  • Exploring abandoned places is my hobby and finance it all out of my own pocket and the donations I get from the people who love watching the documentaries we make... A small donation would be greatly appreciated! ► / brosofdecay
The house got abandoned around 2 decades ago. Edward used to live here together with his wife and children. For the first time ever we take you to the country of Switzerland, a country that is landlocked in the middle of Europe, countless stories reside within its borders, and over the next coming weeks, we are going to document a small fraction of them. We start off with the story of Mister Edward and his family, they started living inside this house just after the Second World War ended in Europe. Edward and his wife were madly in love and decided to raise a family and make countless memories inside the walls of the house. Life went by seemingly quickly, the children grew up, went to study and move out, this left Edward and his wife alone again to enjoy their well-deserved retirement,
But unfortunately for Edward things turned south, his wife got sick and passed away early, this left him in deep grief and he had to live out the last years of his life on his own.
Today we will tell the story of Edward and take you on a tour throughout his Wonderfull mansion, get ready for an intriguing adventure.

A lot has changed after I explored this place two years ago. It was mysteriously tidied up, either by some explorers or by the current owner, which is an arabic man. However, the furniture in the living room used to be all over the place, it was a bit cramped, but not because of vandalism. It was actually abandoned like that. The house, as you see it in this video has been like that since it was tidied up by someone last year.
You said Edward was a military man. I must tell you that in Switzerland every citizen must attend military service for a while so you'll find military equipment in pretty much any house here, regardless if they are actually a military person or not. It's something many foreign explorers said when they came to my country to explore untouched places. They often found uniforms and many other military things. It's normal to find basic prepping items in most households here in Switzerland. I always recognize the same items in every abandoned house in my country. It's just a part of the vibe of abandoned places in Switzerland.
You also asked about that door in the basement. Doors with wooden patterns like these are very common for storage rooms in basements in Switzerland, from my experience they were mostly integrated into unused private fallout shelters in the 1960s. (almost every house in Switzerland has a fallout shelter)
These stoves in the living rooms are the most common thing ever here in Switzerland, I've seen a dozen of them in abandoned houses. People love to put things onto them, the steps were also used to sit on them if you need to get warm. They always have the building date on them, that's useful for us explorers.
Looking forward to explore together with you in Switzerland next time!

Interesting. Thank you for the input as I was so impressed by the fact that it appeared abandoned houses in Switzerland are extremely immaculate. I loved catching glimpses of the Delft pottery. The valuable Delft pottery. I have a few pieces but not the very valuable pieces I look to collect. Just a stunning place. Here in the USA this place would have been trashed for sure. Graffiti would have been all over the place. I love the blue and white which seems to be predominate colors in your country. Interesting to be taken on these journey's without ever leaving your house now. Thank you and thank you to Lesley who brings us with him wherever he goes.

Have recently been watching various explorers.....have to say-- you are the best in my eyes. You have such a calm, peaceful respectful manner. You take time and care as you discuss the interesting pieces you come across. You articulate so well...
    I'm so impressed....
My only problem is that your voice is so soothing, it has lulled me to sleep on occasion so I end up having to watch an episode twice [I'm not ~really~ complaining though😉]

This has to be one of my favorite episodes. I'm pleasantly surprised to see almost no decay compared to others that have been abandoned for just as long (20 years). The houses in Switzerland must be very well made. Looks like all it needs is a little dusting and cleaning and you can move right in! Couldn't help but notice the double pane windows with the big gap in between. Certainly that must also help perserve the home. And I also wonder about the atmospheric conditions in that area that also contributes to the preservation. Cool discovery!

One of the items you called a stamp press is in fact a ink blotter. These were used for nib and ink writing, you rolled them over the fresh ink writing to stop it ‘bleeding’ on the page. Thank you for your great commentary and for sharing what you see. All the best.

28:38 This is a humidifier. Inside is a felt mat and water was poured into the lower right half and the felt soaked up the water. Then you hung it on a heating radiator or, as in this case, on an oven wall. The medals are for good performance in the 300-meter military rifle, which conscripts have to complete once a year. The obligatory is compulsory for members of the army and the field shooting is optional - the second is a kind of folk festival for men with new and old Swiss military rifles. Both go over 300 meters and have requirements such as single shot and fast firing at two different targets. 31:32 Muuhahahaha, this thing is not to seal envelopes, but to dry the ink on a freshly written letter.

If it is possible to do so, occasionally show the tools that you happen to see in these homes you are able to explore. In this home you passed by a small toolbox full of tools. Tools are very historic and help tell the story of the people that once lived there. I would be interested in all of the older hand tools and even there makers/brand.

Wish we knew the history of these places....
Possibly no other relatives to take it over, taxes owed to high , the antiques are a small fortune but included in sale of the house making it almost to expensive to purchase so it belongs to the state like they would do here in the states.....who could afford to purchase this most likely wouldn't want it.... between the asking price and what it would cost to restore it just wouldn't be worth it to them.

That's not an "envelope press" on the desk. It's a rocker blotter, with a piece of blotting paper on it. J. Hérbin still makes small rocker blotters. I have one, because I write with antique fountain pens.
Things written with liquid ink take a bit of time to dry. To make them dry instantly, you can press the blotter on them, to absorb the excess ink.

What a great find, the wood accents were very exceptional from the cedar? Built in cabinets to the trim all over the house. I was surprised that the master bedroom was so clean after all these years , the still made bed and white bedspread. The wallpaper was charming. I enjoyed that it appeared that the gentleman still did his own dishes, kept fine cordial type drinks for entertaining and even washed the ash tray, such tidiness. The upstairs living room looked very comfortable in a by gone era way, it all was very charming, thank you for sharing.

The place behind the bed is NOT to put wood in it but place a bed warmer in it for example stones to heat up.

It could be where they stored smoked meat and fish after it was smoked somewhere else! But I bet there’s not too many flys! I call them my fly catchers! You wouldn’t if you came home after curfew and was trying to sneak up to bed. It’s a meat grinder or any other food grinder depending on what blade was on there. Didn’t they have a toilet 🚽 in the bathroom. He could have had a compost toilet if he was there until 2002?

Questa casa non sembra abbandonata....in Italia le case in cui non vive più nessuno sono sempre in disordine. In questa stanza sembrerebbe che il proprietario possa rientrare da un momento all'altro

I find it interesting that there are no cob webs upstairs. The painted walls are still shiny too. Really intriguing.

A beautiful place with many precious memories! The stoves and furniture look really interesting! Those abandoned paintings in the attic are such a sad sight!!
Thank you for this nice exploration!

Lovely old home. I feel the sadness there of when he was there alone and I've also feel the warmth of when they were together there' it's a lovely place' it's quaint. They must have had a nice time living there. RM thank you for showing it to us it was very nice.

He lived a very good and long life. I hope he was happy in his simple life. Was there any children and where are they today ? I guess we will never know. Keep up the great job you do finding homes for us to look at. Stay safe and i will be watching for you next week.

I still have a food grinder and we use it. Looks exactly the same. As usual, these homes leave a sinking feeling in my heart. A very lonely feeling. But I wouldn't miss any of them. Thank you

This was a great find. I was curious why the children of the parents did not take over the house? I also like that you always keep the location a secret. I can't wait until the next adventure.

O que me incomoda é pensar que nenhum parente próximo ou mesmo os filhos não querem saber da casa, nem das lembranças da família.

Absolutely loved this beautiful place Leslie!!! Sooo very nice & pristine!!! It makes me sooo very sad that the children of Edward didn’t take care of him, at the end of his life😞😢😰It breaks my heart ♥️ that they didn’t come back for the priceless air looms & memorabilia, such as pictures, his medals of honor, the antique wooden furniture, glassware, beautiful pewter candle sticks & sooo very many other cherished memories…the artwork in the attic was probably priceless!!!😢😞😰 The structure, other than the roof, which needs reroofed, looked to be in reasonably good shape 👍 Sad that it can’t be bought, if not moved into by family members & be loved once again!!!❤️ The authentic wooden wall paneling, doors & windows…were absolutely gorgeous!!! Thank you for sharing this wonderful adventure with us Leslie! I truly loved it ❤️❤️❤️

Your respect and reverence for the memory of Edward come through clearly. I don't think he would mind you exploring his home.
