in studio. Max Morton is their producer. He also produces Ignea.

    • @Beggars.
      @Beggars.  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have definitely seen the video for Pisces floating around. That's the popular live studio vid, right? I think that's the one I speak of when I say I have seen them recommended to me on TH-cam before. I am going to dig deep into Jinjer, I have a huge appreciation of talent.

  • @JonNo86

    Welcome to the rabbit hole and be prepared to be embraced by the Jinjer Army! There are only 2 bands that I've actually been excited about in the last few years Gojira, and Jinjer! They're just insanely talented musicians. There are no weak links here! To answer some of your questions... It's not live tracked, they're just incredibly talented at sound engineering and they are masters at following their click tracks. You almost can't tell the difference between recorded Jinjer and live Jinjer. The drummer Vlad is the one responsible for most of the composition. He wrote 9 out of the 11 tracks on this upcoming album. Fun fact: Every single one of these members is a replacement member of this band! The band formed in 2009, Tatiana and Roman (guitar) joined in 2010 and I think the bass player Eugene joined in 2011. Vlad is their 5th drummer who came along in 2016. They don't even know what "Jinjer" means! Their biggest influences musically are Mudvayne and Opeth. Tatiana's influences vocally come from Gwen Stefani, Amy Winehouse, Bob Marley, and Kurt Cobain. I hope we get to see you react to some more Jinjer, enjoy the ride!

    • @Beggars.
      @Beggars.  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you and honestly, I feel so welcomed by the Jinjer fandom. Just based off of the comments I've received on this video, I can already tell their fans are passionate and a warm bunch of people. Not a lot of bands can lay claim to a devoted and non-toxic fanbase like I've witnessed here. It's a true testament in my opinion as to how good their music is. The sound engineering on this is incredible, I can't think of another band around of this calibre who sounds like this. The drums definitely have a natural feel and sound to them, they're not overly compressed or loud, you can hear the ghost notes on the snare and cymbals splashing. It's refreshing to hear a heavy band who sounds like they don't rely on triggers or samples for their drums. It's funny you mention Gwen Stefani being an influence for Tatiana, I actually felt like in some parts of this track I was reminded of Gwen.

    To some extent they did pave the way for a lot of other women in metal, but they certainly weren't the first and they don't really support the movement. They aren't against women in metal by any means, but they are of the mind that music is music and it shouldn't matter what gender the lead singer is, there shouldn't be all this fanfare and attention around a band just because the vocalist is female. The last thing they want is for people to be drawn to them because of that and not because they like the music itself and I totally agree.
    This is indeed the studio version, I believe it was produced by Max Morton. One of the things that makes this band great is that there is no weak link, they are all extraordinary musicians and masters of their class. They also understand how to work as a team and compliment each other. They don't compete for the spotlight, they play exactly what the song needs at exactly the right time. Live performances are where they really shine, their playing is incredibly tight and polished, but they also know how to put on a performance -especially Tatiana. Whenever possible they do live shows with the same equipment they used in the studio which makes their live and studio performances sound very similar. This song was just released, but they already have a live recording of it, it's the last song in this show: th-cam.com/video/ByU5KM_ADp4/w-d-xo.html
    This song is very different to what has come before it, but it's also the same in a way. Their sound is very diverse, but it all has that signature Jinjer sound. Definitely do some more reactions to them, it doesn't even matter which song you pick, they're all good

    • @Beggars.
      @Beggars.  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really respect that, and you're right. Whatever impact they have had on the heavy music scene and encouraging other women to go into heavier music is just a natural side-effect of Jinjer being Jinjer. I have seen a bit of the fanfare around this band being because Tatiana is a woman and can sing/scream really well, but a lot of the people who have responded in these comments always mention how talented the band is, less so than they have who the people are in the band. It's really nice to see.
      The production on this track astounds me. As soon as I heard the way they mixed the vocals and the work on the drums, I thought it was live, but I realised it's the unprocessed drums that give it that real feel, which is awesome. I could immediately see how talented this band was the first few seconds into this track. I was honestly (and still am) blown away. I'm diving into their live stuff now too.

    Roman's guitar & Eugene's bass both go thru a Helix™ for dependability, given their years of constant touring before the lockdown bullsh1t hit.
    This and the previous "Macro" album & "Micro" EP were recorded, engineered, mixed & mastered in Kaska Records Studios in Kiev, by producer Max Morton. And I agree with you that this recording bodes well for the upcoming album release. #CrispAF :)
    Vlad's drumming is SO tasty. Possibly his depth of musicality comes from the fact he's a classically trained pianist to trade (& I've seen clips of him being very convincing on guitar & upright bass too) #AnnoyinglyTalented LOL
    This is the first (& so far only) band with extreme vocals I've gotten into. It's the composition that had me hooked, initially *despite* the harsh vocals. Integrity is paramount in music for me tho, & I 100% *believe* Tatiana when she's up there doing her thing. So much so that Jinjer are now my favourite current band. I'll not bother giving specific recommendations- your comments will quickly fill up with those! :)

    • @Beggars.
      @Beggars.  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's awesome. Not a lot of artists are using the Line 6 Helix opting for Kemper, Axe FX and now Neural DSP. I actually use the Helix myself after hearing what Dustin Kensrue of Thrice does with it. I wonder if they'll ever release Helix patches for some of their sounds? The guitar and bass on this track sounded so good.
      The production is on point. If you close your eyes and listen to this song, it almost sounds like you're in the room with them as they perform.

    I love it that you noticed two of the things that made me a big fan of this band, after staying away from Metal for more than 10 years: how organic they sound. No amp sims (or at least one created by Roman instead of the ones everyone and their mother is using in today's Metal) and most importantly, no sample replacement on the drums. The only exception was on their 4th drummer, Dmitry Kim, era. All the other drummers recorded the natural sound of their drum kits.
    Like Jeffrey Fisher said, they pride themselves of sounding almost live in the records, that way when they perform live the audience will have almost the same experience as when they listen to the records. Like you said in another comment, a bit like Gojira. So many bands tend to over-produce their records and when they play the songs live, the expectations fall very short.
    Picking up on your YT name, you should listen to their song Beggars' Dance. After listening to Vortex, it'll give the expression "and now for something completely different" a whole new meaning. ; )

    It's taken them the better part of the last decade as a band to arrive at this wonderful, Prog direction. Their earlier material is much more conventional metalcore. I can guarantee you it was produced by Max Morton, at his studio in Kiev.

      I looked up and saw they have been around since 2009, so the metalcore sound in their earlier material makes sense. I was listening to more conventional metalcore at the time like Oh, Sleeper, Caliban and As I Lay Dying. I wish I discovered Jinjer sooner. To hear it actually live, they just participated in an online concert "Hellfest at Home" and this was the last song in the hour-long set. To avoid spoiling a lot of their best work, the timestamp is th-cam.com/video/ByU5KM_ADp4/w-d-xo.htmlm39s (p.s. I've seen some people think their live performances are lip-synced because they are so spot on, but if you listen line by line there are slight differences in pronounciation. The similarity seems more pronounced here because Tati hasn't performed this song 100+ times yet so boredom hasn't become an issue. :p )

    It's never too late.
    This is a bit different from some of their other albums, but sound wise they are a unique band and rarely does one song sound like the next. They have a few IG videos showing their recording process for their next album that might answer your questions. They are a very tight band that are stunning live. Checking out some live performances would be fun. "Retrospection", "Pit of Consciousness", and "Perennial" are some top notch live performances.

      Absolutely never too late. It's like discovering a great TV show that is three seasons in, you get to binge the greatness. Not a lot of bands can claim to have a unique and varied sound, I've heard similar things from other commenters here, so it just makes me even more excited. And I definitely want to check out those recording videos too, I love the glimpses into writing and recording of great music. A couple of people have mentioned they don't live track, but their great sound comes from working with the same producer for all of their stuff who clearly understands how to make them sound good without overproducing them.

    Incredibly sounds like a studio recording.

  • @Dark__Thoughts
    @Dark__Thoughts 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Kinda of a paradox, but Jinjer never sounds the same, but at the same time you will always be able to identify a JInjer song by its sound. I can only say expect the unexpected, as Jinjer has a lot of variety not just between, but also within their songs. They also have some very high quality live videos, which are of course touched up, but in a similar professional / high quality way that makes it very subtle / unintrusive, so it does not take away the overall live experience, or rather even enhances it further. Some of the lower quality live videos can still be worth it though, as Tatiana has an insane amount of stage presence and can deliver a really enjoyable show and performance.
    I'll drop my usual Jinjer recommendations here, minus this one ofc, but I would also highly recommend to check out the cherry popper Pisces. The shock value is gone at this point, but I think it is still important to understand why this went viral. The live session is actually a re-recording of a slightly older song, which was done just to show off their (at the time) new drummer, who made it sound quite a bit differently with his unique style. The video description there has some more information about the mix too.
    As far as this song and production goes, I would say the band matured immensely, and it shows. There's quite a bit of history behind this band with lots of hardships, and I think it formed them and made them who they are right now with this new album.
    Official video suggestions:
    Teacher, Teacher
    I Speak Astronomy
    Cloud Factory
    Retrospection
    No Hoard Of Value (official lyric video)
    Home Back
    Sit Stay Roll Over
    Live suggestions:
    Perennial live at Wacken
    Who Is Gonna Be The One live
    On The Top live in Kiev
    Pit Of Consciousness live in Kiev
    Judgement & Punishment (one take vocal performance)

    They don't live track. They record each part independently. One thing about Jinjer is they are very strong when playing live. Each of them can pull off live whatever they do in studio. Of course, the vocal layering isn't there when live but they do use some backing tracks for vocal harmonies in places or for a guitar track b/c they only have once guitarist. Any backing tracks are minimal though and very tastefully done. They don't rely on it. Its there to enhance the live performance.
    Max Morton produced it. The drummer wrote most of the music on new album. He's the best thing to happen to Jinjer and I don't think they'd be where they are without him.

    • @Beggars.
      @Beggars.  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's actually incredible they didn't live track this. It sounds like you're in the room with them on this one. The drums feel really raw and tight, the guitars have a really nice tone to them. Max did an exceptional job, I appreciate how the bass isn't buried either and you can actually hear it quite clearly.
