@@lowruna It’s funny that after watching the first video on the channel, I thought that Ari and Denise are great actors themselves, they are so well versed in the material)
Imagine being Don, warning against opening the door only to be ignored, then when the infected break in he single handedly fought them off with a crowbar for as long as he could so everyone else can escape, once he lost the weapon he doesn't just bail, he goes after his wife to try and get her out, they can escape and she decides to go after the random kid, then when he's left with no other options he leaves them, because obviously he can't single handedly fight off four infected with his bare hands, even after this he still tries to get Jacob back in the boat when he fell out, he could've just driven off, but no, he risks it again, the only mistake he made was lying about seeing her being bitten, he made sure at least one parent survived for his kids
Not a single lie here. I don't understand how people don't get this. He literally tried everything within his power to help, they were completely overtaken. Not much you can do at that point. It would be suicidal and their kids would be orphans
This, again and again with reactors. I think its because we've been sold the Hero Expectation trope, that the Protagonist will ALWAYS find a way to save the defenseless, and if he cant then he's a failure or coward. But this story doesnt rely on that, sometimes we cant be the Hero, no matter what, and dying to be the morally upright hero is utterly pointless and the only sensible thing is to abandon those who are already lost and just save yourself.
@@SolidSnake240 You know, while all of this is rationally correct - that's not how most humans work. Many would die tryin' - even in such a situation. Why? Because humans are able to value the life/protection of their loved ones higher than their own life, no matter the odds. That's just part of the human nature and can be seen in countless examples throughout all of history. There is, on a philosophical level, not a right answer of how to solve this situation. One solution is rational - him surviving, so at least someone doesn't die and he has kids to care about too, but on the other side - you never know how something will play out and even if there is nearly no possibility of success, instead of physically dying, he had to sacrifice (kill) his humanity to leave her behind. This dilemma makes this opening scene, in my opinion, one of the best intros in movie history. Everybody can understand at least one of these two sides, the survival or the sacrifice, depending on what kind of person you are. Only for clarification, that's not meant judgemental.
Re. The Tunnel. In reality the channel tunnel entrance is more than fifty miles away from London and most uninfected people couldn't be guaranteed to find their way there from Central London on foot without a really good map. Besides, you can be sure that the French would have collapsed and sealed-up their end of the tunnel long ago... The real explanation for the infected getting to France is that Don's son was an asymptomatic carrier like his mother - and could have transferred the infection with something as simple as a sneeze.
Yup! Was going to say the same thing, the kid is a carrier. He spread it somehow, bloody nose, skinned knee, (someone rendering first aid to a hurt child), a sneeze... any one of a hundred different ways.
@@akula682 For some reason lots of people leap to the tunnel as the explanation, despite the film having a major plot thread about asymptomatic carriers - I assume it must be suggested by images of the infected going underground...
Yeah, if the Channel Tunnel was left open as an avenue for infection, France would've been infected on the first round, you know, when THE WHOLE POPULATION OF ENGLAND was getting infected :P One relatively small resurgence wasn't going to break through what the first nation-ending wave didn't break through. Plus even if somehow the Chunnel was miraculously ignored the first time around, they still would've certainly sealed it completely by now, knowing the danger on the other side.
indeed, maybe rather as they fled we see a glimpse of what appears to be the crashed/shot down helicopter and maybe someone tried to peform CPR/mouth to mouth on the boy trying to save him but instead dooming everyone.
I thought it was amusing how much they condemned him for leaving the wife, but if he'd stayed, he would have been killed. Also, even if the wife and kid had managed to leave through the window with him, they never would have been able to outrun the horde of infected that chased him to the boat. So while saving himself was morally repugnant, it was the only chance that guy had at survival. And that's what makes the intro so fascinating. What would you do in a horrific situation like that? Would you try and save people in a catastrophic scenario like that, when ultimately it's an impossible task and would mean that nobody survives?
I don't think the man could've done any more to try and save everyone, he was the only one fighting off the infected with nothing but a crowbar, after he loses the weapon he doesn't just run away he goes after his wife, she then makes yet another dreadful decision and when he's left with no other option he gets out
Exactly. I think there was no "correct" choice. He chose with what he thought was the lesser of the evils in the moment. You can see how much it hurt him to do it but like you said it was die with them or possibly live. It is an impossible choice in an impossible situation with both choices having devastating consequences.
Yeah idk what they were expecting except him to die with them lol. Also she was the one that wanted to try to save the kid who brought the infected into the house even though he said no to that.
I know a lot of parents have a plan where if they're in a situation similar to the opening to 28WL and one of them is trapped but the other able to escape, the one escapes to ensure their kids have at least one parent to take care of them. It makes sense, and probably should have been a conversation they had at one point between themselves and their kids even before all the SHTF scenarios happen.
Yeah he's neither a coward nor a shitty person for running, he had exactly 0 chance saving them, even he was just barely able to escape. And dying with your family is NOT honourable or romantic, especially not when you still have 2 kids who are alive. Guy made the right choice. And then he decided to make out with a zombie because the plot needed to happen.
I love how y'all are rooting for the kids to get away but the ending of the movie showed that the military was right the whole time. This movie is the embodiment of the old saying "the road to hell is paved with good intentions".
In the 28 Days/Weeks lore, the Infected can sense survivors via their scent and pheromones'. The Rage Virus enhances their sense of smell, while also hampering their vision due to their visual capillaries hemorrhaging. Good job Denise, you guessed it right! In the 28 Days comic, a survivor early on in the outbreak explains how he came to the realization that the Infected can tell the difference between non-infected and infected. It's via a regular person's smell consisting of perfumes and many other factors. Plus, it's also the fact that due to the Infected having a strain of Ebola, they definitely don't smell the greatest as a result, not to mention them not exactly caring about going to the bathroom properly, so they stink haha. They are also semi-nocturnal (they prefer the dark over the day), I'm guessing because of their damaged vision being sensitive to light. Really glad you guys enjoyed this film! It's definitely underrated compared to the first and I can't wait to see you guys watch 28 Years when it comes out!
HAAAA so it was pheromones!! Thank you so much for confirming that ahah, it was so mind boggling how they kept finding them, especially with Don following his kids!! Thank you also for taking the time to explain the lore more to us, we appreciate that a bunch!! We had a blast with this movie and we’re also glad you enjoyed the movie!
@@OfficialMediaKnights Of course! I'm definitely biased while saying this but the 28 series is my favorite zombie/infected movie of all time. Mainly because it's set in my home country and I recognize quite a lot of the scenery all too well xD Not to mention how realistic the scenario is.
I was going to guess the line about only traveling during the day (early in the first film) being more of a practical solution since it's possible that use of flashlights would draw unwanted attention, or if you don't use a flashlight you risk lower visibility trying to scavenge, and it's much more likely that in the dark and tired you could get caught off guard. Panic helps no one, ever, but one can imagine that panicking in the daylight and finding an exit, and panicking in the dark and trying to find an exit are two very different experiences. I never guessed they were nocturnal, just that scavenging in daylight was probably more practical, and safer due to higher visibility and clearer sightlines. Thanks for the lore dump, that is awesome.
ligth and sound sources are easier to detect at nigth and same for smell because of the fresh temperature of the nigth. Sound and smell behave different at lower temperature so they are more easier to sense at ground level
@ Now now I don't think they're on the level of being fully nocturnal. They definitely are capable of being in the sunlight without issues, it's just that more tend to roam around in the night than the day. The intro to the film was probably set in the afternoon so there was plenty of sunlight. If they notice you in the day, it'll make no difference. They'll chase you and rip you apart regardless.
I think that people give Dom too much shit for running. The kid panicked and hid rather than going for the window. Dom didn't just run immediately, he fought them off with the crowbar for as long as he could. However, fighting the infected weaponless is a surefire way to get yourself infected, given a single open wound with their blood, bite or saliva are so infectious. Since even a drop of blood in the eye was enough for Frank, I don't judge him at all for this moment. If he had stayed, he would have died, no matter what. And the wife wouldn't leave the boy, so they most likely wouldn't have made it to the boat.Dom's actions might be morally gross to people, but no more morally wrong than what Jim did to defend Selena and Hanna in "28 Days". Not sure if you noticed, but the skinny guy, Sam, who the soldier tries to send out to lure the snipers attack and who gets killed after hanging off the landing gear is the boyfriend of the blonde girl from the beginning. I do sometimes wonder how much the Infected remember. Infected Dom seems to hunt his own children almost exclusively(at least, from what we see)and seems to have knowledge of how to be smart in his attacks and not just run directly into the line of fire(he stealthily sneaks up on the scientist and stalks his son from a distance). Mailer(the infected soldier from "28 Days")seems to ignore Jim after he frees him and instead attacks the other soldiers. The night vision scene in the subway station is sheer nightmare fuel.
I agree with most of that. I do have a love/hate relationship with the night vision scene. It was one of the most memorable scenes from the two movies, but breaks immersion as that's not how night vision works. It doesn't work in the absence of light. It almost looks like its night vision with a flashlight. Sort of like how their shirts protected them from chemical weapons.
This film really put Jeremy Renner on the map for me. I remember watching him in SWAT and thinking he's having fun in the role, but this film shows the range he has. His sacrifice is a badass moment in the series.
A powerful and relatable scene was when Don lied to his kids about trying to go back. He lost his wife because there really wasn't anything he could do without endangering his own life. Now he only had his kids left, and in fear of losing them as well, he said what he said. Was it right? Nope. Is it understandable? I think so. If anything, I think I would've hated Don with a passion if he lied to his kids with no remorse whatsoever, if what he did didn't affect him in the slightest. But since his guilt is eating him in an almost constant manner, I feel legitmately bad for the guy 😢
Kids are (rightfully) always seen as the future but I love the irony in this movie how both in the opening sequence and with the ending, it was kids causing things to turn for the worse. If the characters had done the morally bad choice in abandoning the children, the people in the house in the beginning and the mainland would have - most likely - been fine. It's another layer of those situations that seem brain-dead at first because, duh, of course you would at the very least try to save the kids, but there's still the big "what if" question just underneath that surface.
This is such a fascinating analysis and very much on point! Inadvertently, those children were like the harbingers of the rage virus and that just increases the depth of the tragedy happening in both movies, to our characters and humanity!
The problem with children, especially in horror movies, is the third part (that usually is forgoten) of fight or flight... freeze... and children will almost always freeze when presented with fear. And humans are hardwired to protect children, even if they are not our own... so when ever i see a kid in a movie, i immediately know they are going to be the reason bad things happen.
Idk how hot of a take it is but the guy in the opening did nothing wrong. The woman literally committed suicide by taking an unwinnable position. Had he done "What was right" you're dying for nothing and leaving your kids orphaned.
The guy did nothing wrong because he could not have done nothing to help her, due to how dangerous the infection is and how powerless he was, to him it was clear that he would just kill himself to give her 1 or 2 more seconds to live, he would himself be the one killing them as a zombie, he did not had power to save them, as he barely had power to save himself, thats why you cannot judge him for leaving them. You dont have to go on a rant about her being wrong, thats not true, you don't expect people to take winnable positions on a zombie apocalipse, most people are not survivalists who train for those kinds os situations, and if they die the blame is on the zombie infection not on themselfes. The blame being discussed is a matter of power, if he had power to save them, but he was powerless. So the blame left is more intimate, it was expected for him to save his wife no matter what, not by me, not by you, i cannot determine your life, to make you sacrifice yourself like that, thats a private choice a virtue that you put yourself under. But his wife expected it, because God determined that expectation in the weeding, he signed that virtue in the weeding. And in this intimate sense he betrayed her trust and his votes on the weeding in that moment, thats why she is surprised when he left, in her last momments once they meet again we learn that she understood that he was powerless and she show love and forgiveness to him.
That's right, the whole problem is because of the children, they found an infected mother, the military man should have been following orders, not saving people. Bottom line: Europe is now infected. The film teaches that morality doesn't work in these situations.
Agreed. Despite saying they should have left the kid outside, they took him in. Maybe it wouldn't have changed anything, but despite this, he fought as long as he could against the Infected to keep them off, giving time for Alice to escape. She didn't try, as she was searching for the kid and the second he lost the crowbar, there was no way possible for him to save them. So it annoys me when they call him an asshole every few seconds.
I like the way those infected are so quick since they're basically enraged humans more than zombies, so they are so much more dangerous and intimidating than like in The Walking Dead, being so much faster and probably stronger than walkers. It especially shows during the opening scene when you see all of them running down the hill for Don SO fast, I don't even know if I would be able to at least try to escape them, I'd probably be too terrified to do anything.
That tracking shot of the infected charging down the hill is pure nightmare fuel! The relentless speed, raw camera work, and chilling sound design perfectly capture the chaos and Don’s panic-absolutely haunting. 😱
And it reinforces the fact that he made the correct decision. If Don had stayed, the house would have been overrun and he would have died. If he'd managed to help the wife and kid out the window, they wouldn't have been able to outrun the horde and would have died anyway. Any choice he made except running when he did, would have meant his inevitable death.
Agreed. How it unfolds at the end was controversial, but I personally loved the mood and cinematography. I mean, it's Danny Boyle : even with flaws, a movie by him can't be not impactful.
That movie is highly philosophical. What would it do to a human when approaching what we should never approach and see up close. Mindblowing. Pls react to this Movie.
to those who still shit on Don for his decision to leave Alice and the kid behind. their hideout got overrun by people infected with the Rage Virus, a disease that turns you within 20 seconds or even instantly depending on how much infected fluid you got into your body and being 100% lethal unless you have a natural immunity, which would only mean that the infected will just beat you to death instead. you're in a tight room and all of a sudden the room gets stormed by around 4 infected and you got no weapon. even if you tried to play the hero, some of the infected would ignore you, cause you're already busy with one or two, and head straight for Alice and the kid so your sacrifice is for nothing.
Lol, they're like "What an asshole!"every five seconds after he ran, despite the fact he had no weapons at all. Meanwhile, the Infected have every weapon they need(nails, teeth, vomit, absolute berserker savagery and numbers).Hell, Frank got a single drop of blood in his eye and it was a death sentence.
Plus, normal humans are restricted by their brain regarding how much physical strength they’re capable of exerting. Using your full strength can actually cause severe damage to your body so your brain turns off access to this strength unless you have an adrenaline spike (moms lifting the front end of a car off their kid would be an example). These things have zero regard for their own safety, meaning they likely have access to all that untapped strength. Basically, you aren’t fighting even one of these things off barehanded and they could quite easily overpower you and beat you to death.
I can see why people blame the dad (when they shouldn't), but the mom risked her life away for a stranger instead of fighting for self preservation to make sure they got back to their own children.
Blame him for what though? For trying and failing to fight off a horde of infected? Its one thing to criticize the dude but people act like he just immediately ran and left them
@@SolidSnake240 I woulda left earlier tbh. You wanna stay and play hide and seek with a suddenly-mute kid in the middle of an invasion? I'll meet you at the boat.
She's a mother. Biology takes over in that situation, you can't always help it. If we're going to excuse Dom for his natural instincts, we HAVE to also excuse her for hers.
@@liammech6694 And this is why men statistically ditch their partners the first time they get sick, whereas when it's the other way around women actually fight for their partners. We already knew y'all weren't loyal lol. You don't need to tell us that.
And the second mistake is that they didnt have a second line of defense in the staircase. I would have put a barricade there, and cut of some of the steps and improvise a ladder that would be easily kicked off so they can not climb to the second floor. And with a couple of spear I would have easily clear the first floor and protect everyone on the second floor
As smart as The Media Knights are, they're the only reactors that I've seen that somehow completely failed to realize that Don wasn't a regular infected. He was an evolved infected. I dont know how y'all missed that, but here are some clear examples that show that hes clearly somwhow evolved from normal infected. 1. Normal infected only focused on biting people, Rage Don was straight up pummeling and killing humans, he was literally gouging people's eyes out. 2. He was tracking his kids down throughout the whole movie, also not something any other infected do. The son wasn't hallucinating in the scene where Don was there and then disappeared. He took cover and hid. 3. When they firebombed the city, Don sat in the alleyway to avoid getting killed. He only moved once it stopped. 4. Rage Don also took that ladies gun in the tunnel at the end of the movie and beat her to death with it, and then proceeded to use the night scope on her gun to track his kids in the dark. 5. Lastly, while he did attack his children twice, each time, he hesitated before going at them. Its been speculated for almost two decades as to why he was evolved. While we srill dont have an answer, the best guess is that his wife being "immune" somehow caused the rage virus to mutate in her, and since Don got infected by her specifically, that mutated version of the rage virus was passed on to Don, causing him to become incredibly different than any other infected in the movies.
@@OfficialMediaKnights if you guys haven’t already, need to check out the trailer for it. One of the best trailers the last few years and really brings you back into this world.
So...no-one wants to lay a little blame on Jeremy Renner for letting the kids get that far out of the QZ? Bro literally watched them escape and could've raised the alarm before they even found the scooter. The real villain in this movie is empathy lol
There's several things that just really don't make sense about the military's attitude towards containment leading up to the breakout, and that's one of the biggies haha.
@@jerodast Or the fact that the damn facility manager/janitor was able to just waltz into a medical (containment) cell at night without being hindered by any guards, and then, infected or not, make it somehow out despite a heavy military presence in general and start a chain reaction... because someone put a lot of civilians into one shelter room, leaving the doors unguarded on each end. How stupid is that? But I guess without the plot holes we wouldn't have seen a second major outbreak that eventually went continental.
I’m not having high hopes it’s so weird that it’s gonna take place 28 years later consider the infected can die off from starvation.Either the rage virus mutated allowing them to stay alive longer or the virus just never died out
The opening sequence was actually directed by Danny Boyle, but the rest of the film was left to another director. And tbh, the difference is pretty noticeable. IMO, it stands as one of the greatest openings to any movie. Not that the rest of the movie is "bad" per se, but it just kind of pales when compared to the first 15 minutes.
I wanted to write exactly this. I remember when we went to see in the cinema and I didn0t know about this and yet it seemed so strange how different the intro sequence felt compared to the scenes later in the city
Man, Denise really irked me with her feelings toward the dad, but in her post commentary she explained that she totally gets it, as I was thinking, their kids are out their so they can't both die, someone has to be there for them. He is complex and human. Also I can't blame him for seeing her and making contact, if I was haunted by leaving her, not knowing and then getting her back (another chance), I would have done the same.
The opening scene of this movie is a masterpiece. You set the mood, your character motivations and flaws. The way the score is full released when he made the choice of never looking back while his wife is dragged out of the window is just chef kiss, the dutch angle when his world collapses and the final silence, he isn´t a hero, just a survivor. Goosebumps everytime i watch this scene
Another point to keep in mind, besides the fact that they are children and run away without thinking about the consequences, is that they did not encounter any infected person since they were safe in Spain. I believe that anyone who had faced an infected person would never think to take risks like they did.
I was 17 years old when I saw this film with my friend at the cinema and to this day no film has made my heart beat so intensely as the opening of the film to the point I was even considering getting up out of my chair to take a breather. Words cannot describe how excited I am this year to FINALLY get not only a new sequel but return of Danny Boyle and the crew and on top of that we get another 2 after!! Really glad you guys enjoyed the film :D Hope to see you guys do a reaction video for 28 years later trailer.
Not the tunnels, it's eluded that the son bit the sister and the pilot. I blame the military. Mom is a carrier of the disease, why wasn't she kept isolated and under 24/he watch??!! Also having folks come back w/o checking every house is insane to me.
I agree. The kids, especially the sister, are to blame for the virus spreading to Europe. Though I understand why she didn't want to expose that her brother was bitten since he was her only family left alive. I bet she regret it.
Definitely not the tunnel, it would have been collapsed at the first infection. Also, the tunnel is too far away for the infected to get to. In my opinion, the boy took longer to turn but turn he did and infected the pilot and his sister and landed in France, infecting the population.
@@markcarpenter6020 I agree. I don't think he bit anyone, but was a carrier so was still a risk of infecting others. Simply because he had the same mutation as his mother, made him a carrier but immune to the rage.
I find it funny how most will place the father as a villain in this movie, however I would say it was the entire family that was a menace to this island. To start both the father and mother was worried for their kids at the start only for the mother to throw her life away for a random child for no clear reason other than she herself was a mother and had to protect this kid because morals? i guess. All I am saying is no one questions this mother's choices to lead her to where she went. Then there is the father who folks try to villainize him for making a choice of survival, not morals 🤨 only to later on be a real villain to let those morals get the better of him and not use logic when he'd visit her for the last time. like what ya thinkin? she has been MIA for months or so, did you think she went on a pleasure stroll threw London? but really the real menaces was the kids skipping out to the forbidden zone, that caused this whole mess after such progress. or you can pin it on whoever is in command of the security forces for allowing children back into the country of a very fragile situation. Regardless tho, its a movie that gives you whole lot of what not to do. I love this movie and the reaction you guys had with it.
Yes, the entire premise for this movie rests on stupid decisions, abetted with a lot of scripted contrivance. It is a frustrating watch, and not a great movie imho. The thought that you would let children back in to a zone that is still vulnerable to infection, then allow them to freely roam out of the "secured" compound, then allow the husband to sneak in to kiss the infected missus, not have the infected missus (a perfectly stable infection vector) in the most secure containment possible yadda yadda. How about the concept that there is a killer plague that could wipe out the world, but somehow the world doesn't completely blockade the UK (air/sea) prepared to destroy any attempt to leave? Or that there is no failsafe in case the colony falls (nukes/standard explosives etc)? If you want to see a bad idea resulting in bad results that are actually believable, World War Z does this well in Israel where the noise drives the undead to overrun the supposedly insurmountable walls. Or Train to Busan, where the selfish businessman panics and runs and causes a number of the characters, including the father, to die.
@saviourself687 Yes, those scenes definitely had me a bit annoyed. This is obviously a U.S. led armed force that is responding to this disaster, and yet the leadership is so incompetent to allow any personnel into restricted areas along with not recognizing as a to the many different ways the virus to escape the island and not have plans and protocols in place for most events that can possibly or feasibly happen. But I love it for those moments too. Lessons learned without learning it the hard way.
@@mikepipes1693 If he'd waited, and not entered the room to kiss his wife, they would have told him she was a carrier. And hell wouldn't have broken loose. At least, not then
you need to react to the the pianist, personally i think one of the most powerful performances. Its a ww2 holocaust story and one of my top movies to watch. i would love to see your take on the film.
The kids caused all of it. If they didn’t break the rules the mother wouldn’t have been brought back. Most likely the mother would have starved to death since the husband stated the house was lost and he was the only survivor.
Nah. If she'd not died of starvation, which it send like she had that covered, they would have found the mom eventually. Probably would have taken another 6 months, but it was all inevitable. It would have been SOMEONE. A cop. A utility worker. Demo crew. Looter. Whatever. The real person to blame is the dad for breaking quarantine and kissing the wife. Since that's what he did, he would have done it anyway, even if she'd been found later.
I'm so glad she didn't get mad at you for debating that what Don did was necessary. Like I agree that a man can sacrifice himself for his loved ones... only if it would save them... but if he had stuck around, they'd have all died, so it would've been a pointless sacrifice.
Andy is the reason the Virus escaped from England. This epidemic only occurs in England in both parts of the film until the end of part 2. Andy's situation is similar to the plot of the game L4D2 (That game was inspired by this film), Those who are immune are considered are more dangerous than infected people because they have normal symptoms but are still infectious to others. This whole family harms the whole world, from the mother who likes to babysit and gets bitten, then to the father who kisses his infected wife and then squeezes them all, then to the two children who harm the whole world by spreading the disease.
I guess _Weeks_ came out about 4 years later than it should've (28 weeks after 28 days would've been early 2003 instead of early 2007), so maybe you can count those 4 years as debt and pay it back with a 2030-4 = late 2026 release date for _Years_ :P
I always thought the kid infected someone and this is why they got to France. Since the mother was unharmed but able to infect I asumed this happened with the boy as well. I completely forgot there is that tunnel from the UK to France. You mentioning it finally made me realize D: They were doomed from the start. They should have blown the tunnel or at least close it up that not even a tank would be able to go through... damn. This just adds to the hopelessness that was shown time and time again... this movie is even better than I thought until now. Also I just saw a short about this movie and wanted to see some reactions and then I find yours 1 day after release. you two are awesome :D
Man I gotta say, this is my absolute favourite react channel. You come for the reactions and you stay for the analysis afterwords. Ari you are spot on with your comments about the way they parallel Jim’s character with Dons here. Never thought about it like that. Love what you’re doing. Please react to the 28 years trailer!!
Saw this opening day. So intense on the big screen. Felt utterly exhausted by the end. Uncomfortably hilarious moment at the start, though, 'cause I could hear other people softly whispering, 'Leave the kid, get rid of the kid...' I was whispering the same thing, so I felt validated XD
Here we see two Zombieland rules applied for Don at the beginning of the movie. Don't Be A Hero and Cardio. Also Don did nothing wrong as pretty much all of us will do the same thing. Their best laid plans falls apart. And Don made his choice as he held as long as he can, then more infected showed up in numbers. Whats he gonna do? Fight them with bare hands with risk of infected blood spewing all over your face? Its impossible for him to do that as he's only human. Alice made a stupidest decision by saving a kid that the survivors just met the kid, the kid brought the infected horde into their house.
I like how it does show some evolution of the virus. Don was actively stalking his kids so he retains some memories unfortunately it isn't good for his kids. It also shows him avoiding the firebombing and his stalking shows the evolution of the virus of his intelligence so a good set up for 28 years later. My opinion at least.
you know... I love your reactions... I watch them all, but I find myself asking.... for two that love POV movies and how they are shot, how have you not done an End of Watch reaction and put it up here... that is one of the most real, touching, hard to watch movies of all time in my opinion... and simply one of the best POV movies ever
First off, easy for anyone to say “what a coward”. Though a lot of mistakes were made from Don to the military, Don did nothing wrong in that opening scene. He opened the door for the kid even though his instincts were telling him not to, tried his best to fight off the infected, tried to get his wife out of the house, tried to get Jacob on the boat, I mean, what else can we expect someone in that situation to do? I understand going for the kid, but at the same time, he got scared & hid instead of running like he did before he got to the house. Don leaving his wife behind because she went for this random kid, knowing she got two of her own, is on her. Yes it’s easy for us to judge, but I can imagine 99.9% of people would have done the same, unless they’re willing do die right there. 2nd, the military allowing those kids to go to the safe zone was mistake number one. Then, leaving an infected person alone, with no security, no cameras, not one ounce of surveillance was a big blunder. But the biggest blunder was letting the maintenance man have an all access pass. They knew that was the kids mother, they knew Don was the father, they couldn’t put two & two together? Dumb. Also the pilot was pretty stupid. Didn’t want to take anyone other than his buddy, then decides “f it, I’ll take you two kids” at the end. Dumb. Great movie. I love it. The only mistake Don made was kissing his wife. Everything else was between the wife, the military, & them dumb asf kids. Also, Andy was the one that brought the infection outside of the infected zone. & it was very interesting to see Don showing some level of intelligence after he was infected. Can’t wait for “28 Years Later (Thanks to Andy)”
Something wild, is during the scene with the people trapped in the underground area is very similar to the scene that the guy described in 28 Days Later. The one where he described climbing over people and not knowing which were infected are not. Definitely a wild callback
If there's anyone to blame it's the military. An immune survivor comes along and you don't keep her (and family) under 24/7 surveillance/lockdown?? At least revoke the husband's credentials man
@@toolthoughts Ludicrous. Honestly the movie just lost me at that point. "Oh okay this is an excuse for some big survival action scenes" at that point, not "this is what would happen in a rage virus apocalypse."
@@jerodast Yeah the suspension for disbelief went out the window for me there. I get it's a movie with a fictional unrealistic disease vector in the first place (no, you do not just turn into a rage zombie/rabies killer within moments, doesn't work like that) but man the protocol was damn awful and why does the janitor or tech guy have literal all access? He may have been given a security clearance for some areas but still would have to be doing stuff under supervision and likely with a system that would require military personnel to let him into that area first, rather than have magical all-access at will and somehow elude all guards leading to the quarantine area the wife was kept in. AND THEN MAGICALLY MAKE IT OUT SOMEHOW WITHOUT BEING SHOT DEAD AS INFECTED? Ok.jpeg
yeah they've got a potential infected locked up in some kind of quarantine, but dont have guards posted there? I'd have a potential infection risk at gun point 24/7.
The fast-paced and direction were unbelievably brutal 😮everything goes faster like seconds this is probably one of the best horror sequels since Aliens more bigger in scale, terrifying and action-packed
The fact that Don left his wife to die is a interesting part for discussion. I can see two points of the argument: it's cowardly and shitty on one way to leave your wife, but on the other hand all of this happend so fast and they where clearly cornered and overrun at that moment that getting away no matter how is not a stupid option or to blame. She got herself cornered and in that situation, and it was not Don his fault,so him pulling the plug and leaving her was kinda understandable. He was scared and the situation a complete dead end that could only end with death. Also I'm pretty sure when someone of us would be in this situation, and must make that choice that fast, 95% of people would do the same thing as Don did and saving their own life. It's instinct.
You're videos are great and unmissable for 2 reasons; #1. You're reactions are emotional and I relate to your takes in many levels and you balance commentary with your reactions. #2. You're breakdowns after the movies are just as important. You're analysis is intelligent, insightful, incredibly interesting and a pleasure to engage with. You're the best channel for this kind of content and I've been saying this for almost 2 years now. No contest. 🙏🏽 love you guys 🫶 now lets have From Dusk Till Dawn 😉 (I ask regularly) 😅
Truly appreciate you guys sticking around for the discussion. Thank you so much for all of the support ❤️ From Dusk Till Dawn is on our 2025 roaster, it’ll be coming fairly soon 😁
You have two kids of your own, you need to survive to see it. But you risk your life for a unknown and suspicious kid? Don do the right, hard hard choice but he was right, her instinct for survive was on point.
Don’t know if anyone’s recommended this one yet-The Girl With All The Gifts is an angle on the infected/zombie themes in a really smart and interesting and serious movie, add it to your watchlist!
I feel out of breath just watching Don run across that field as dozens of infected suddenly appear over the hill all converging on him. That jumpscare though when the girl looks through the gap in the window, damn, for a moment we just see peaceful countryside and nothing to cause alarm and then boom, a pair of blood red infected eyes staring right at you. Even when you know it's coming it still somehow gets me.
I know yall dont really react to trailers but the trailer for 28 years later is one of the best trailers i've ever seen. i've watched it so many times and i get chills every time.
I agree. A lot of people are quick to call Dom a coward, but he and his wife already have kids to worry about. They barely know this kid, whom frankly, lead the raging infected to their safe haven with his screaming for help. There was no obligation to risk their lives and leave their children as orphans. If the wife had gone with Dom, she wouldn't have become an asymptomatic carrier that later lead to Dom becoming infected and causing more chaos.
Yeah, I think most people are assuming "they are zombies, so they slow and dumb", which isn't the case at all. In shows like The Walking Dead, 3 to 4 walkers in a room is dangerous but possible to fight, since they are decaying, slow and not smart. 3 to 4 infected like those one in a room is equivalent to fighting 3 to 4 normal people, ain't no way he could beat them. They pretty much killed themselves the moment they opened to the child.
I'm always happy to watch a film with you again and again. That's how you feel like you're not Alone, thank you for that. You're really helping me through a difficult time. Kind regards from Germany Greetings Maurice
Best opening in a movie ever ! So well done and you feel so much anger during the whole movie. And in this one there's a scene that traumatized me and I felt so bad at the theater. The scene when the father meets his wife... the way he turned, the way beat her, the fingers... ugh... It's an awesome movie! Can't understand why so many people hate this one
YEEEEES i'm so glad you're watching this one. i know a lot of people don't like it, but, to me it's hard choosing between either 28 days or 28 weeks. both are so good in my opinion, and they're really well made in what they're trying to do. i can NOT wait for 28 Years, i've been waiting for so long!!!
I don't Agree that Robert's Character was the Villian, sure he is a coward, but he never had any ill will towards anyone. He made a decision, She made a Decision, its unfortunate it sent them in two different directions. I Still Don't Really Know if She is the Villan, I don't think She knew she was infected, I don't think she did, and I think her Ire is more just for him and not she was intentionally infecting him.
Bit confused about that reaction to the guy at the beginning. He did absolutely everything he could, anything more he would have just been another dead body. Zombieland rules apply! 😅
@@Twibook03 Nonsense, he fought off as many infected as he could to help the others, and it didn't work. There was no way for him to save his wife and the kid, the absolute best he could have done would have been to lure that one infected away, which wouldn't have saved them from the others.
I really liked this one more than the first one for some reason. I also thought it was cool how they managed to show an outbreak scenario but in a sequel. Where most zombie type films start with the outbreak, in the first one it had already happened. So this was a cool way to show the breakdown of civilisation because of the virus and how quick it must have been at the start.
the film could've at least have had the meeting between the husband and the wife be supervised by some soldiers. one way i imagined it: he has to argue with them to be allowed to see her (he's desperate to right his wrong and apologise to her). his request initially meets resistance, but they eventually give in, however they say he must be supervised during the visit. he gets into an emotional apology/monologue to his wife. the soldiers are standing back allowing this moment to happen (although they are still wary). the husband leans in for the kiss, and kisses his wife for a split second before the soldiers pull him back (only they know that she is infected, at this point). he gets infected super quickly, the shortness of the kiss emphasising how quickly the infection takes effect, and how dangerous it is. he gets a bite in on a soldier before they're able to shoot him. all hell breaks loose and we still get our outbreak/chaos kicked off. but without the dumb/incredulity causing sequence of the wife being UNGUARDED, UNSUPERVISED, and in an UNLOCKED room, in spite of them having enough suspicions around her infection status that they put her through that awful forced sanitation, and literally have her bound to the bed...
I saw the original, bought the dvd of this movie (twice) when it came out in stores and I had never seen this movie until watching it with you guys because someone took the dvd(s) before I ever watched it. It was great watching it with you guys for the first time, so I waited even longer than everyone else. :p Also I was right that you would hit 250k subs by the New Year, I was here at 48k when you said help us get to 50k. You were at 256k last night, now at 257k! I'm going to go out on a limb and predict this is the year that you hit a million subs and never see my comments again :D.
Glad you got to check this film out! Also thank you for your kind words and the massive amount of support. It means the world! And hopefully that won't be the case! We will continue to at least try to reply as much as possible haha ❤️
For some cool side info, The new movie that's coming out already has a sequel planned for a release in January 2026. "28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple" If I remember this correctly, one of the actors for 28 years later has confirmed that two movies have already been filmed, that being 28 years later and part 2 which is slated for a later release date. There is talk of this being a trilogy, but no 3rd film is confirmed at the moment as far as I know.
I think I've seen just 1 reaction where the reactors don't condemn Don for leaving his wife. This was am extremely difficult time. If the wife would have left no one would have batted an eyelash. I understand the whole, "he's a man. He should saves her, even if he also died." First of all, he did try to protect and save her. It was she who put them all in grave danger by making questionable (in different situations okay ) choices. Secondly, i would rather my kids stay with 1 parent then lose both of them. I see so many comments say. "I would have stayed and fought even if I died." Ok... Well, when we have a zombie (infected) apocalypse, and your unfortunately in such a situation, do record it somehow so we (if we haven't been 💀 or infected) can see your heroic actions. Third, for me, Don telling his kids his version of what happened was, partly because he was disappointed in himself for not being able to save his wife, but also, I think he did it so the kids wouldn't hate him and not want to see him or have anything to do with him. If that happened it would be as if they did lose both parents. 4th thing, the mom was partially responsible for the virus spreading again. Yes, she was strapped down and it wasn't she who kissed Don, it wasn't she who gave him an all access key (seriously?) It wasn't she who failed to place the proper security measures in the facility she was being held in, it wasn't she who attacked and escaped from the facility while killing or infecting other.... but..... it was she who, in that secured cottage at the beginning didn't listen to her husbands advice and brought that boy inside which resulted in the infected finding them and killing or infecting all but Don.
It’s time. I have a beer, I have some Pringles and a sandwich, and I shall watch the reaction that I have longed for. Can not wait. As an amateur composer, “In The House, In A Heartbeat” (the score during the house scene at the start) is one of my favourite scores ever made. Such a simple yet extremely haunting melody built up perfectly. I have released an “Epic Orchestral” cover of this theme on my TH-cam Channel 🙌🏼
First of all yayyy you have time, ready with snacks and a beer sounds perfect to us!! Also holy cow that is awesome!! We’re definitely gonna check out your cover, we’re so excited! Thanks so much for sharing with us, and also for your support, we appreciate you!!
@ it would mean the world if you would check it out! Loved the reaction. Can’t wait for the next film in the series. I’ll be waiting with snacks and beer then too! 🙌🏼
This movie needs to go back in theaters with a splash zone intergrated in, in preparation for the new movie coming out....imagine getting splashed with fake blood during the helicopter blades scene lmao
Great reaction! And I can't wait to see how they spin forth the story in the follow-up movie! But! I gotta nerd-rant about the movie plot a bit now. The only thing that really bugs me about the movie is how the "janitor" basically was able to just enter a high security containment cell or medical facility without being stopped by any guards, like go there on his own just like that without being told to wait when they gave him the message, saying he'd be able to see her soon enough. And then of course that one infected makes it out past various guards somehow and start a chain reaction. Not even the fact aside they decided to herd too many civilians into man shelter rooms rather than keep it simple and smaller, divided, it's the fact for me that an outbreak was possible despite a heavy military presence and them having awareness of the issue.
Noticed the Squid Game pic in the background, it would've been cool to see your reactions to the show. Also I hope you guys react to more Danny Boyle movies like Trainspotting
Honestly the fact this wasn't danny boyle speaks to just how invested the writers, they were so keen to yo do the story justice..this was an incredible experience
You know, i cannot blame Don for kising his wife and starting an outbreak. How incompetent those soldiers must be to not notice him sneaking in as well as how could the second soldier see Don eating his comrade and not doing anything? Don is 1 centimeter away and the gun is still by the hip pointing down. Like bruh
Just started watching, not sure if you have seen Children of Men, if not you would both love it, for so many reasons. Anyway, back to watching you watch this..
That opening sequence is probably my favourite out of any Zombie film. Always thrilling and terrifying! Love this sequel and I can't wait for the third one (FINALLY).
I'm sure Denise would save a random kid rather than escape together with her husband to be with their biological children who's waiting for them to come. You will never understand because you are not in his situation.
This was such a huge let down from 28 days later. I did not like this one bit. Hopefully 28 years brings back everything this one missed out on. Thanks guys for the great reaction love ya
I remember my wife giving me the side eye the first time we saw this movie. I had to reassure her I would never leave her during the zombie apocalypse 😂😂😂
I'm extremely enraged the trailer for 28 years later pretty much ignores 28 weeks later's ending about the virus reaching the continent and continental catastrophe it'd mean. That being said 28 weeks later is a darker movie than 28 days with it's nihilistic message, and even the lack of uplifting music like the first one had.
@@wolfpredator1000 thank you so much for your support and generosity! It means a lot to us. We haven’t seen the trailer yet but that is quite the surprise. I wonder if they want to retcon this film altogether?
Hi can you watch the movie All Quiet on the Western Front one of the best movies of World War I as it is on the German side it is preferable to watch it in German voice for a better experience

@@SolidSnake240We want to believe we’d do it differently. It’s the root of most victim blaming.
She was responsible for spreading the disease at the facility too - she’s pretty much the one at fault for everything here. 😂
Never trust the heterochromic. Harbingers of doom I tell's ye.
Those kids getting out, specifically the boy, is how and why the virus spreads to the rest of the world.
No. It was the mother. She started her BS stubbornness.
@mr.k1611 Everyone blames everyone else, and yet not one person here has blamed the virus!!! 😂
Mainly because it's set in my home country and I recognize quite a lot of the scenery all too well xD
Not to mention how realistic the scenario is.
It shouldn't be a hot take tbh
fr, only logical move to make.
Robert Carlyle is such an underrated actor and most definitely the best part of Once Upon a time

It is so damn good! It’s aggressive and It makes you feel discombobulated just like how Don feels in that moment. Amazing filmmaking.
One of the best motivational moments in film for needing to hit the gym.😅
The opening scene is utterly icon it's one of the best intros to a film ever recorded imo.
Sooo true, so well shot and amazingly directed!! It’s gonna stay with us for a while!
@@OfficialMediaKnightsDanny Boyle actually directed the opening scene
Yall have to watch Sunshine. It’s directed by Danny Boyle and it’s one of the best sci-fi movies ever made. So underrated.
So Agree
One of the best casts ever assembled, such an underrated movie.
Fuck Danny Boyle. And fuck sunshine. The guy who directed this is better.
to those who still shit on Don for his decision to leave Alice and the kid behind. their hideout got overrun by people infected with the Rage Virus, a disease that turns you within 20 seconds or even instantly depending on how much infected fluid you got into your body and being 100% lethal unless you have a natural immunity, which would only mean that the infected will just beat you to death instead. you're in a tight room and all of a sudden the room gets stormed by around 4 infected and you got no weapon. even if you tried to play the hero, some of the infected would ignore you, cause you're already busy with one or two, and head straight for Alice and the kid so your sacrifice is for nothing.
i would rather shit on the kids because they did leave the safe area and caused all this
Lol, they're like "What an asshole!"every five seconds after he ran, despite the fact he had no weapons at all.
I know man, what could he do?
@phousefilms every five seconds is a massive hyperbole. Also 12:30. Can’t say it any clearer than that.

Yeah. As usual the most humane acting people are fucking everything up for everyone else, lol
And now we wait for 28 years later. This is a solid sequel and that opening was just amazing

"28 years later" is being released this year
I’m not having high hopes it’s so weird that it’s gonna take place 28 years later consider the infected can die off from starvation.Either the rage virus mutated allowing them to stay alive longer or the virus just never died out

Super noticeable. It’s the exact reason why I have faith in 28 Years Later just bc Danny Boyle and Alex Garland have returned.
The rest of the movie is definitely of a 2/5 quality, which is a shame since the setup is so well done.
The only one that can live up to that intro is Dawn of the Dead 2004

Not the tunnels, it's eluded that the son bit the sister and the pilot. I blame the military. Mom is a carrier of the disease, why wasn't she kept isolated and under 24/he watch??!! Also having folks come back w/o checking every house is insane to me.
I agree. The kids, especially the sister, are to blame for the virus spreading to Europe. Though I understand why she didn't want to expose that her brother was bitten since he was her only family left alive. I bet she regret it.
I don't think he bit the other two but I do think he became a carrier like his mother and spread it.
We will probably know in the summer when 28 years later gets released
Definitely not the tunnel, it would have been collapsed at the first infection. Also, the tunnel is too far away for the infected to get to. In my opinion, the boy took longer to turn but turn he did and infected the pilot and his sister and landed in France, infecting the population.
@@markcarpenter6020 I agree. I don't think he bit anyone, but was a carrier so was still a risk of infecting others. Simply because he had the same mutation as his mother, made him a carrier but immune to the rage.
This intro is definitely one of the best intros to a horror movie. It's a goddamn masterclass.
No. If Don had not broken quarantine, he would have found out his wife was a carrier.

The kids caused all of it. If they didn’t break the rules the mother wouldn’t have been brought back. Most likely the mother would have starved to death since the husband stated the house was lost and he was the only survivor.

The real person to blame is the dad for breaking quarantine and kissing the wife. Since that's what he did, he would have done it anyway, even if she'd been found later.
I'm so glad she didn't get mad at you for debating that what Don did was necessary.

@@Twibook03 Should we also remember they were in the US and packing a ton of guns? lol.

The underground parking garage and directly after are still some of the gnarliest scenes I've ever seen
Something wild, is during the scene with the people trapped in the underground area is very similar to the scene that the guy described in 28 Days Later.
The one where he described climbing over people and not knowing which were infected are not.

Oh wow I never noticed this but will see it so differently next watch!
If there's anyone to blame it's the military. An immune survivor comes along and you don't keep her (and family) under 24/7 surveillance/lockdown?? At least revoke the husband's credentials man
Also making the civilians shelter all in one place is an insane strategy for the situation.

7:13 Dom did the smart thing his wife did not =)
@@sebastianemond5313 fully agreed sir !

I really liked this one more than the first one for some reason. I also thought it was cool how they managed to show an outbreak scenario but in a sequel. the film could've at least have had the meeting between the husband and the wife be supervised by some soldiers. one way i imagined it: he has to argue with them to be allowed to see her (he's desperate to right his wrong and apologise to her). his request initially meets resistance, but they eventually give in, however they say he must be supervised during the visit. he gets into an emotional apology/monologue to his wife. the soldiers are standing back allowing this moment to happen (although they are still wary). the husband leans in for the kiss, and kisses his wife for a split second before the soldiers pull him back (only they know that she is infected, at this point). he gets infected super quickly, the shortness of the kiss emphasising how quickly the infection takes effect, and how dangerous it is. he gets a bite in on a soldier before they're able to shoot him. all hell breaks loose and we still get our outbreak/chaos kicked off. but without the dumb/incredulity causing sequence of the wife being UNGUARDED, UNSUPERVISED, and in an UNLOCKED room, in spite of them having enough suspicions around her infection status that they put her through that awful forced sanitation, and literally have her bound to the bed...
i cackle every time Denise does the side eye at the camera lol
We will continue to at least try to reply as much as possible haha ❤️
best opening in horror history without a doubt
this one one of my favorite zombie movie period.and the absolute cinema of the opening running scene holy.
Happy New Year Ari and Denise🎉🎉
Happy New Year! ❤️
For some cool side info,
The new movie that's coming out already has a sequel planned for a release in January 2026.
"28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple"
If I remember this correctly, one of the actors for 28 years later has confirmed that two movies have already been filmed, that being 28 years later and part 2 which is slated for a later release date.
I just can't with eyes. That killing of the wife is where I shut them and hold my ears. It's just too brutal.
After seeing what they did with a chopper in Terminator 2, I'm inclined to believe with a good enough pilot you could pull off that manouver. Lol
This movie needs to go back in theaters with a splash zone intergrated in, in preparation for the new movie coming out....imagine getting splashed with fake blood during the helicopter blades scene lmao
He made the right choice by leaving, it’s the only logical decision to make
Befriend the zombies? Talking logical? Maybe offering an alternative meat or even a cuppa? Even a cigarette might help!
This sequel isn't praised enough. It was awesome seeing it in the theatre. I'm so glad you loved it!
I love how you guys called Don an “asshole” for leaving his wife but were also rooting for him to escape. 👏😂
To be fair, the kids snuck out and messed it up for everyone. Granted it being that easy to leave is a failure of the military.
same the kids were so dumb
One of the best opening sequences in film history
Can we talk about this opening scene, though? Brilliant.
Like bruh
7:01 “everything changed in a matter of seconds” is gold and perfect considering the theme is called “in the house in a heartbeat”
Just started watching, not sure if you have seen Children of Men, if not you would both love it, for so many reasons.
Anyway, back to watching you watch this..
Children of men is an outstanding movie!
@@alisonlouise6406 It really is and they will totally love the cinematography!
That opening sequence is probably my favourite out of any Zombie film. Always thrilling and terrifying! Love this sequel and I can't wait for the third one (FINALLY).
Not Zombies!!!!!!
@@JohnDAmico-ci2hz You know what I mean. :p
I'm sure Denise would save a random kid rather than escape together with her husband to be with their biological children who's waiting for them to come. You will never understand because you are not in his situation.
And that is precisely what we say at 12:30
This was such a huge let down from 28 days later. I did not like this one bit. Hopefully 28 years brings back everything this one missed out on. Thanks guys for the great reaction love ya
yeah this one felt very soulless lol 28 days later had guts.
Thanks
I remember my wife giving me the side eye the first time we saw this movie. I had to reassure her I would never leave her during the zombie apocalypse 😂😂😂
lol 😆
Haha! You gotta be a Jim not a Don ❤️😂
Did you side eye her back to make sure she doesn't make suicidal decisions that would get you both killed?
Yeah dont leave her if she is smart, leave her if she is like in the movie
And all that while thinking "I'm totally closing the door you if you become a liability"
Adding it to the list! Thank you for the recommendation 😁
@OfficialMediaKnights I hope you like it ♥️
Yeah he is one of the best war movie of all time@@OfficialMediaKnights
