    I noticed when I feed fruit or a vegitable that has a high sugar content it goes fast and I have to go back and feed earlier. It's like our worms are like kids they want more sweets. LOL 😄 Thanks for the update. Hope your feeling better. 👍

    Hi, Sheila here in the UK, enjoying your videos and learning a lot. Is a muddy environment bad for the worms?

    • @TheCrazyWormLady

      Sheila Smith as long as there is no standing liquid it’s fine I just prefer mine a bit flakier for harvesting purposes.

    Eight bananas to each bin, and they are all gone? Impressive to say the least! Do you keep written records of all of your bins (how much food per feeding, amount of added bedding, bedding temperature, etc.)?

    Please make a video for feeding carbon and nitrogen ratio and list of green items and list of brown items to understand us easier.
    How can we prevent heat to our worm bin after adding carbon /nitrogen combination reaction.

    Hey Emily...Have a question for you. In my first batch (about a quart) of castings taken over 2-1/2 months ago I did many cup migrations and since about 2 weeks no new babies. BUT when I carefully checked I found loads and loads of eggs...yellowish color. Since I've had nothing but tiny worms over that entire time I'm wondering if the eggs getting dry go dormant? I picked out about 50 to put back in my regular bin. Thanks

  • @ausfoodgarden
    @ausfoodgarden 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Wow they are certainly plowing through the feeds now.
    What temperature is your worm area usually?
    Mine are all outside and last night was about 36F and even today it's only 48F I'm wearing a jacket indoors :)
    The small outdoor worm cafe is progressing slowly as the temps are so low. The bigger bins seem to retain heat so they do fine.
    I'll be bringing the tote that now contains the worm cafe bottom bin contents into the office to try and speed up the harvesting.
    That room never drops below 60F so I'm hoping it will help.
    Oh and first! :)

    • @TheCrazyWormLady
      @TheCrazyWormLady  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gerry Clough mine are indoors so they stay around 70-75F. Outdoors mine get as low as freezing and as high as 110.

    Hi Emily, is the sand digested by the worms? What other function does the sand serve. Love all your videos.

    • @RaymondPeter
      @RaymondPeter 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The small particles of sand/eggshell are used like the "grit" in a bird's gizzard. They help the worms digest their food.

      @@RaymondPeter Hi Raymond, are there any other affects using sand? And does it affect the castings over time.

    • @RaymondPeter
      @RaymondPeter 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe that this is part of this experiment. To see the effects vs eggshell.

    • @TheCrazyWormLady
      @TheCrazyWormLady  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Christopher White sand doesn’t get processed it just is part of the finished castings. We will see if it has an impact in correlation to the eggshell which is said to be better due to calcium which helps the worms with cocoon production (in theory)

    I have now watched 7 of your videos and thank you so much for rounding out my education for taking care of my worms. The upshot is that I no longer stress about killing yet another batch...I've got about 4 batches dead under my belt. In other words, I feel confident. Btw, mine are fat and happy. Checked 2 days ago and there was even a ball! I have a pot from last summer of dead parsley--I broke 2 handfulls off and crushed it for "grit". Will add some bedding today-shredded newspaper.

    I think they are doing really well and very active. Is it normal for them to eat the banana peels that fast? I have not set up my bins yet sense we are only in temp housing and was not sure how they would take being moved when we sell our flip house. But Cannot wait to start one. Love watching your Video's and @ Grant McIntosh I learn a lot from the 2 of you and Others.

      I use a fly trap. Put a lemon or orange slice in a little cup inside a ziplock bag. Punch little holes on the bag at the top. the flies get in following the smell but are too dumb to get out. Squish the bugs while they are still in the bag. It helps

I have red wrigglers on my covered patio, but with all my cOnFuSiOn, I honestly don't know what is right or wrong, help please? What type of sand is best & do I put the sand in my soil or just where the R.W. are eating please? Or should I just stick to using organic eggshells or oyster shells grounded up please?
