I was yelling at the video as he pulled it out without a string. :). I also tied braided fishing line to the small green snap before pushing it through. Pulled the new one through the same hole and it snapped right in.
You can't do it. The wire coming from the mirror is hard wired into the mirror. There would be no way to pull it through since you'd have the mirror attached.
I just bought my GTI MK7, and will be buying my products from you folks just because you put these diy videos up, super helpful and I definitely appreciate it.
Save your self a lot of time, when you remove the older mirror and wiring. Tape some string to the old wiring. Then retape to the new mirror wiring and pull and feed it though. So much easier.
great video, I have 2015 golf tdi and used this video for the passenger side replacement of the mirror assembly without the folding option. T27 bit used, worked for me and some helpful tips below as commented by others. I should have watched full video first as my panel did not sit properly because 2 panel clips stayed on door and missed when putting them back on. Again watch the whole video first... Thanks DAP
Great vid coming from a tech stand point. I like how you use almost all the proper tools. Customers always think that tools are free or something and dont understand the enormous personal cost. You should make up some DAP pocket screw drivers and bone tools! Can never have too many pocket screw drivers. One point i can improve on is using a piece of string to attach to the harness before pulling it out, so you can tie the pulled end back through the correct path after reattaching it to the new harness.
Thanks for doing a detailed instruction Paul., was looking to do this install for a while. Good to know that they also offer the European version for this. Always thought that installing a folding mirror will lose the blind-spot monitor functionality. You could have also mentioned about the door controller module, since some of the lower end controllers do not support this electrically. I believe some vendors like USP Motorsports and Ali express offer the controllers as a part of their kits.
probably should have attached soft twine or your grabber tool before you removed the original harness. Then it will be threaded as you pulled it out. Simply attach it to the new harness, and pull through. There is a body tool that has a forked end and is very useful in preventing door clip loss or damage.
Thanks for the great quality of your videos. I was actually searching for a tutorial on how to replace a faulty electric window switch assembly & your video will certainly help me when taking my door panel off...it looks really painful , i hope I don't break anything lol.
Thanks , I managed to remove the door panel without too much drama by simply following your instructions. I also managed to repair the faulty drivers window switch & re-assembled everything again. It's working 100% now & saved myself the cost of a complete switch assembly & the labour cost to get someone to replace it. Thanks again , I couldn't have done it without watching this video.
These work fine on the GTI and Golf R, but one thing I heard is that the standard Golf has different modules and those need to swapped out as well. I tried to help someone install these mirrors on the Golf and we couldn't get the power folding feature to work, so I told him about the modules a few days ago and he ordered them. I'll post an update here if that ends up fixing the problem.
My sister managed to smash up her mirror whilst parking, this video is a great guide for when i replace it. I've worked a lot on older cars but nothing this new. Can i get away with not disconnecting the battery? I know it throws up a load of codes when you reconnect it. Can i just pull the relavant fuse to cut power to the mirror whilst i install? Cheers
excellent video, great quality. I like the idea of fold in mirrors but all that effort to make it automatic when it only takes a few seconds to manually push in your mirror as you exit the vehicle. Still a great video and I enjoyed watching it, but as far as modifications go this one is pretty far down on my priority list.
its not about pushing them in on your own, its a cool upgrade thats expensive for those paying to have this done, less expensive for those who are capable to DIY ! I wish Vw gave there customers the option before delivery, it probably would of costed 100-150$ more, i would like to do it to my 17R ! i dont know when but soon, the LED tail lights for me was a must because any of the golf's share the same reg tail lights in north America
nicolas Boukas It is a cool upgrade but I just feel that there are a few other upgrades meet the same criteria while also providing more utility (in my opinion). for example, DIY back up sensors, DIY back up camera, DIY fog lights , side cameras (if that is something that can be done this way), halogen lights on cars that don't have that as an option, etc.
@@xabhax back up sensors can see well beyond what you fan see by "simply turning your head". My stock Ram sits so high that I cant see things like my retaining walls when im backing up my driveway. The hood is so long and tall that I cant see the retaining walls when Im pulling in either but you know what can? Some cheap sensors in the front and back bumpers. There are absolutely varying degrees of usefulness to new tech. I would absolutely take back up sensors or a good back up camera over folding mirrors
@@xabhax amazing that you know the exact height of my retaining walls, which are too short to clear the rear bumper so unless you can see through metal takes more than slightly turning your head. They also dont clear the front bumper so unless you're 12 feet tall and have your head sticking through the sun roof that doesnt exist you cant see the distance to to the front bumper either
Hi, nice video!!! Which door control module do you have on your GTI? it is the same door control module from a TSI Highline?. I have a TSI (comfortline) and I want to know if installing new power folding mirrors, my door control modules will work or not...
Good tutorial. Is it the same process for mk6 golf? And the module is it able to work with the new folding option? There is no need to chage the module or the harness? Thank you!
Nice video...I have a question about mirror caps....are the mirror caps for mirrors with signals and without signals the same size? I want to swap my caps to black, but I need to make sure they aren't specified for with or without signals.
Question. We’re windows on the car previously powered or manual?. I just bought a work truck it’s 2022 but it’s the base model and it doesn’t have powered mirrors and was wondering if it’s possible to upgrade to powered mirrors and Install a switch
Hello, I'll do this in my own car, the video is very revealing. but my problem is that I have to change the door control module as well. After this change, do I need to redo all the previous codings for the module? Otherwise, is it enough to just do the coding with the folding mirror?
Should I get a diverter valve or a blow off valve? Which is better for the vehicle? I heard that bov are not very good for the car but I dont really understand why...
just one tip: You can have a wire came with the old mirror wire when you took off the old mirror, then you should already have the one wire to connect to the new one then pull out from the bottom.
please I need your help, after placing and coding the mirrors the passenger side mirror folds correctly. To fold it I make a long press on the remote control when closing the car or I select the folding of the mirrors on the driver's door knob. But the mirror on the driver's side does not fold and I don't know what else I can do... The rest of the functions of the mirrors work correctly. Please help me, thanks.
I could understand that ! I ordered my R with everything this car has to offer here in North America ! What I wish I had was the LED Rear tail lights that I ordered as we speak, the electric folding mirrors, and the brushed aluminum ext mirror caps, anyway what can we do, thank you
Wait I need to get a new “wire harness”? Or can I just use existing one?? Cause I think the ones I’m gonna orde just has the mirirors... says nothing about a wire harness
I think it all washes out in the end. In Europe you see a lot of cheap small diesels in otherwise nice cars where the US get high horsepower applications that obviously cost more to manufacture. Also, a lot of EU regulations require items that the US doesn't. (rear fog light, auto start/stop, aspherical mirrors, etc.) What I've always been curious of is the additional cost to manufacture two of the same thing.. I think that's where most money is lost. It would make more financial sense to have one product that is usable globally.
Jimmy A it also doesnt have the better tail lights as well as the R not having a center console or sun roof claiming "customs wont allow it" which is a load of shit because every other european car has it, also, mark 8 comes out in 2018..... Wont see it here until 2020
nope you need the module and two rear radar detectors that go behind the bumper. and possible access to online coding from volkswagen. not an easy project
Very nice install. One that I will be doing in the future, after I do my rear led light harness install and coding. But one question ... how about those door control modules? I read that "S" model Golfs will need to replace them because they will not except coding for folding mirrors.
Is it normal for the screws that hold the housing in place to strip the paint? Or is that the result of intalling and removing them multiple times for your videos? I'm a little worried about corrosion over time in that area.
This video for those people who experienced playing around their cars is totally not a problem for them to install power folding mirrors.... for me, honestly I dont think I can do. Does it work for scirocco ?
Haha. Everything seems to "pop" out/in.
Is it plug and play on the old mk5s?
Uh no
Taking the door panel off was seriously the scariest thing I've ever done.... feels like things will break haha
How i understand if my modules work with folding mirrors or not?
I really wish I could do this to my nissan altima 2009... but I cannot find anyone who does this type of job.😖😭
I don't have DAP on my mk7 gti
But i ordered the oem ones with DAP is it going to be a problem for coding?
so is this car yours?
for now yes
I want to sell my OEM standard MK7 tail lights anybody know how much they cost and where to sell them?
Nawaf Saaty good luck. Almost no one wants them unless they are going back to stock and they threw out theirs. Try vortex or the mk7 private sales facebook group.
I really hated VW way of removing the mirror piece. Since the beginning it was like this.
I just push mine in when I leave the car

U talk too much man
why the point if a folding mirror again - one of the useless mods,
Daniel Mahwai not useless if you live in a city where you have to parallel park every single day.
Hello you have these folding set for 2014 gli?
