    STORY
Today, we embark on a captivating journey to the serene French countryside, where we step foot inside a remarkable historic house that stands as a symbol of bravery and love.
This awe-inspiring house was once the cherished abode of Colonel Lionel and his beloved wife, Antoinette. Having earned the esteemed rank of Colonel through his exceptional service in the Second World War, Lionel and Antoinette chose this house as their haven. Lionel's strategic brilliance and unwavering courage are believed to have saved countless French soldiers, leading his troops to triumph during perilous times.
For many years, Colonel Lionel resided within the walls of this magnificent house, until his passing in 2008. Although his noble children inherited the estate, their interest gradually waned over time.
Antoinette, Lionel's loving wife, had already departed from this world in 1998 after bravely battling terminal cancer. Yet, the house retains the essence of their lives, resonating with the joy and love that once permeated its every corner.
Join us as we embark on an exploration of the rich history concealed within this grand mansion. Together, we will uncover the extraordinary life of a courageous man and unravel the captivating story of a family's past. Let us be captivated by the echoes of bravery and love that still reverberate through this timeless dwelling.

What a beautiful place! But it always baffles me as to why children leave valuable possessions behind. I mean I understand not wanting to take beds, dresses and lamps. But why leave photos and paintings…I would never desert something so important 😢

Black mold. You take anything out of this house, you take the black mold with you. Then your family gets sick. An your lesson is, leave it be.

@@melje6740 they could have taken the family photos way before the black mold appeared…not a valid reason

It is sad. Young people don't realize the value of memories until they get older themselves. I would never throw away or leave old photos and pieces of art work even if they had no monetary worth. They are a part of your life, your family and friends and more importantly your ancestors. They need to be labeled and passed down. But like I said the interest doesn't come early in life usually. I loved hearing the stories of my ancestors, if I could get my family to talk. My father's side of the family was so poor and so hard that they really didn't want to talk about it. My mom was better at telling me about her side of the family though.

This is a beautiful grand mansion. It’s left with beautiful memories and furnishings to gather dust and decay. It’s always sad to see that they just seem to vanish from their loved ones. Leslie, you always show such great respect to the homes and the people that resided in them. You bring us to the very time they were living there. Your presentation’s are always wonderful. ❤

Beautiful tour Lesley!! The house was beautiful. It makes me so sad to think that it’s still savable and no one seems to be interested in saving it. If it’s got that much moisture coming in it won’t be long till it’s all moldy. Really well done. Thank you. 💜🫶😎🤗🇺🇸

Wow what a beautiful home, and making me extremely curious, that guy in the photograph looks similar to my grandpa on my dad's side of the family, I'm french on his side but I only know the ones who immigrated from France, there's only a couple of relatives who know some of my cousins etc in France and I think it's time to start figuring out more of my family, I think it would be awesome if I have a family connection to this house ❤❤❤❤❤❤

The newspaper "La Voix du Nord" was created by french resistance fighters during the Second World War. In particular by a great uncle who was shot by the Germans at the beginning of 1945. He has streets named in the city of La Bassée (North of France) and even a statue near the station in this town. His name was Maurice BOUCHERY. My grandparents were also resistance fighters, my grandfather was Polish consul in the city of Lille and organized and recruited among the Polish of France for his resistance network POWN. He was naturalized French after the war. I am 55 and I'm proud to have the same name SZCZESNY.

I have a question: who is paying the taxes on these empty properties? Here is the USA property taxes need to be paid whether someone is living there or not, I assumed it is similar in other countries. Can someone advise me on this question?

Hey Lesley, Great explore video in that abandoned French mansion of a colonel, which I enjoyed watching very much. - This location
has a very special atmosphere, and it was very exciting following you through the rooms of that mansion. - There were still so many
interesting and beautiful antique items visible, and you always have such a good eye for details. - Some of the rooms were real
time capsules, - completely frozen in time. Amazing to see!
Stay safe, peace and kindest regards.

I love the sentimentality of this video which suits this wonderful place and the dry tears formed from water marks on the windows. The bathroom looks too clean. Maybe somebody cleaned it recently. Those VHS tapes feel like yesterday to me but the 1979 newspaper was published five years before I was born in Brugge. I also had a phone like that in 2001. I notice one of the newspapers has a photo and headlines mentioning the word music near the musical pieces. Maybe the family had a well known connection to music. The wheeled wheelchair is interesting. Maybe that is what inspired the invention of wheelchairs. There was a blue version of that red lampshade in the my home in the 1980's. I also notice a bottle cologne 471. I also purchased one recently to reminiscent my childhood memories. I am also considering purchasing Denim aftershave.

I could not imagion , disrespecting my parents by leaving their much lived home and petsonal items to rot away. So very sad. Lots of people are not a fortunate to have such a beautiful home, and than to cateless what happens to all their personal items togo to waste. Sad. If my parents had something like that i would for sure save and do what i could do to keep it....Dont be angry if someone comes in and removes item , i hope to love & cherish like they shoukd have been .sone kuds are jyst ungrateful.

Great video. The Colonel was a veteran of WWII and was probably born between 1916 and 1920 to 1925.. My father was a WWII veteran. I was born in 1948 and I am now 75 years old. So his children are around my age, in their late 70's. Just as a time perspective, here. So in 2006 he would have been well into his 90's, close to 100 years old.

There is a simple elegance here that is welcoming. It is designed on a human scale. An ordinary person can feel welcome here. I admire this so much more that the opulent, extravagant, ostentatious manors designed to diminish the visitor and overwhelm the individual. I suppose that is why the owners of palaces needed to wear huge clothing and tall wigs and hairstyles so they did not look insignificant in their own flamboyant surroundings.

That thing that you called a wine bottle opener is an egg opener to cut the top of the boiled egg off 😉

I don't know if I missed you saying why it's abandoned. They had children, correct? I will have to watch again to see why it has not been claimed.

I trully enjoy your explorations Leslie and how you present the findings to us. I did notice that you urgently need a new pair of gloves ! 😄 Perhaps you could get a sponsor for that .... 👍
Btw I googled something ... The name Leslie (Scottish Gaelic origin) has a beautiful meaning and very unique denoting a garden of holly bushes.
