I got some free coffee from Starbucks and I left it outside for awhile. I didn't do anything to the bags of coffee. Some of the bags were setting in an old metal trough that wasn't that tall. The bags broke down leaving sandy dirt. The other bags were laying on ground. Over time I didn't do anything to my coffee or bags. When I got around to moving the bags/ coffee I notices there was natural worm from my yard. Some of the coffee was broken down while some coffee was half broken down. Some bags were wet inside while the trough with coffee was dry. I let nature work on the bags of coffee and the water from me watering my flowers/ tomatoes got on the coffee. I compost the coffee alone with the worm that living in coffee. That goes to show you that worm do fine with coffee as long as you worm can run away if need be.

Love your experiments and admire your dedication. Enables inexperienced people like myself to refrain from making mistakes. I have noticed other channels trying to Emilate your work.

Thank you for sharing! I get 20 lb of coffee grinds from work every week but I've been mixing it with my normal compost so I'm going to try a worm bin only with my coffee grinds.

Both the bin and the worms look great. I guess the extra caffeine makes them even faster. 😁

Hi Emily we’re loving your posts! I’m currently working with a nice worm bin that was gifted to us & sits in a shady spot outside the apartment. We’re so excited about it! I made a rookie mistake a couple of weeks ago & overfed on 1 side. Got condensation. Been airing it out, will add bedding. Do you think adding my coffee grounds could actually help with the moisture? Will turn the bin as well. I was wondering what is in your dry mix & how to make powdered egg shells (we’ve been saving them!) Thanks & keep up the great work 🌞👍🏼

Coffee certainly wouldn't hurt I don't think. As long as its not over-feeding by adding it. My dry mix ingredients are listed in the description below all of my videos. Its roughly equal parts of each. Egg shells can be ground up in a spice grinder, coffee grinder or even blender.

Hi Emily I mix the coffee in with the food waste & wet it all down at once, there is not coffee left I have found, I fed pure coffee once & there were balls of coffee left.

Christopher White yes coffee tends to clump and dry up. Part of the difficulty with it.

Aloha! Does the coffee count as a grit source for the worms?

Skunk E Bud no. I thought it did for a long time but apparently it isn’t. I hear some people still vehemently say it does though. Maybe a future experiment...
